Background: Bronchial contraction and dilation is thought to be caused by non-adrenergic non-cholinergic nerves. Objective: To investigate the effects of low-frequency (1-5 Hz) and high frequency (50-100 Hz) electric acupuncture (EA) stimulation on bronchial dilation. Design: Prospective, single-center study. Setting: Teikyo Heisei University Subjects: Seventeen healthy male adults Randomization: We randomly assigned subjects to 2-Hz EA and 100-Hz EA groups in a crossover trial. The washout period was 2 weeks. Intervention: Both groups underwent a respiratory function test, followed by a 5-minute rest, followed a 5-minute rest or EA stimulation, followed by a 5- min rest. Heart rate variability was measured at rest, followed by another respiratory function test. Acupuncture was delivered near the cervical ganglia at the level of the sixth cervical vertebra on the left side. EA stimuli were set to 2-Hz or 100-Hz, and stimulation intensity was set to a level where no pain was felt. Main outcome measures: Spirometry (forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 s, and maximum respiratory flow), autonomic nerve activity (low-frequency component, high-frequency component, and their ratio), and heart rate variability. Results: Heart rate variability analysis showed significant differences in heart rate between the 2-Hz EA and 100-Hz EA groups. The 2-Hz EA group showed a significant increase in HF. Conclusions: 2-Hz EA stimulation resulted in decreased heart rate and increased HF during stimulation. This may be more effective for regulation of the autonomic nerves of the cardiopulmonary system than 100-Hz EA stimulation. Future studies are required to confirm our findings.

The aim of this research is to assess the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture combined with rehabilitation therapy for post-stroke fatigue. The methods used in this research are as follows: systematically retrieving China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, Chinese Biological Medicine Database, Cochrane Library, Medline and Embase were electronically searched from inception to Dec 2020. The dataset included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with Chinese and English only that compared acupuncture as an adjunct to rehabilitation in stroke patients with fatigue. The methodological quality of the included trials was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. Statistical analyses were performed by RevMan V.5.4.A total of 6 RCTs were included in this study, including 426 cases (213 cases in the treatment group and 213 cases in the control group). The results of meta-analysis showed that compared with conventional treatment, acupuncture as an adjuvant therapy can significantly reduce the incidence of post-stroke fatigue [MD = -5.45, 95% CI = (-6.75, -4.14), Z= 8.19 (P < 0.001)]. In terms of energy, acupuncture also has an obvious effect [MD = 1.69, 95% CI = (0.27, 3.12), Z = 2.33 (P < 0.02)]. Our systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that acupuncture combined with conventional rehabilitation therapy is an effective therapy for patients suffering from post-stroke fatigue, which is suitable for clinical promotion and use. However, due to methodological weakness and limited number of RCTs, the results should be interpreted cautiously. Further clinical trials with large sample sizes and a rigorous design are needed.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether matrine can affect the phenotypes and functional maturation of dendritic cells(DC), and to secrete many cytokines, as well asthecytotoxic Tlymophocyte(CTL) specific killing effect induced by gastric carcinoma dendritic cells vaccine in vitro. Materials and methods: The experimental groups consisted of three concentrations of matrine (0.5,1.0, and 2.0mg/mL). The DC maturation was detected by flow cytometry. The proliferation of T cells was detected by cell counting kit-8(CCK-8) method. The secretions of cytokines by CTLs were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The specific killing capacity of CTLs to target MKN45 gastric cancer cells was detected by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release assay. Results: The results showed that matrine could increase the expressions of CD86 and CD83 in a dose-dependent manner. Matrine could promote T cell proliferation (P<0.05). Moreover, matrineal so significantly increased the levels of interferon-γ (IFN-γ), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin-12p70(IL-12p70), respectively (P<0.05). The therapeutic vaccination with DCs vaccine treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) plus matrine resulted in improved killing effect as compared to that observed with DC’s treated with LP Salone (P<0.05). Conclusion: These findings define matrine as an immune adjuvant that enhances the DC activation and demonstrate a new pharmacological approach to improve the therapeutic effect of autogenous DC vaccines.

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of radiofrequency acupuncture (RFA) treatment on cervical type cervical spondylosis (CTCS), and to investigate the needling response depth of the neck acupoint using RFA and the needling response in tissues. Methods: A total of 174 patients with CTCS were randomly divided into two groups: an RFA group (n = 84) and a traditional acupuncture (TA) group (n = 90). The needling depth and the needling response impedance value were simultaneously recorded after treatment for both groups. Following one treatment course (one treatment per day for 12 days), the effect of treatment, the needling depth, and the needling response tissue category were evaluated and statistically analyzed. Results: In both groups, symptoms were significantly better than before treatment. The cure rates for the RFA group and the TA group were 81.0% and 64.4%, respectively and this difference in treatment effect between the two groups was statistically significant.

Pathological cardiac remodeling is an important cause of sudden cardiac death and other cardiovascular diseases in athletes. Unfortunately, people involved in long-term intense endurance exercise (especially professional athletes) do not fully understand the cause and health risks of pathological cardiac remodeling, resulting in pathological cardiac remodeling developing into irreversible damage, which seriously affects sports careers and the postretirement life of athletes. Studies have shown that myocardial inflammation caused by long-term and repeated high-intensity exercise is a prerequisite for inducing pathological remodeling and that effective inhibition of inflammation can block or reverse the pathological process of pathological remodeling. This preliminary study showed that moxibustion at CV 8 inhibited the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases/nuclear factor-κβ (p38 MAPK/NF-κβ) signaling pathway in myocardium, reduced the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor(TNF-α), significantly improved myocardial morphology and function in rats under going long-term and repeated high-intensity exercise, and effectively prevented pathological cardiac remodeling. Moxibustion at CV 8 provides a new physical therapy and experimental basis for the treatment of pathological cardiac remodeling in clinical practice.

As Bi-Digital O-Ring Test (originated and founded by Prof. Y. Omura in New York, 1997-2020; follow as BDORT)is a diagnosis method that is carried out on the basic theory of the physiological phenomenon called the decline of muscular power of fingers, the examiner, and patients (or mediator) are demanded to do BDORT by constant regular power. Namely BDORT is a diagnosis method that estimates the relative muscular decline of the patients, so there is such a view that the results of BDORT are reflected by consciousness of the examiner. The authors used the ORT tester by using air system to avoid the influence of electromagnetic wave and evaluated the decline of the muscle strength and open degree of the O-ring shaped by the patients. Patients of the Shimotsuura Clinic are subjected and checked by direct BDORT method. When the patients shapes the O-Ring, staff members stimulated the parts of the body by plastic stick and push foot switch. Decline of the muscle strength & open degree was evaluated. When the open degree was more than 20%, stimulated points were evaluated as abnormal. Opposite side arm of the O-Ring shaped arm was checked as control. The results of the direct BDORT method between ORT evaluation apparatus and the patient was consistent with the results of the indirect method of BDORT method between the doctor and the assistant. Even where the patients complain of ill, the muscle strength was declined and opened the O-Ring by using ORT evaluation apparatus. Especially in the parts of the strong response of Integrin α5β1 checked by the doctor, the muscle strength decreased and the open degree was much higher than other parts of the body. Patients could experience of BDORT by numeral objective evaluation of the decline of the muscle strength by using ORT evaluation apparatus.

Comparison of the electrical properties of yintang acupoints by using bi-digital o-ring test and electrical measurement on young soccer players were evaluated and compared in this study. Twenty-three right-handed young soccer players (age group 15–19) were included in this study. Skin resistance was measured with an ohmmeter and Bi-Digital O-Ring Test successively, after the players has looked at the drawing of a "smiling face" for 5 seconds from a distance of 40 cm at the eye level. Immediately afterwards they were shown the drawing of a "crying face". We then proceeded to measure the same variables using the Bi-Digital O-Ring Test. The statistics obtained thereby were subjected to Pearsons correlation coefficient and paired t-test. Results of measurement of both method were similar and meaningfull.
