This article describes death ideas which occur in Sylvia Plath‟s selected poems entitled “Full Fathom Five”, “I am Vertical”, “Ariel” and “Edge” which focused on their relation to poet‟s depression evidence before committing suicide. It can be used to investigate poet‟s suicide case in perspective of forensic linguistics. This is a qualitative research that is conducted by using L.G. Alexander‟s poetic devices and theory of suicide by Durkheim to analyse Plath‟s suicidal motives. The result of the analysis shows that Plath‟s selected poems are really standing out as the evidence of her depression during alive. In forensic linguistics case, the series of depression evidence in the poems can be the proof of suicidal unseen motives which are known through her language used in the poems. Plath‟s suicidal motives are basically oriented to the stage of self-destruction due to the changing ideas of death from the selected poems from death as unacceptable thing, an unavoidable choice, gate for a rebirth to final solution of all life's problems. It is caused by personal feeling that completely separate from community.

This article aims to describe the forms of kinship term in Minangkabau language used by society in Nagari Simawang. The data are collected by using questionnaire, interview, cross check, elicitation, recording, and note taking. In addition, non-participant observation is also used to collect the data of using address terms in a conversation. In analyzing the data, content analysis method is used by sorting and classifying data based on the type or category of address terms theory through the systems of kinship relation in Minangkabau culture. The results of analysisshow the characteristic of Minangkabau culture in using address term such as a form of kinship term, kinship terms which are added by pronouns and adjectivc, and also titles only. This study aims at analyzing speech acts in the dialogue conducted among characters in ―Beauty and The Beast‖ movie and the implication of analysis for teaching English in EFL cSntext. Qualitative and quantitative methods were employed in order to process the data comprehensively. Movie script and movie video were exploited as the source of data. The procedure of analysis was conducted through identification, classification, and utilization of comprehensive analysis of language use in relation to pragmatics and contexts in discourse approach. The findings showed that all type of speech acts were used by all characters in their dialogue. Among types of speech acts, directive speech act was frequently employed since it reached 92 times of use (57%). Particularly, the analysis of speech acts in characters‘ utterances can benefit teaching practitioners mainly in making connection of using movie as learning media with the teaching of language in EFL setting. Therefore, students do not only watch the movie but they also learn the language simultaneously.

ABSTRA C K The aim of this research is to know the type ofanxiety encountered by students in speaking class and toknow the dominant factor of anxiety in speaking class. The type of this research is descriptive research. The respondent of this research are the English Department students of UPI YPTK Padang. Total respondent in this research are 26 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire, interview and observation. First, the researcher distribute the questionnaire to the respondent, the questionnaire include 33 items based on the indicator about speaking anxiety. Based on the data from all instruments the researcher concluded that the domnant anxiety encountered by the students is State Anxiety that has high percentage from the other type of anxiety, that is 67%. Then, the dominant factor that influence on students spekaing anxiety is lack of preparation , they feel anxiety because lake of preparation, so they do not know what should be conveyed. This study aims to explore the realization of cohesive devices in the abstracts of the theses written by undergraduate students of English Education Program at a state university in Bandung. This study also attempts to reveal the contributions of the cohesive devices used by the students in their abstract to build the cohesiveness of the text. This study belongs to a descriptive study involving 42 abstracts as the data of the study. This study exposes two main findings. First, cohesive devices that are employed in students’ abstract are reference, conjunction, substitution, and lexical cohesion. Second, each device gives significant contribution to the cohesiveness of students’ abstract. Reference contributes to keep track of the participants of the text and help readers to point to something within or outside the text. Lexical cohesion also contributes to keep tract of the participants of the text. Meanwhile, the contribution of conjunction in students’ abstract is to connect the preceding part with the next one systematically. In addition, substitution is used by the students to avoid repetition in their abstract. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that cohesive devices are important devices to create cohesive abstracts.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan lagu Bahasa Inggris dalam memperkenalkan kosakata Bahasa Inggris oleh guru di Taman Kanak–Kanak Murni Padang. Peneliti menganalisis tahap penerapan sebuah lagu bahasa Inggris yang dapat digunakan oleh guru Bahasa Inggris dalam memperkenalkan kosakata Bahasa Inggris berdasarkan teori dari Case, Lynch, dan Sophya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti meminta peneliti sejawat memberikan evaluasi dalam bentuk ceklis observasi yang berisi saran dari peneliti sejawat tentang ketiga tahap observasi penelitian yang telah dilakukan. Dari data yang diberikan oleh peneliti sejawat setelah melakukan tiga kali observasi, ditemukan bahwa guru belum menerapkan seluruh tahap pengajaran dengan sempurna dan anak TK belum mengenal kosakata disaat observasi pertama. Saat observasi kedua, guru telah menerapkan seluruh tahap pengajaran dan anak TK mulai mengenal kosakata. Di akhir observasi, peneliti sejawat menganalisis bahwa peneliti mampu menerapkan seluruh tahap pengajaran lagu bahasa Inggris kepada anak TK Murni dan anak TK mampu mengenal kosakata yang telah dipelajari. Disimpulkan dari hasil penelitian ini bahwa peneliti sudah mampu melakukan seluruh tahapan pengajaran bahasa Inggris melalui lagu dan anak TK meningkat kosakata yang dikenal secara bertahap.
