In this letter, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel data remodulation on downstream OFSK signals for upstream transmission in WDM-PONs. The OFSK transmitter generates constant-intensity wavelength shift keying signals based on phase modulation and polarization modulation. We successfully demonstrate the proposed WDM-PONs with 2.5Gb/s downstream OFSK signals and 2.5Gb/s upstream ASK signals. Keywords-remodulation; WDM-PON; optical frequency shift keying; polarization modulation.

This paper gave a method to identify the visible spectrum of micro areas on the biological surface with the back propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN).The visible spectrum (from 500nm to 730nm) of the micro areas with some specks on the surface of the apples was measured with the self- made fiber sensor spectrometer. A kind of BP-ANN with single hidden layer was devised to identify the characteristics on the biological surface automatically. It was also studied that the performance of the ANN with the different ranges of the output, the different numbers of the single hidden layer's units, the influence to the ANN if the noise was added to the input signals. Finally a three-stage ANN was founded to identify the four sorts of apples, the fleckless, the pushed, the scared, and the rotten» 25,10,10 and 10 respectively were selected as training samples, and 15,10,10 and 10 respectively were selected as testing samples. This BP-ANN can achieve 85% accuracy if 20% noise was added.

The optical anisotropy of magnetic fluids, including linear birefringence and linear dichroism simultaneously, under externally applied magnetic fields is investigated in this work. Analytical expressions to describe the polarization properties (direction of main polarization and degree of polarization) of the transmitted elliptically polarized light after the optically anisotropic magnetic fluids are obtained by theoretical derivation. Numerical examples are presented to examine the relationship between the polarization properties and the combined (coexistence of linear birefringence and linear dichroism) optical anisotropy. Applications to photonic devices based on the combined and "pure" (linear birefringence only) optical anisotropy are demonstrated. The notable discrepancy between the two cases at slightly high magnetic fields indicates that it is usually improper to ignore the linear dichroism for some applications.

A new hybrid algorithm (MIE-WPTOSC), which is the combination of wavelet packet transform (WPT), orthogonal signal correction (OSC) and maximum information extraction (MIE), is proposed for interferences elimination in near-infrared (NIR) spectra. In MIE-WPTOSC algorithm, WPT is firstly employed for de-noising by threshold method, and then MIE is applied to remove the baseline of the spectra based on information theory. At last, the information uncorrelated to the concentrations of analyte is eliminated by the OSC in each frequency band of spectra. To validate the effectiveness of the MIE-WPTOSC algorithm, a real NIR spectral dataset of milk was analyzed by different methods for the concentration determination of fat and protein. Experimental results show that the prediction ability and robustness of calibration models developed by MIE-WPTOSC are superior to those developed by either WPT or OSC individually. The root mean square errors of the calibration models for fat and protein can reach up to 0.0832% and 0.0846%, which indicates that the MIE-WPTOSC algorithm is efficient to eliminate the interference information in NIR spectra. Keywordsnear-infrared spectroscopy; maximum information extraction; wavelet packet transform; orthogonal signal correction

the nonlinear optical properties of aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTS) are studied. Measured photoluminescence spectrum of MWCNTs film reveals that there are two emission peaks at 450 nm and 470 nm while MWCNTs are excited by 675 nm photons and 704 nm photons respectively. The MWCNTs absorption spectrum indicated that there are a peak point at 450 nm and a valley bottom at 470 nm. An energy model was proposed to explain the MWCNT multi-photon absorption reasonably: Three-photon absorption of 675 nm photons would lead to 450 nm photons emission while two-photon absorption of 704 nm would excite 470 nm photons. Keywords-MWCNTs; photoluminescence spectrum; absorption spectrum; energy model; multi-photon absorption

A fiber-optic hydrogen gas sensor using composite palladium and tungsten trioxide (WO3) was proposed and characterized. This sensor utilizes the absorption of the evanescent field interaction in the clad of Pd/WO3 thin film which was prepared by magnetron co-sputtering process, coated on a silica core. Modulation of optical power intensity is observed, a clear increase of power with hydrogen and decrease of power without hydrogen can be concluded. Compared to pure Pd sensitive material, an improvement of response time is reported. Meanwhile, there is no recovery in nitrogen environment, and recovery happens only in oxygen-existing condition. It is suspected that the recovery process is connected to oxidation of the Pd/WO3 surface.

benzylidene-bis-4-hydroxycoumarin(BBHC) was prepared by using a microwave synthetic route in which 4- hydroxycoumarin was treated with benzaldehyde in the presence of ethanol. The formation of BBHC was characterized by IR, 1 H-NMR, MS and elemental analysis. Its crystal structure was determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Compared with BBHC synthesized by conventional heating methods, there was no isomerism phenomenon in their structures.

A modified spin coating method used for fabricating the waveguide layer has been evaluated for Love wave device. The properties of these devices have been compared with those of devices fabricated by the conventional method. The thicker and smooth layers achieved by the modified method enhance the mass sensitivity and reduce the insertion loss. Poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and sulfosalicylic acid (SSA) modified Poly (methyl-3,3,3trifluoropropylsiloxane) (PMTFPS) are used to detect the dimethyl methyl phosphonate (DMMP) vapor, a simulant of nerve agents. Both the QCM sensors based on the two materials show the fast, large, and reversible response against DMMP. A group of hydrogen-bond acidic polymers has been investigated on their sensitivity of DMMP vapor. The experiments show that a polymer with the strongest hydrogen-bond acidic functional group can be the least sensitive one among the studied polymers. It is attributed to the different degree of self-association of the polymers determined by the entanglement of the polymer chains. ZnO:Mn thin flims were fabricated by Sol-gel technique. the effect of annealing time on the photoluminescence (PL) properties of the prepared flims has been investigated. The room temperature PL of ZnO:Mn films is shown to consist of an UV emission band due to radiative recombination of free excitons and a weak green band signated as the radiative transition from Zn vacancies(VZn) to Oxygen antisites. It is shown that whereas increasing annealing time make both of emission bands increase, an enhacement for the relative intensity of green emission compared to that of UV emission is obtend. Meanwhile, An increse of saturation magnetizations was also observed. All results provided clear evidences that although the annealing have the effect of ameliorate the microstructure of ZnO:Mn flim, the accompanied increased VZn defects make the magnetic moments become more alignd.
