The travel to unknown places, in the “expanding margins” of the tourist system, arouses the interest of visitors. At the same time, it is considered an option for the diversification of destinations, attractions and tourist modalities. According to these trends, adventure tourism services have recently been developed in the Argentinean Puna. The article aims to analyse how these services participate in the processes of transforming this area into an emerging tourist destination. In order to do that, three dimensions are considered: a) the general conditions that enable the design of these services; b) the geographical and tourist imaginaries associated with Puna involved in the offered trips; y c) the negotiations established between adventure tourism entrepreneurs and other actors with presence and interests in the area.

In this article, we propose to analyse the role of tourism promotion in the social and political con‑ flict in the rural municipality of Sineu (Mallorca) between 2013 and 2014 with respect to the celebration of the festivities in honour of their patron saint. In this sense, we emphasize that the emergent festival of La Mucada proposed by young left‑wingers has meant a ritual and performative practice of de‑essentialization of the tourist “otherness” as defended by the right‑wing authorities. At the same time, the inclusive nature of the new festivity and local identity has facilitated tourist participation and integration into the process of political change. This shows that tourism plays a central role in local political conflicts, beyond strict dia‑ metrically opposed stances of for or against, and can be an element of symbolic power to be conquered by various different social and political actors.

The aim of this article is to analyse municipal tourism policy regarding the beach resource in Mar del Plata, during the last Argentinian military dictatorship (1976‑1983). To do so, a qualitative methodological approach has been carried out. Municipal and provincial legislation, official reports, and local and national press are used as sources. The transfer of the beaches from the province to the municipality in 1976 led to a change in the scope and form of their management in that they became an economic resource for the local government. In the context of the formulated tourism policy, organisational and regulatory instruments, plans and projects around the beach resource were designed and implemented. In particular, the aim was to generate a “distinctive” and “exclusive” seaside offer in the southern coastal strip with a market strategy that privileged economic interests over social ones and the private sphere over the State.

The proper management of a tourist territory includes among its key premises an understanding of how heritage resources are socially conceived. This is why the present text addresses the perception of these assets from both the heritage and the tourist sphere, emphasizing the methodological approach to study the meaning of these resources in the real everyday life of the communities. The study was applied in populations of the circuit “El alma de Don Vasco”, located in the region of Lake Patzcuaro, Mexico, through an open exploration with a mixed questionnaire, taking as a reference the representation of heritage resources in official tourist im‑ ages. As a result, it was possible to identify the perception of the inhabitants about the cultural elements that are shown as a tourist attraction; what they wish to show to the visitor or only preserve for their community and for their next generations; as well as the divergences with the vision of tourists and officials. This makes it possible to establish key elements for the management of cultural assets offered to tourism

Rural tourism goes beyond the number of tourists and income it generates, in Cuetzalan del Progreso with an indigenous population, Totonacos and Nahuas, exhibits exuberant vegetation and exotic fauna, preserving their way of life with coffee production activities, mystical celebrations and rituals with the dance of the quetzals and the flyers that mix pre‑Hispanic and Christian traditions. They expose their systems to the tourist, with expectations of improving their living conditions. Tourism is analyzed from the perception of the general population, the locals involved in tourism and from the tourist, with 96 interviews conducted during 2016 and 2018. The three groups perceive economic benefits and improvement in quality of life, (p>0.05). , perceive incipient losses in clothing, language and traditions (p>0.05). They express different perceptions regarding job creation, economic development, satisfaction with their People (p<0.05), and about the environment, values and customs (p<0.05).

This qualitative, interpretive study explores the experiences of Mexican women tourists traveling alone within a gendered framework that views women’s opportunities and constraints as socially situated, and places women’s lives as central to the tourism research agenda. Data were collected from 20 in‑depth interviews and a thematic analysis was used to compare and contrast the data. The results revealed two aspects, the first is that the experience of traveling alone allows women to improve their self‑perception, gain confidence and experience a sense of accomplishment; on the other hand, it was found that sexualized male attention and fear of insecurity is an important limitation to live an experience of freedom. When experienc‑ ing harassment by men in the destinations they visited, women behaved fearful of being attacked or abused, and this limited their use of the recreational space offered at the destination. However, these factors did not deter women from future solo travel plans.

Jesús María was founded thanks to the railway line that led to the unification of Córdoba with Tucumán (Argentina). However, the heritage linked to this work of engineering is perceived as wasted, fading into the local urban landscape despite being traversed by the roads. The non‑existence of passenger services and the use of cargo transport has led to neglect of the specific identity of this place. The need to define the existing social representation on the railway, by bibliographical, documentary and field surveys with qualitative and quantitative analyses, makes it possible to project and configure recreational‑tourist routes that recycle the existing heritage, while at the same time diversifying the tourism on offer, benefiting the quality of life of the host population while granting unique experiences to tourists who make use of their leisure time in the area under study.

Rural community‑based tourism thanks to Yucatán State incentives in Mexico is promoted in a homogeneous and indiscriminate manner throughout the territory without any acknowledgement of local differentiating characteristics. This study is na interdisciplinar analysis of the local expressions manifest in the organisation and functioning of three cooperatives located in the Cancun‑Riviera Maya hinterland. We found a constellation of three elements: the fajina or unpaid collective work; the apprenticeship in family participation in which everyone contributes to the extent they wish and in whatever takes their interest; and the distribution of benefits. This has generated a form of cooperativismo adapted to the local situation that contributes to its permanence in highly competitive conditions.

This article sets out to analyse the perceptions and attitudes of the managers of the wine and viticul‑ tural companies of the Guadalupe Valley (Mexico) regarding wine tourism activities, that has experienced steady growth in the northwest of the country wth the wine routes in Baja California. To this end, we used quantitative methods to construct and validate a measurement instrument to gauge levels of reliability based on three prem‑ ises: perceptions, attitudes and wine tourism activities. This was applied to a representative sample of 64 com‑ panies, using structural equations with partial least squares (PLS). As a result, it can be seen how managerial perceptions are competitively focused on perceived threats posed by new competitors and products, with attitudes centring on their client portfolio and employee productivity, and wine tourism activities of tastings and tours. Consequently, this research contributes to the scientific debate on the organisation and business management of the wine tourism sector, by highlighting the specific metrics of business competitiveness in SMEs.

The purpose, of this research project, is to investigate the perception that foreign citizens visiting Mongolia, and who engage in tourism related activities while in the country, have upon the conclusion of their trip. The study investigates issues pertaining to tourism, in particular, as well as the country, in general. The study was conducted in cooperation with a tour operator based in Ulaanbaatar, the nation’s capital. The methodology involved an electronically administered survey to individuals who used the services of the tour operator during the five‑year period from 2014‑2019. Research results indicate that there are many areas in which the nation excels, but there are also areas that need improvement. The primary contribution of this study is to enable Mongolian tourism authorities to increase the number of foreign tourists, who visit the landlocked nation, in a long‑term, sustainable manner.
