Existe, nos romances de José Saramago, o elemento central da contínua indagação. Na obra Caim, por exemplo, o autor usa o personagem bíblico do título como fonte de desestabilização para o Deus do Antigo Testamento. A partir de um jogo de duplos, o discurso sagrado é constantemente ressignificado por um enfrentamento racional. E a história bíblica, como uma estrutura simbólica e mitológica, vai sendo problematizada, inserindo-se uma voz opositiva e altamente irônica. Dessa forma, o narrador e seu porta-voz (caim) subvertem o lugar de deus, tornando o romance um espaço carnavalizado em que uma nova leitura da Bíblia se constrói. *** Cain, by Jose Saramago: a temporary king of a carnivalesque Bible ***There is, in Jose Saramago’s novels, the main element of the incessant inquiry. In Cain, for example, the author uses the biblical character as a source of unsettling to the Old Testament’s God. From a game of doubles, the sacred speech is constantly reconstructed by a rational confrontation. And the biblical stories as a symbolic and mythological structure is problematized, by inserting in it an opposed and highly ironic voice. Analisamos a representação do ato leitor na obra O Outro Pé da Sereia (2006), de Mia Couto. O romance entende a leitura como veículo de reprocessamento da memória coletiva, termo que abordaremos sob a ótica de Maurice Halbwachs (2006). Dividida em duas épocas, (situadas nos anos de 2002 e 1560) a ação romanesca se centra na viagem realizada pelaprotagonista, Mwadia até sua comunidade de origem a fim de abrigar a estátua de uma santa comum dos pés arrancados, encontrada às margens de um rio. Junto com a imagem, ela encontrou documentos que descrevem a expedição do jesuíta D. Gonçalo para difusão do Catolicismo naÁfrica no século XVI. O contato com esses objetos resulta na recuperação e ressignificação de experiências passadas, a partir dos conteúdos lidos. Isso redefine a própria individualidade deMwadia e sua relação com a comunidade.*** Reinterpreted cultural identity: reading and collective memory in the Mia Couto’s novel O outro pé da sereia ***This paper analyzes the representation reading in the Mia Couto’s novel O outro pé da sereia (2006), Mia Couto. The novel understands reading as reprocessing vehicle of collective memory, a term which will be discussed from the perspective of Maurice Halbwachs (2006). Divided in temporal plots, situated in 2002 and 1560, the novelistic action focuses on the journey of the protagonist Mwadia till her community of origin in order to shelter the statue of a saint without one foot that was found on the banks of a river. Along with the image, she founds some documents that described the D. Gonçalo’s expedition to spread Catholicism in Africa in the sixteenth century. The contact with these objects results in the recuperation andresignification of past experiences. The reading content redefines Mwadia’s individuality andrelation with the community.Keywords: memory; reading; Mia Couto.

Ao reconhecer a dialética e o humanismo como princípios de construção estética em José Saramago, propomos um estudo da categoria narrativa da personagem na obra do autor, com o objetivo de explicitar seu funcionamento e seu acabamento axiológico. Partiremos do paradigma de que a explicação do literário – aqui em relação à personagem – necessita partir do interior do universo ficcional, isto é, a função que exerce na estrutura da obra. Com esse paradigma de investigação, advogaremos em defesa do funcionamento dialético da personagem; da sua constituição dialógica, intimamente relacionada a sua dialeticidade; e da articulação da vida da personagem quanto ao eixo semântico humanista-democrático, todos esses três elementos inter-relacionados de modo a construir uma certa cosmovisão de vida, de Homem. Para tornar o argumento mais sólido, recorreremos a alguns pressupostos de análise da personagem já tradicionais, como as propostas de Hamon, de Forster e de Bakhtin. *** The character in José Saramago: dialectic and humanism ***In recognizing the dialectic and humanism as principles of aesthetic construction of José Saramago, we propose a study of the narrative category of the character in the author’s work, with the purpose of explaining its functioning and its axiological finishing. As literaturas africanas em língua portuguesa despontam com muita força no século XX e, aos poucos, ganham espaço na contemporaneidade por meio de narrativas que problematizam a escrita da história a partir de epistemologias eurocêntricas. Nosso objetivo é analisar o romance Lueji, o nascimento de um império (1990), de Pepetela, a partir de olhares que nos ajudem a compreender de que forma a memória, a história e a tradição se entrelaçam em espaços-tempos diferentes e como as ações do presente se constituem por meio de uma reatualização da memória sem a pretensão de veracidade da história oficial. A tradição se constitui então como o elo entre o passado, a memória, e o futuro, reinvenção contínua do presente. As personagens centrais, Lu e Lueji, participam de realidades que questionam a força das tradições, dependendo das suas interpretações para validá-las ou não, cada uma em seus contextos. *** Memory, history and tradition: a dialogue between the old and the new novel Lueji, o nascimento de um império ***The African literatures in the Portuguese language appear and rise, strongly, in the 20th century and, slowly, get their space in the contemporaneity through the narratives which used to question the historical written based on the Eurocentric epistemology. Our goal is analyze the novel Lueji, o nascimento em um império (1990), by Pepetela, through points of view that help us to comprehend the way memory, story and tradition intertwine on different space-times and how the present actions are made by the memory upgrade without the needing of the legitimate story veracity. The tradition, therefore, was made as a bound between the past, memory and the future, a continuous present remake. Partindo da configuração do próprio romance, assim como de duas indicações da fortuna crítica, o presente texto propõe analisar o protagonismo do espaço da casa, assim como suas significações, no romance Alma (1995), de Manuel Alegre. Para tanto, passagens do texto são confrontadas principalmente com propostas que postulam a casa como local central na experiência do sujeito: as de Otto Friedrich Bollnow, em O homem e o espaço; e as de Gaston Bachelard, em A poética do espaço e em A terra e os devaneios do repouso: ensaio sobre as imagens da intimidade. *** House: a rhythm of the memory in Alma, by Manuel Alegre ***Considering the configuration of the novel itself and indications on two essays of literary criticism, this paper intends to analyse the importance of the space of the house, as well as its significations, in the novel Alma (1995), by Manuel Alegre. Neste artigo, busca-se traçar um diálogo entre Jorge Amado e Paulo Coelho, a partir da representatividade cultural dos dois escritores. Discute-se o modo pelo qual a postura assumida por ambos junto ao mercado e à cultura midiática propicia uma dessublimação do ideal moderno de autonomia da arte, em sintonia com as transformações do campo literário nos tempos contemporâneos. Considerando que Coelho e Amado construíram trajetórias e produções literárias bastante distintas, o artigo pretende apresentar linhas de afinidade, numa perspectiva cultural, com vistas a compreender o que faz esses escritores serem reconhecidos, cada um ao seu modo, como “fenômenos” de público inigualáveis no Brasil. *** Jorge Amado; Paulo Coelho; Campo literário; Mercado editorial; Cultura midiática. ***This article aims to build a dialogue between Jorge Amado and Paulo Coelho based on the cultural representativeness of the both of the writers. This paper discuss the way in which they assumed a special posture in the mediatic market and culture that provides a desublimation of the modern ideal of art’s autonomy, It synchronizes with the transformations in the literary field in contemporaneity. This research considers that Coelho and Amado have built quite distinct trajectories and literary productions. This article intends to present lines of affinity between them through a cultural perspective, aims to understanding what makes these writers to be recognized as “phenomenon” to the unequaled public in the Brazil.Keywords: Jorge Amado; Paulo Coelho; Literary field; Publishing market; Midiatic culture.
