Maintenance of Ocular Health by Ayurveda 通过阿育吠陀维护眼部健康

There are five sense organs (Gyanendriya) in Ayurveda i.e., Eye, Ear, Nose, Tongue and Skin among them prime importance is given to eye. It says “Sarvendriyaanam Nayanam Pradhanam”. A faulty lifestyle has resulted in many eye disorders like Dry eye, Computer vision syndrome, Age related macular degeneration, Cataract, Diabetic retinopathy and many more which adversely effects quality of life. To avoid these lifestyle disorders, prevention of eye disorders and preservation of ocular health has become essential because good vision is necessary for social and intellectual development of humans. But unlikely the preventive aspects of eye health and diseases related to eye has not been given due importance in our day-to-day life. For preventing these eye disorders and for maintaining eye health much more has been described in Ayurvedic texts in the form of Dincharya (Daily regimen), Ritucharya, Sadvritta, Swasthavritta and Chakshyusya Rasayana. Many tested procedures like Anjana (Collyrium), Netraprakshalana (Eye wash), Snana (Bath), Padabhyanga (Foot massage with oil) are highly effective daily procedures for the prevention of eye disorders and maintenance of good eye health. Various Yogasana, Pranayama, Neti and Trataka are also considered beneficial for the eye health. The aim of this article is to spread awareness among society about the maintenance of eye health and prevention of eye disorders.

Understanding the treatment modalities of Pemphigus Vulgaris (Agnivisarpa) through the lens of Ayurveda - A Single Case Study 从阿育吠陀的视角了解大疱性类天疱疮(Agnivisarpa)的治疗方法--单个病例研究

Pemphigus is a disease that causes blisters and sore on the skin or mucous membrane. The blisters rupture easily, leaving open sores, which may ooze and become infected. Agnivisarpa can be compared to pemphigus vulgaris due to its resemblance in sign and symptoms. The disease needs early and proper treatment to prevent further morbidity and mortality. Being an autoimmune disorder physician generally use corticosteroids and immunosuppressive drugs here an attempt is made to study in detail about pemphigus vulgaris and its understanding though Ayurveda. A case report of 47year old male patient with clinical presentation of fluid filled blisters burning and pain along with hyperpigmentation received systemic medication in modern medicine without an adequate response. Samshodhan coupled with Samshamana medication are the cornerstones for Visarpa. Hence in this study, Virechana Karma once in a week for 2 month. After that Raktamokshana (After completion of 3 sitting of Virechana Karma) followed by 3 months of Samshamana medicine. At the conclusion of treatment, a skin lesion assessment was performed.

Supplementation of Amra Beej Majja Churna in Vitamin B12 Deficiency - A Case Study 在维生素 B12 缺乏症中补充 Amra Beej Majja Churna - 案例研究

B12 is an important vitamin needed by red blood cells for maturation and DNA synthesis of myelin- producing oligodendrocytes. It remarkably supports the regeneration of nerves after injury. B12 is also involved in Hcy metabolism, transmethylation processes, fatty acid and nucleic acid synthesis, energy production etc. The symptoms of its deficiency range from glossitis to severe demyelination of nervous tissue. Indian population, with largely vegetarian food habit, is prone to harbor Vitamin B12 deficiency. There’s a general belief that vegan diet is devoid of Vitamin B12 but a few recent researches have shown that the Amra Beej Majja can act as a cost effective food supplement not just for calcium, vitamin A and C but also for Vitamin B12. So, there’s a felt need to evaluate therapeutically, the acclaimed role of Amra Beej Majja Churna as a supplement in people with Vitamin B12 deficiency. This paper presents a clinical study on the administration of Amra Beej Majja Churna in a patient with vegan dietary habits having Vitamin B12 deficiency which was clinically verified with low serum levels of the same. She presented with symptoms like hair loss, fatigue, tingling sensation in lower limbs and pain in calf muscles. The study was conducted for 2 months after which blood tests revealed increased serum Vitamin B12 levels from 189pg/ml to 217pg/ml along with significant symptomatic relief especially in tingling sensation and hair loss.

Scientific applicability in day-to-day practice on Granthokta Garbhini Paricharya Granthokta Garbhini Paricharya 日常实践的科学适用性

Achievement of motherhood is the cherished desire of every woman, as fetus depends upon mother for its nourishment, so health of pregnant women is most important as motherhood represents the bearing capacity of fetus inside the womb and delivery in a healthy status. There are many physiological and psychological changes occur in different stages of pregnancy in which some of them may ends up in discomfort and trouble. Acharyas have described Masanumasika Garbhini Paricharya in classical texts of Ayurveda for pregnant women that help in the development of fetus, healthy growth of fetus and care to mother. Garbhini Paricharya is nothing but the care given to pregnant women mostly through Ahara and Vihara. It is the daily regimen one should have to follow in the most delicate days of their life. The nine monthly diets are singularly unique in Ayurveda. This Paricharya changes in accordance to the growth of fetus in the womb and at the same time ensures health of mother. One can find remnants of dietetics (Paricharya) with older women and midwives but detailed and comprehensive diet plan as Paricharya is being practiced only by Acharyas. The main intension of advising Garbhini Paricharya is Paripurnatya (providing growth to fetus and mother), Anupaghata (pregnancy without complications) and Sukhaprasava (for normal delivery and healthy progeny). In this paper we are giving a broad expanse of the month wise diet as Garbhini Paricharya which can be modified according to the season, age, place, and digestive fire of pregnant woman.

Ardita and its Ayurvedic Management - A True Story 阿迪塔及其阿育吠陀疗法--一个真实的故事

Ardita is a disease with functional disturbances affecting the Uthamanga (head) and stands close with the symptoms of Bell's palsy. It is narrated as one among the Asheeti Vata Vikaras. It is a condition that develops due to Vata and Kapha Dusti. The present case study was conducted with an objective to find out the effective Ayurvedic management in Bell’s palsy. This report is on a case study of a 29 years old male patient who approached to Kayachikitsa OPD presenting with symptoms of deviation of mouth towards on left side, unable to chew from right side, difficulty in complete closure of right eye, since 1 day. After relevant examinations and screening it was diagnosed as Bell's palsy. This disease though self-resolving some cases remain partially recovered and some may be left with major facial dysfunction. So, the patient was admitted in Sri Kalabyraveshwara Swamy Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital for 10 days and this condition was managed through Panchkarama & palliative treatment. The patient was treated with Mukhabhyanga, Panasa Patra Sweda for 10 days and Nasya Karma for 8 consecutive days. There was no side effect observed during and after the treatment. The patient got complete relief in all symptoms without any residual weakness or deformity within two weeks which is much early than the self-resolving period of 6 months.

Shalyatantra is one among the Astang Ayurveda, the branch of Shalyatantra refers to surgical and parasurgical procedures in Ayurveda. Dusthavrana (non healing ulcer) are a frequently encountered problem in present era produced commonly as a complication of trauma or pathologic insult and it causes long term agony to the patient. The issue of non-healing ulcers management with Ayurvedic remedy is one of the major areas of the research and has come under increased study. This is a case report of 40-year-old female, who had an episode of Dushtavrana (non healing ulcer) and presented to the outpatient department with complaints of severe pain, itching and ulcer over right ankle region. The first line of management for Dushtavrana is Shodhana. Kalka is the specific treatment for Dusthavrana which is mentioned under Shodhana and Ropana Kriya of Saptopakrama. Yavadi Kalka is one of the formulations mentioned in Dwivraniya Chikitsa Adhyaya. Yavadi Kalka is simple, very cost-effective procedure. In the present case, Yavadi Kalka after Jaloukavacharana has shown assuring results in the management of Dushtavrana.

Evaluation of efficacy of topical herbal analgesic Arthrella Ointment in Osteoarthritic Patients 骨关节炎患者外用草药止痛药 Arthrella 软膏的疗效评估

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic condition involving degradation of cartilage within the joints mostly found in Elderly population causing immense pain and disability in Patients, NSAIDs are the first line of drug in conventional medicine to manage pain. But it leads to Gastrointestinal, Cardiovascular, Renal and other systemic AEs. Arthrella Ointment being a Topical-Herbal ointment has no reported side effects and AEs. Thus, a safe treatment option to alleviate pain in OA Patients. In this Clinical study 87 Subjects with OA were divided in two groups, one was treated with Arthrella Ointment for 4 weeks and results were compared with Placebo Control Group. The result showed better WOMAC and VAS scores after 4 weeks along with statistically significant difference in the relief of pain in the two groups. This effect increased regularly over the whole study period. There were no adverse reactions attributed to the Arthrella ointment. Thus, it was concluded that Arthrella Ointment is effective in pain management Associated with OA without any AEs and Side Effects.

Generally, Tailas and Ghritas have been prepared by using Kalka (paste) and Drava Dravya (Swarasa or Kwatha). However, Malkangni Apamarga Kshara Tailam was prepared by using Apamarga Ksharodak (which is obtained after burning, dissolving in water and filtration of the Apamarga Panchang) and Malkangni seeds oil (oil extraction is done by crushing the Malkangni seeds in an electric fitted crusher).

The ancient Ayurvedic text Bhaisajya Ratnavali of Govind Das Sen during eighteen century A.D., prescribes a specific formulation comprising five herbs named as Swachhanda Bhairava Rasa Swachhandabhairava Rasa is Abundant of herbal, mineral and herbomineral preparations have been found in Ayurveda which have been continuously used for infectious disease by Ayurvedic practitioner there are many herbomineral preparations have been found in Ayurveda. Swachhandabhairava Rasa contains pure mercury, pure Gandgaka, Vatsanabh, Jaiyphala and Pippali in equal part. Most of the ingredient are having Tikta, Katu Rasa, Ushna Virya and Yogvahi in property which is helpful to inhibit the Jwara by reducing the Kleda (wetness) and sweat out in body. So Swachhand- Bhairaw Rasa used in Nava-Jwara.

Beejotsarga - An Ayurvedic prospective on ovulation Beejotsarga - 关于排卵的阿育吠陀观点

The aim of Ayurveda is Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanam & Aturasya Vikara Prashanam, which means the maintenance of health and the cure of disease. Beejotsarga (ovulation) is an important physiological condition in women that further grants her the identity of motherhood. Arthava is the Upadhatu of Rasa Dhatu and is responsible for conception. In Ayurveda, Arthava is considered as a Beeja (seed) produced during Beejotsarga (ovulation), which occurs during the ovulation period, also known as Rutukala. The proper condition of Agni, Dhatus, and Upadhatus is essential for a proper Beejotsarga. An improper condition of these elements hampers the physiological process of ovulation. Therefore, it is necessary to study the Ayurvedic concept of Beejotsarga to understand the clinical aspects of ovulation in order to effectively cure and prevent diseases.
