Abstract Episema glaucina (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) has been recorded for the first time in Poland following the faunistic revision of material collected by A.S. Kostrowicki in the Nida Valley in the early 1950s, and on the basis of specimens trapped during fieldwork in the same region of the Małopolska Upland in southern Poland.

Abstract The effects of temperature treatments (15, 20, 25, 30, 35 ±1ºC), parasite age, host age, and availability of food on the development and reproduction of the egg parasite Trichogramma cacoeciae on Cydia pomonella eggs, were examined. The results showed that temperature had a profound effect on the mean number of parasitized eggs/females and the survival of immatures to the adult stage. Parasitization was highest on the 1st day after emergence, gradually decreasing for the next 2-10 days (depending on the temperature); it reached a peak at 25±1 ºC. The results also showed an inverse relationship between temperature, developmental time and mean adult longevity; the rate of development increased and longevity decreased with increasing temperature. The availability of food (honey) increased the parasitization rate, and the younger the host (C. pomonella eggs), the more susceptible it was to parasitization.

Relevance of prolonged first mating in reproductive bioactivities of Dysdercus koenigii (Fabricius, 1775) (Heteroptera: Pyrrhocoridae) 第一次交配时间延长与柯氏霉(Fabricius, 1775)生殖生物活性的关系(异翅目:火蛾科)

Abstract Adults of Dysdercus koenigii remain in continuous copula for up to 72h. The adaptive significance of prolonged copulation in the reproductive bioactivities of D. koenigii was investigated by a series of interrupted mating experiments. The adults were allowed to mate for a specified duration, after which mating was forcibly terminated. The study indicated that insemination in the female takes place during the first day of mating. This was reflected by the observation that 24h mated females laid fertile eggs. Prolonged mating modifies the female’s reproductive behaviour. The duration of mating had a profound effect on the onset of oviposition as well as the total number of eggs and egg batches laid by a female during her lifetime. Female fertility was also correlated with the duration of mating. Therefore, a female mated for 24h laid fewer fertile eggs in comparison to females mated for 48h or 72h. Hatching success decreased significantly in the egg batches laid by a female during the latter part of her life. A mated female exhibited rhythmic ovipositional behaviour. Our results indicated that the rhythmicity of the oviposition changed as a consequence of the different duration of mating. For instance, in females mated for 24h, there was a change in the number of eggs laid and in the rhythmicity of ovipositional peaks. Further, the rate of oocyte growth appeared to be enhanced by mating. This was evidenced by the shorter inter-oviposition period in the case of females mated for a longer period. It is suggested that throughout mating, females acquire additional sperm and non-gametic resources, such as male accessory gland secretions, which govern their reproductive behaviour and physiology.

Abstract The present investigation is the first to provide systematic information about marine dipteran larvae of the genus Aphrosylus Haliday, 1851 (Dolichopodidae), collected from the Egyptian Mediterranean Sea. During May 2017, fouling samples were scraped from natural coastal rocks in the Abu Qir area, east of Alexandria city, Egypt. Only two larvae of Aphrosylus sp. were recorded. This is a new record for the Egyptian Mediterranean Sea fauna. A concise description supplied with drawings, habitat, and distribution of the recorded genus is provided.

Abstract Three exotic bostrichid beetle species – Sinoxylon anale, S. indicum and S. sudanicum – were simultaneously detected in Italy from wood packaging material declared compliant with the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) and originating from India. These taxa were identified through morphological characters and sequences of COX1 gene were obtained. This case study was analysed and the findings support the need to implement adequate wood requirements according to IPPC/FAO standards.

Abstract Adult ichneumonids of Hyposoter placidus were reared from caterpillars of the large copper butterfly Lycaena dispar collected in NE Poland, feeding on Rumex confertus, R. hydrolapathum and R. obtusifolius. This is the first record of this parasitoid in the country. We hypothesize that H. placidus may be a factor limiting the abundance of populations of L. dispar, a widespread species but usually occurring in low numbers.

Abstract As a result of recent collecting efforts and older unpublished data of one of us (AA), 32 ant species (including 2 morphospecies) new to the island of Sicily (Italy) were discovered. Seven of these taxa represent unequivocally exotic entities, whose discovery marks a decisive increase of this component in the local fauna. Among these, two forms of Nylanderia EMERY, 1906 are treated as morphospecies because of the problematic taxonomy of the genus. Six taxa among the discovered species are entirely new to the myrmecofauna of Italy. Finally, Tetramorium indocile SANTSCHI, 1927 is reported for the first time as a host for the social parasite Strongylognathus testaceus (SCHENCK, 1852). The state of the art of the Sicilian myrmecofauna, now counting about 150 species, is commented on.

Abstract Pulvinaria regalis has been recorded for the first time in Poland. This species was observed in large numbers on Acer pseudoplatanu, A. platanoides, Aesculus hippocastanum, Robinia pseudacacia, Tilia × euchlora and T. cordata in urban areas. Basic diagnostic information for this species and a key to separate the species of Pulvinaria recorded in Poland is provided. Aspects of the distribution, biology and economic importance of P. regalis are also discussed.
