Costumes which are the distinctive style of dressing is one of the many tools the film director has to tell the story in films. Costumes can communicate the details of a character’s personality to the audience and facilitate actors transform into new and believable personalities on the screen Brownie & Graydon (2016). Costumes give a visual impact on the film audience and more than just dressing an actor, costume design extends the main themes of the film in a subtly effective way, it can progress the character in a story without dialogue, costumes may not be memorable as dance sequences or banter but it can recreate time and space. While looking deeper into the costumes of the character it might be a surprise to explore a person’s politics, education, personality, social status, hierarchy, politics, and many more about the particular role played by the character. The need for communication is for the designers to effectively design the costumes. This article explores a Semiotic Analysis of how the costumes communicate the character development progresses in the Malayalam film “IYOBINTE PUSTHAKAM” the characters “IYOB” and “COMMUNIST MAN”. Semiotic Analysis is used to analyze the costume of the characters and gives an explanation of how costume designers design costumes in films that effectively communicate the character in films.

This study investigates the social presence of Kathakali, a traditional Indian dance-drama, as a performative medium. Social presence, defined as the extent to which a medium conveys the physical presence of communicating participants, is examined through a mixed methods approach combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The research employs the Social Presence Scale (SPS) to assess the social presence of Kathakali, as postulated by Short, Williams, and Christie, who theorized that communication channel selection is influenced by levels of social presence. SPS involves respondents rating the medium across four broad dimensions: insensitive-sensitive, sociable-unsociable, personal-impersonal, and cold-warm. In addition to this quantitative analysis, the study explores two thematic dimensions through in-depth interviews: 'Appreciation of Kathakali Performance,' and 'Pleasure and Rasa in Kathakali,' The survey sample comprises 158 attendees of the Red Beard Festival of Kathakali, with 66.5% being male and 33.5% female. This research sheds light on the multifaceted social presence of Kathakali and its impact on audience experiences.

Theoretically, art has been given a place in the school curriculum, but it is considered a fringe subject. This was also observed in prospective teachers with specialisations other than art, and likewise, they were reluctant to draw or paint. There is a need to understand the underlying issues and fill the gaps. This will help in prospective teachers’ personality development. In addition, they will help promote art in their schools, which they will join after finishing teacher training, which can pave the way for art-integrated teaching envisioned in National Education Policy 2020. This study aims to examine prospective teachers’ understanding of art and attitudes towards art as a subject, as well as the experiences that shaped them. It also attempts to organise an art workshop to see if it can help bridge the gap in the prospective teachers' understanding of art. For the study, 300 prospective teachers with specialisations other than art were taken as participants. Questionnaire was followed by a painting activity. Qualitative analysis highlighted the issues and gaps. It reflected participants' misconceptions of art, fears, and disinterest in art, as well as a discouraging school and home environment. It also reflected the issues in the teaching and learning process: a lack of trained art teachers and art being in the curriculum just in theory. The analysis was followed by organising the art workshop, focusing on bridging the gaps. Participants created artwork, and its qualitative analysis expressed values, showed growth in their understanding of art, and reflected participants' joy in its creation, aligning with art education's aim as mentioned in the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023.It is concluded that there are issues and challenges, and art workshops can bridge the gap in prospective teachers’ understanding of art. Consequently, art is essential to "teacher education" and can facilitate art-integrated learning, as outlined in the NCFSE 2023.

The Victorian era, spanning Queen Victoria's reign from 1837 to 1901, witnessed a complex interplay of societal norms, cultural trends, economic factors, and gender roles that profoundly influenced fashion. This era was characterized by a strict code of morality and respectability, leading to clothing that emphasized modesty and concealment, along with a distinctive class-based approach to attire. The fascination with Orientalism and the Arts and Crafts Movement left a distinct mark on fashion, introducing exotic elements and handmade details. Economic and technological factors, notably the Industrial Revolution, transformed the fabric market and influenced clothing availability and affordability. The proliferation of visual media disseminated fashion trends, while distinct men's and women's fashion reflected the "separate spheres" ideology. This exploration of Victorian fashion is not merely a retrospective analysis but an examination of how clothing serves as a mirror to society. The legacy of this era endures, influencing contemporary fashion and underscoring the enduring relationship between attire and culture. The study of Victorian fashion offers a deeper understanding of how societal values, cultural dynamics, economic forces, and gender constructs intertwine to shape the clothing choices of a bygone era, leaving a rich and resonant tapestry of historical and cultural significance.

Streaming services have revolutionized the entertainment industry and have a pivotal role in attracting youth for movie and television shows. The availability of streaming services such as NetFlix, Amazon and other platforms have drastically reduced traditional television viewing. Due to availability of the shows at any time youth are habituated to binge e-watching resulting in a single session watching complete seasons of different shows in one sitting. The e-watching has helped the youth to increase their knowledge about various cultures, beliefs, and perspectives which has helped in improving their overall understanding of the world. However, this also has led to exposure of youth to inappropriate content resulting in parental monitoring of the content usage. Media literacy has been increased by streaming services. The appropriate use of specific content for desired work needs navigation and critical evaluation. Thus, media literacy of young people is being improved by streaming services. The present review has identified that streaming services have beneficial effects on media literacy and improving the knowledge and exposure of the youth. The exposure to inappropriate content needs to be monitored so that beneficial aspects are more prominent and youth have productive outcomes based on utilization of streaming services.

The paper aims to identify and analyze the metaphorical parallels between ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’ and ‘Devdas,’ exploring Guru Dutt’s cinematic techniques and their contribution to this resonance. Existing literature on Guru Dutt’s filmmaking style and narrative techniques provides valuable insights, yet a research gap exists regarding the specific metaphorical connection between the two works. By contextualiing both narratives within the socio-cultural landscape of post-independence India, the paper highlights their lasting relevance and societal critiques. The paper examines how ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’ reexamines the ‘Devdas’ narrative, emphasizing the emotional complexities of the protagonists and their struggles against social norms. Through meticulous film analysis, including the study of cinematic techniques and metaphorical elements such as the rain sequences, shouting pack-up, reflection, film studio setting, and the non-linear story-telling technique, the paper uncovers the subtle parallels between the two stories. The paper underscores the lasting significance of both narratives and their contributions to the cinematic landscape, while also revealing Guru Dutt’s innovative approach.

Basic principle in journalism is to focus for development for public good and to uplift the society and transform the societal healthy practices. Media in its various capacity tries to inform, educate, and entertain the mass people for the benefit of human society and that should be the motto of media cutting across country line and geographical boundary. In Indian context how media focuses in its principle in the present set up that is interesting to be seen in the light of the critical perspective of freedom of expression as envisages in our constitution. In India journalistic freedom remained a million dollar question not only in pre-independence India but remained a valid question in post independence period and in the modern scenario too. In the present context if we speculate we observe that media organization and their key functionaries are vertically divided into pro and anti against any elected government and this phenomenon is not even permanent in them. They themselves frequently changes their colour for the reasons not best known by themselves alone but mass people are more knowledgeable these days and understand the very fact for this kind of shift. Off course for some time their survival question remains a valid point too in this competitive market scenario. In such a juncture this paper would like to discuss all those critical issues in this complex and media saturated condition more specifically in the light of journalistic freedom and their challenges in the current Indian situation.
