Cultural tourist routes enhance the identity of local communities and stimulate the traditional economic activities of any region. The present article aims to analyze the cultural tourist routes that were proposed in 2011 during the event “Tlemcen, capital of Islamic culture” in Algeria. Unfortunately, these routes were not realized. For this, a survey was carried out with civil servant representatives, who were active in 2011 in the Tourist and Cultural Administration of the city, using semi‑structured interviews and questionnaires for the design of these routes. The primary purpose is to highlight the main causes of the observed failure and to propose instead a protocol that guarantees the conception of any cultural tourist route. The findings allowed us to create a collaborative interactive map via Google My Maps which, in turn, facilitated the achievement of a collective consensus for the proposal for a cultural tourist route in the city of Tlemcen.

Based on two ethnographic studies carried out by Brazilian anthropologists, this article presents different strata of a game of representations forged in a French rural space where forms of symbolic valori‑ sation have been implemented that collaborate in the construction of French regional identities: the cheese heritage and farm tourism. Responding to the context of modernisation of agriculture which coexists with the policies of heritage in the rural landscape, the idealised representations of the French countryside are intended to obscure the reality of modern high‑yield agriculture to the effects of tourism.

Rural areas have gradually become sites for tourism ventures where local products are highlighted as one of the main attractions. The objective of this article was to examine the possibilities and limitations of connecting family farming and private business ventures in the shape of integrated rural tourism in the munici‑ pality of Piranguçu. Forty six interviews were carried out with family farmers and tourist entrepreneurs. These revealed a total lack of connection between these social actors. Entrepreneurs preferred to buy in supermarkets and farmers to sell to foreign markets. However, both showed interest in forming partnerships, although there is a need to build dialogue strategies to align the demand of enterprises and agricultural production, and ensure the commitment of the parties to maintain and expand the link. It is concluded that the context is promising to integrate the local family farmers’ expectations and maximise the tourist potential of the municipality

The tourism model was already showing signs of exhaustion even before the Covid‑19 pandemic, and new research paradigms are being sought to support a more ethical and responsible tourism. One pos‑ sible path seems to be Hospitality in Tourism, whose scientific production is scarce. A bibliometric study focusing on articles was conducted to systematize the knowledge produced and identify guidelines on Hospi‑ tality in Tourism Studies. Using Spell Check and Web of Science, two research samples were composed. The journals with the highest frequency were Hospitality Journal, Rosa dos Ventos and Hospitality & Society. In the temporal evolution of the keywords, references to hospitality research in tourism emerged, with a focus on overtourism, accessibility, gift‑giving, Airbnb, sharing economy, and emotional solidarity. It was possible to reinforce the trend of aligning hospitality in tourism with the social dimension of the economic dimension of sustainability.

Boutique hotels have been a trend in the tourism industry since the 80. These in Mexico tend to be establishments with few rooms (mipymes) and with excellent services. They are organisations that face fierce competition, so identifying what makes them different can create added value. A content analysis of interviews conducted with managers and frontline employees in boutique hotels in Querétaro was carried out to identify, from the perspective of the informants, what the competitive advantage of the boutique segment is. It was found that human, technological and organisational resources, as well as the aesthetic experience, personalised atten‑ tion and the possibility of the guest taking home a tangible object that reminds him of his stay in the hotel, are factors associated with the competitive advantage of this type of organisation.

Monitoring projects at Higher Education Institutions attempt to contribute toward a better teaching‑learning process in that they provide for academic cooperation. Through active methodologies, where the teacher is no more the instigator of the content centraliser, but rather the student, this is quite possible. The aim of the study was to analyse how the active methodologies proposed by the Project “Active Methodologies in Tourism and Hospitality Graduation Courses”, at the UFPB have been accepted by student teachers, that is, course monitors. A questionnaire was applied to 27 monitors, from June through July, 2020. The research collected the ratio between monitors and students, between monitors and the course, between self‑managing career students and monitoring in the student’s reality. The conclusion is that active method‑ ologies with more dynamic teaching‑learning processes give better results. From the monitors’ perspectives, they are stimulating teaching practices which put the learning process in the hands of the students.

Architectural heritage with cultural functions has a hierarchical role in cities as a testimony to history and a promoter of activities for both locals and tourists. Physical, sensory, intellectual and commu‑ nicational accessibility is a pending issue in most of the properties, particularly in the city of Mar del Plata. Given the need and the challenge of contributing to promoting equal access, use and enjoyment of these spaces, the potential that the incorporation and articulation of new technologies means is recognized. In this sense, a project is under development for the Victoria Ocampo Cultural Center, which takes as its main target the population with visual disabilities. To do this and through the work of an interdisciplinary team, this research‑action focuses on the contributions of 3D printing and augmented reality.

In developing countries, most of the time, tourism is characterised by an exogenous variable. Instead of reducing social issues, not only does this characteristic feature increase them but it also has negative repercussions on a cultural level and on the environment, with complete disregard for the key principles of sustainable development. Local communities are not usually able to interpret the potential for tourism development since they do not share common core needs with it. Consequently, the underlying needs of international tourism flows are neither interpreted nor understood. In this paper, the proposed strategy is community‑based tourism. Its core can be found in the integral mapping and management of every single component of Cape Verdean tourism that is given in the most interesting areas in terms of environment, landscape, and culture on the island. The development of identifying social and cultural traits plays a fundamental role when considering the balance between the tourist’s needs and expectations, and the needs of the host population.

The aim of this research is to ascertain the level of development of tourist resources and attrac‑ tions in General San Martín in the Argentinian province of Mendoza. To this end, an assessment of tourist resources using the variables of conservation and size was carried out together with an evaluation of the possibility of attractions being easily converted for tourism. Visitors’ opinions were also considered. The resources were then classified according to their development and/or promotion needs, and the degree of conversion required. Polarised qualifications were obtained on the assessment of these tourist resources: one half with a high score and the other low‑scoring. Regarding the level of development, it turned out that half of the resources were already developed, a third semi‑developed and a fifth underdeveloped. In addition, it was observed that the most valuable resources coincided with those set up by the State and with those most appreciated by visitors.

The purpose of military museums is to transmit a democratic culture of defence. The boom in cul‑ tural tourism, as well as the use of museums as tourist resources, may be an opportunity for the Ministry of Defence museums to increase their audiences. The purpose of this work is to establish possible links between military museums and tourism in order to see if these institutions could benefit in the future from such a relationship. The research focused on the Automobile Museum of Torrejón de Ardoz as a model for this type of institution, analysing its current situation with respect to the public and the possibilities that it might offer with adequate tourism management. The methodology was based on questionnaires, interviews and direct observation, and may be applicable to other small and medium‑sized museum institutions with low demand. Among the main conclusions we have reached, we would like to highlight that there are many improvements that should be introduced by this type of museum, if they are really interested in increasing the number and di‑ versity of visitors, opening up to tourism and thus transmitting an idea of a renewed present culture of defence.
