Abstract Treatment fidelity, including adherence and competence, is assessed during the implementation of evidence-based treatments to ensure that care is delivered as intended. Although fidelity monitoring is often resource-intensive, a relationship between fidelity and treatment outcomes has not been clearly demonstrated. Associations between observer-rated clinician fidelity and family treatment outcomes were investigated in a longitudinal sample of clinicians (n = 18) and parent-child dyads (n = 39) following a statewide implementation of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. Results indicated that neither adherence nor coaching competence predicted changes in treatment outcomes. Explanations for these findings, study limitations, and directions for future research are discussed.

Traumatic Stress as a Treatment Priority: Its Prevalence and Impact on Children’s Mental Health Services

Abstract This study examined the prevalence of traumatic stress in children’s community mental health settings and assessed the impact of traumatic stress on therapy. Data were collected as part of a randomized effectiveness trial examining a modular treatment. Participants included 140 youth (5–15 years). Multilevel regression analyses examined predictors of treatment dropout, client crises, practice delivery, and therapist deviations from treatment plans. Findings indicate that, despite a high prevalence of trauma and the impact of traumatic stress on treatment dropout, trauma is not often perceived by clients as a treatment priority and trauma characteristics do not predict therapist practice delivery.

cedures are detailed, with the goal of reaching unassisted eating. Exercise sessions and hospital schooling are addressed, along with outpatient follow-through using a day hospital phase, if necessary. Comorbidity of other psychiatric disorders, especially clinical depression, is detailed, followed by discussions of anxiety disorders, substance misuse, obesity, diabetes, and personality disorders. This is an excellent book and builds upon the also excellent CBT-E program developed for adults. The book is exceptionally detailed, concise, and well-illustrated with tables, graphs, and helpful therapist–patient dialogue. In any graduate psychology, social work, or psychiatric program in which treatment of eating disorders is part of the curriculum, this would be the “go-to” text, given its comprehensive nature and thoroughness as well as the fact that it is an empirically supported program. This book would be valuable reading for anyone wishing to learn more about the management of individuals with eating disorder and could also be a helpful review for those currently involved with this population. $30.00 is a remarkable value given the time and expertise that went into the development of this program and the provision of this text.

Abstract The present study used parent-report data to explore cross-cultural similarities and differences in tic severity and reactions to tics across 223 children with Tourette’s disorder (TD) from the United States, United Kingdom, and Netherlands/Norway. Psychometric properties of the TARS-PR and PTQ were also examined and results indicated that both measures may be suitable for assessing tic severity and the consequences of tics in these countries. No differences in parent-reported tic severity were found. However, parents of children with TD from the United Kingdom reported significantly more reactions to their child’s tics than parents from the United States and Netherlands/Norway.
