In this study, two new alloys, resulting of the addition of carbon and hafnium to a well–known high entropy alloy (HEA) – the equimolar CoNiFeMnCr one – to promote the formation of HfC carbides, were produced by conventional casting under inert atmosphere and characterized. The as–cast microstructures of the obtained HEA/HfC alloys were studied by X–ray diffraction, electron microscopy, energy dispersion spectrometry, and Vickers indentation. These HEA/HfC alloys are double–phased, with an austenitic matrix and interdendritic eutectic script–like HfC carbides. In terms of chemical composition and of crystallographic network, the matrix of the alloys is identical to the CoNiFeMnCr alloy. In that way, the two alloys can be considered as composite materials resulting of a HEA matrix strengthened by hard HfC particles.

"The present research aims to obtain a mathematical model for estimating the costs involved in the initial investment for heat pump systems using the regression analysis. In the current economic context towards a climate-neutral Europe by 2050, heat pumps are becoming increasingly used in the buildings sector. As innovative and sustainable heat energy systems, they require a higher capital investment than conventional heating and cooling systems. Therefore, this study addresses the current needs by carrying out a comprehensive analysis of the costs involved in the initial investing in a heat pump system. Three regression analyses will be carried out to estimate the costs for air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and water source heat pumps respectively."

The manuscript presents the barrier properties of Arboblend V2 Nature and Arboblend V2 Nature reinforced by coating granules with silver nanoparticles, regarding the contact angle and oxygen transmission rate. Also, are highlighted compression molding stages used in order to obtain the test samples - thin sheets. Following the obtained results is observed that by using the PVD coating the oxygen transmission ratio is reduced up to 32% compared to the base material. This improvement is due to the small silver nanoparticles that were uniformly deposited on the surface of Arboblend V2 Nature granules. In what concern the surface-wetting of the analysed samples, a small but obvious improvement takes place, the difference between the average contact angles being approximatively 5°.

The exothermic reactions between AA 6063 alloy, AlV master alloy, and inorganic salt mixture (KBF4) result in the fabrication of matrix alloy 6063 reinforced by in-situ obtained VB2 particles via liquid metallurgy. The presence of VB2 was revealed using optical microscopy and by the XRD patterns. The reinforcing particles act as a grain refiner at 1% concentration of VB2. A set of compressive tests were taken to showcase the compressive stress-strain curves of the different samples at different concentrations of VB2.

This paper addresses an issue of utmost importance at present, namely the sterilization/disinfection of objects infected with SARS CoV 2 virus (COVID 19), using an original technical solution. First, general data on COVID 19 virus are presented. The main regulations and technical solutions for sterilization and disinfection are then presented in order to highlight as much as possible the importance of the problem addressed and the degree of innovation of the proposed solution. Next, the proposed technical solution for sterilization and disinfection with the use of infrared radiant panels is presented, a better solution compared to the currently known solutions. The principle concept is presented, then the technical prototype made and the results of experiments performed to establish the characteristics of operation and use of the equipment obtained. The equipment is made using high - performance components and has the possibility of programming according to several operating situations, being equipped with an electronic control unit. The possibilities of completion in several types and dimensions are shown, for several types of objects subjected to sterilization and disinfection.

The behavior of peat soil's physical characteristics and the mechanism are extremely influenced by the decomposition degree. This study aims to know a physique range alteration and mechanism of the peat soil fibrous reviewed from the enhanced value of California Bearing Ratio (CBR) after it is stabilized using Effective Microorganism (EM). The volume of EM inserted and combined are 20% and 40% that ripened for 14 and 21 days. Then the peat soil and EM are mixed with water content close to original peat soil volume. The results showed that the most significant change in peat soil's physical characteristics and the mechanism is 40% EM solution with maximum decomposition rate occurs at the 14-days ripening period. The fiber content is reduced from 60% to 52%, and decomposition rate 0% fiber/day to 0.57% fiber/day, and the increased value of unsoaked CBR 3.28% to 7.47% and 3.01% to 6.11% in wet conditions.

Given the climate changes that are becoming more evident in recent years, the assessment of their impact on the dynamics of the environment matrix over extended periods is needed. In this paper, the results obtained using a Matlab toolbox developed to provide numerical and graphical outputs for a quick assessment of the present and future wave and wind climate are presented. Based on the wave and wind simulation data, quick information about the sea states or wind conditions over an area or in selected points are provided as output. These include annual, seasonal and monthly statistics, trends, bivariate distribution of the wave parameters, wind speed magnitude, average wave and wind energy, analyses of the extreme events, etc., Such results are of interest for various applications in the marine environment.

"Water and energy are basic resources for humanity. As the processes of providing these resources have a major contribution to intensifying climate change, there has been a growing interest in finding ways to balance the demand and consumption of these resources, strengthening the resilience of these systems to socio-economic and environmental disturbances. This paper analyses the characteristics of interconnectivity between two systems – energy supply system and water supply system. The connections between demand and consumption of water and energy in these interrelated supply systems are highlighted at the level of EU and world regions. The concept of Water-Energy Nexus is introduced and different models and indicators are described. The specific energy indicators on “energy for water” are analyzed for the case of urban water supply systems and ways for energy efficiency increasing are established."

This paper presents a comparative study of the performance of some Mode Indicator Functions used in the modal testing of a structure with close modes, based on a restricted and non-optimal data set with a single reference. Best results are obtained using multi-curve modal indicators having the form of orthogonal projectors defined somewhat complementary to componentwise power spectra.

Conventional wastewater treatment processes are preparing the water for discharge thus it still contains small amounts of pollutants. For re-use, advanced wastewater treatment is required and heterogeneous photocatalysis represent a viable path for removing organic pollutants at very low concentrations but still above the discharge limit. The mostly investigated photocatalyst is TiO2 that is a wide band gap semiconductor that can be activated only using UV radiation. However, for large-scale implementation of advanced wastewater treatment, there are required efficient and affordable processes, thus Vis- or solar-activated photocatalysts. Attempts on extending the photocatalytic response towards Vis are under intensive research including the development of composite structures with TiO2 matrix and various fillers that are discussed through this paper. The latest results involving carbon-based fillers are presented along with the extended use of the composites acting also as self-cleaning coatings.
