Quantum dots (QDs) have received considerable attention due to their advantages and are widely used in biological studies, especially for multiplexed staining assays and immunological assays. Here we report an easy method for quantum dot synthesis and encapsulation, and use for efficient bioconjugation with secondary antibody. For the application of QDs-antibody conjugates, we approached a fast dot blotting immunological assay, and then we used a breast cancer cell line SKBR3 and anti-EpCAM antibody as the primary antibody for the cell imaging. The results shows that this conjugates can be successfully used in immunological assays such as dot blotting and cell imaging, and with the help of certain blocking buffers, specific and sensitive signals can be obtained.

PZT thin films on Pt/SiO2/Si substrate were prepared by RF magnetron sputtering. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) were employed to investigate some behavior of the phase transformation process from non-perovskite to perovskite. It was found that the ferroelectric domains in PZT film during a rapid thermal annealing grew in rosette mode, the correlation between topography and perovskite phase area was formed in early thermal annealing process, and then was broken as further annealed time increased. With the annealed time increased, some phase transformation area changed from no ferroelectric domain to mono ferroelectric domain and to multi ferroelectric domain finally.

In this paper, we proposed a novel filtering method – Local-loop Particle Filter Based on the Artificial Fish Algorithm (LPF-AF) for nonlinear dynamic systems. Particle filtering algorithm has been widely used in solving nonlinear/non Gaussian filtering problems. The proposal distribution is the key issue of the particle filtering, which will greatly influence the performance of algorithm. In the proposed LPF-AF, the local searching of AF is used to regenerate sample particles, which can make the proposal distribution more closed to the poster distribution. There are mainly two steps in the proposed filter. In the first step of LPFAF, extended kalman filter was used as proposal distribution to generate particles, then means and variances of the proposal distribution can be calculated. In the second step, some particles move to toward the particle with the biggest weights. The proposed LPF-AF algorithm was compared with other several filtering algorithms and the experimental results show that means and variances of LPF-AF are lower than other filtering algorithms. A bandgap and intersublevel spacing tuned laser and a broadband quantum dot superluminescent diodes have been realized by using a modulation p-doped InGaAs/GaAs quantum dot structure, which utilises a post-growth annealing process. The intermixed laser exhibits comparable light-current characteristics, indicating little detrimental change to the quantum dot laser material, and show a ground-state bandgap blueshift of ~13nm and intersublevel energy spacing reduction of ~30nm comparing to the un-annealed device. The intermixed broadband superluminescent light emitting diodes exhibits a large and flat emission with spectral width up to 132nm at 2 mW.

The process of photon correlator used in the Photon Correlation Spectroscopy technique is described. Because of the restriction of hardware resource, linear correlator with limited channels cannot resolve the contradiction between time resolution and dynamic range. To overcome the shortcoming of linear correlator, the architecture of non-linear correlator is investigated. To implement such a construction as non-linear correlator, a variable-length shift register must be adopt. In this paper, a single input multiple output circle buffer is proposed to implement the variable-length shift register avoiding significant resource waste. So the delay time between every two channels can be randomly set. It is showed in an experiment that an extraordinary dynamic range with short sampling time is achieved by using the non-linear correlator.

In this paper, we present the effects of self-heating on the characteristics of a gain-guided long-wavelength verticalcavity surface emitting laser (LW-VCSEL) virtual model. The device employs InGaAsP multi-quantum wells sandwiched between GaAs/AlGaAs and GaAs/AlAs distributed Bragg reflectors modeled using an industrial-based numerical simulator. We were able to obtain a working model at an optical wavelength of 1.55 μm. This paper provides key results of the device characteristics upon lattice temperature heating including the DC I-V, the light power versus electrical bias, the optical gain versus electrical bias and the various elements of heat sources within the modeled device. Keywords-VCSEL, 1550 nm, DBR, InGaAsP, self-heating effects

The interface guided modes in a photonic crystal heterostructure composed of a triangular-lattice and a honeycomb-lattice are investigated. The simulation results show that the guided modes can exist in the heterostructure without any shift of the lattices and the number of guided modes strongly depends on the geometric parameters of the heterostructure. Keywords-photonic crystals; heterostructure; interface guided modes The photonic crystal waveguide is expected to hold the key to future all-optical circuits. The interface guided modes can be created by introducing line defects in an ideal photonic crystal (1-4). The photonic crystal heterostructure(PCH) can also produce guided modes in the interface between two lattices with different physical or geometrical parameters (5-7) and provide a new way to form the light waveguide. Assuming that the center frequencies of the photonic band gaps (PBGs) in two different lattices are identical, the interface states will be possibly produced in the interface of the heterostructure composed of these two lattices. A 3D photonic crystal heterostructure was also reported (8). Recently, there has been growing interest on heterostructures formed by metallic photonic crystals (9-10). Therefore, it is an important and interesting topic how to find a new kind of PCH that can produce guided modes without any relative shift of the lattices on either side of the interface of the PCH. In the present paper, a 2D photonic crystal heterostructure with a complete photonic band gap, consisting of circular scatterers, is proposed and the interface guided modes in the heterostructure are investigated in detail.

The adsorption and photodecomposition of diphenolic acid (DPA) was investigated in the presence of αor cyclodextrins (CDs) and TiO2 suspensions. The adsorption of DPA on TiO2 surface and inclusion complex of CDs and DPA were critical factor in the photocatalytic reaction. Results showed that, the adsorption isotherms of DPA could be plotted with the Langmuir isotherm model, and the maximum adsorption capacity increased in the order of α-CD/TiO2 TiO2> -CD/ TiO2). The influence factors of -CD concentration, DPA initial concentration on photodegradation of DPA were studied. This paper also simply explored the mechanism of the different degradation effect in the presence of or -CD. With the addition of -cyclodextrin, the enhancement of photodegradation of DPA mainly results from the enhancement of adsorption of DPA on TiO2 surface and the lower bond energy between some atoms in DPA molecule after inclusion interactions with -CD. While with the addition of -CD, the photodecomposition inhibition role of -CD to DPA on TiO2 surface leaded to reducing photodegradation of DPA, because CD and DPA did not form a stable inclusion compounds and decreased the adsorption amount of DPA on the TiO2 surface. Keywords-TiO2 ;diphenolic acid ; cyclodextrin; photodecomposition ; adsorption

The uniformity of the axial intensity distribution of an axicon is very important in practical applications. However, its axial intensity distribution usually exhibits oscillations when an axicon is illuminated by a cohere wave. To uniform the axial intensity distribution within a desired range, an anamorphic binary axicon is proposed in our paper and obtained from an original binary axicon by optimization design. And the optimization tool is to combine a genetic algorithm (GA) with a rigorous electromagnetic computation method, which is a twodimensional finite-difference time-domain (2-D FDTD) method in connection with Stratton-Chu formula (SCF). Numerical simulation result demonstrates that, compared with the original binary axicon, the anamorphic one can greatly improve the uniformity of the axial intensity distribution, when both are illuminated by a plane wave.
