The management models of protected areas have sought to promote an integrated management of the various uses directed at conservation and maintenance of crucial environmental functions for their eco‑ systems and habitats. Among the most prominent trends, especially over the last few decades, tourism and leisure activities in protected and / or classified areas have placed “new” demands on these areas, especially for low‑carbon, low‑intensity activities such as nature and active tourism, where the tourists tend to be more environmentally‑friendly and aware. Considering that hiking trails and the practice of hiking are among the most popular and important activities in protected areas worldwide, the present research is aimed at identi‑ fying the typical profile of hikers visiting the PR1 GOI trail (Serra da Lousã, Portugal) and comparing it with the results obtained in other studies carried out within the framework of international scientific literature. The data obtained through a questionnaire survey applied by Cordeiro (2017) to hikers, allowed us to con‑ clude that the identified profile is in line with those described in other studies, with a homogeneous distribu‑ tion by gender, with ages between 18 and 35 and complete higher education, presenting contact with nature as the main reason for carrying out the trail, and carrying out the activity, predominantly, in groups. In sum‑ mary, the importance of knowing the profiles, practices and motivations of hikers is crucial for development agents (public and private) to adapt their strategies for action and planning of tourist activity accordingly.

This paper analyses how traditional Aztec dance has been structured as a result of tourism in Mexico City’s Historical Centre, based on the Theory of Structuration, as conceptualized formally by Bonfil Batalla. The categories of analysis were local and foreign cultural elements, resistance, alienation and innovation. The qualitative research was based on sociological ethnography. The results showed that tourism has caused structuring of traditional Aztec dance, transforming its cultural elements and dividing the dancers into two strands: the chimaleros (who commercialize and dramatize the dance for tourist consumption) and the traditional cultural groups (who resist the effects of tourism). Among other aspects, it is concluded that, regardless of their position, both have undergone adaptive innovation to remain inserted in tourism. It is reflected that trans -structuring is a natural process in society, but that tourism may generate a number of transformations in social practices.

The objective set is to analyze the comments of TripAdvisor users regarding urban travel spaces in the destinations of the cultural heritage of humanity in Brazil, under the bias of the concept of smart tour‑ ist destination. The methodological design is characterized by bibliographic, documentary, exploratory and descriptive research. All the online comments of five Brazilian cities on TripAdvisor were analyzed qualita‑ tively between the months of January to July 2017. The results show that users highlight aspects related to urban and tourist infrastructure, which are fundamental precepts for becoming a destination. smart tourist. In this way, public management, as responsible for the execution of public policies and tourist plans, must act directly in the improvement of the infrastructure of the historical heritage, allowing the tourist destina‑ tion to adapt to the concept of universal access

This article aims at analysing tourism during the Spanish Civil War. As soon as the war broke out, the country and existing tourism management clashed. In that context of interests, each of the opposing sides –republicans and nationals– were to carry out a series of tourist initiatives to the ends of propaganda. As a result of both efforts, a dual image of the country was received abroad. The historical and cultural heri‑ tage would play a key role in formulating the different tourism strategies during the war. However, with the advent of the Franco dictatorship, the General Directorate of Tourism opted for policies oriented toward the “new” tourist model: sun and sand. This research is aimed at offering an overview of the two separate initia‑ tives in order to better understand the subsequent impact on the history of Spanish tourism.

Viticulture landscapes combine nature and culture attracting tourists in search of new experi‑ ences. The present article aims to analyse the perception of the viticulture landscape of Serra Gaucha and how it influences the wine tourist experience. Furthermore, using the visitors’ observations, we attempt to identify the tangible and intangible elements that represent the Serra Gaucha landscape, relevant at‑ tractions to the wine tourism experiences and tthe awareness of the need for landscape preservation. For data generation we used an online survey built around 22 questions sent to the 210 tourists who visited a family winery located in the Historical Winery route in Bento Gonçalves, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with a final total of 52 participants. The city is part of a region known as Serra Gaucha, the main Brazilian wine tourism destination. The results showed the importance of tangible and intangible elements in the perception of the landscape by visitors, especially for the vineyards, the architecture of the wooden and stone houses, the local gastronomy and the wine tasting itself. Such elements immerse and involve the tourists, and contribute directly to the tourist experience. The main ways to register the moments were photos and videos, and wine purchases. Visitors recognised the need to preserve the landscape, a condition for the sustainability of this activity.

This study is part of a research project entitled “Leisure in Brazil”. The aim of this paper is to substantiate Brazilians perception with respect to elements that prevent them from experiencing certain leisure events, with responses analysed according to gender and income. The research was empirical procedure using survey techniques involving 2400 subjects aged 7 and over. This paper specifically discusses the variables relating to gender and income, and how these can influence access to leisure activities. It was identified that time and money were the two main constraints on leisure experiences mentioned by the subjects. We conclude that the existence of these barriers is directly related to the conditions of life in our society. Income and gender inequalities influence leisure experiences, giving pause for reflection on the inequalities of access to leisure as a social right.

Throughout history the relationship between Spanish ham and Salamanca has been strong and has left a rich legacy of both tangible and intangible heritage. The heritage left consists of a sustainable model of pasture land with holm oaks combined with traditional skills of producing ham and sausages. The aim of this study is to describe the tourism potential linked with the tangible and intangible culture as a result of both territorial management and the curing of hams and cold meat. The data collection is based on primary sources, such as fieldwork as well as secondary sources. The results are tabled and mapped. The re‑ sults show that Spanish ham is a valuable resource for gastronomic tourism with a varied offer of museums, visits to pasture lands (dehesas), manufacturing sites, tastings and fairs.

The rural areas in Italy are made up of small municipalities that despite being extensive in area are sparsely populated. These marginal areas are affected by problems such as rural exodus, loss of tradi‑ tions, abandonment of the territory, etc. Despite this, in these small centers there is a rich cultural and environmental heritage that can be exploited to create new socio‑economic opportunities through tourism. Among the main tools used to achieve these goals are cultural itineraries. This article aims at analysing the potential of routes for the sustainable development of rural areas through the Digital Atlas of the paths of Italy. The methodology is based on the theory of the original Italian government programme and an in‑depth analysis of the Santa Barbara route, in Sardinia. This work confirms that itineraries are useful for rural areas development, if there are unified rules and if the ICTs are implemented.

"Tourism in protected areas can have a variety of positive impacts, on the protected areas themselves, for the people, communities and economies that surround them, and for the tourists who visit them. In Portugal, nature is one of the strategic differentiating assets of national tourism. Of the Portuguese protected areas there is one that stands out: the Peneda‑Geres National Park (PGNP). The aim of this article is to understand the evolution of supply and demand in tourist terms in the PGNP. It was possible to observe that the territory has early sought to consolidate itself as a brand both nationally and internationally, being inserted in networks of high prestige, having also sought to know, study and classify the existing heritage in the territory, considered as tourist attractions. The PGNP continues to be a reference in terms of tourist demand, despite having registered a decrease during the pandemic period. "
