Fish bone bowel perforation has been shown as a major cause of presentation in the emergency room, even though most dietary foreign bodies are passed unnoticed. This a case report of a couple of patients who presented at the emergency room with acute abdominal pain. Both patients had no memory of recently swallowing any fish bone. Case 1 showed moderate right upper quadrant tenderness and hepatomegaly, while case 2 had paraumbilical tenderness and guarding. On CT imaging both patients demonstrated intraabdominal abscesses: in the liver for case 1, and intraperitoneal and anterior abdominal wall for case 2. Linear hyperdense structure of calcific density (HU 93-151) was seen in each intraabdominal abscess collection, and an abutting adjacent bowel loop. These imaging findings were confirmed during surgical intervention: laparoscopic hepatic abscess drainage and laparotomy/anterior abdominal wall repair respectively for case 1 and case 2.

The desmoplastic ameloblastoma is an uncommon subtype of ameloblastoma. Clinical and radiographic presentation differs from other forms of ameloblastoma, and the lesion is sometimes confused with fibro-osseous lesions, making it important for clinicians to review its distinctive clinical and radiographic features. The authors in this article present three cases of desmoplastic ameloblastomas, which were treated at the Augusta University Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinic.

1.1. Introduction: Kinetic Oscillation Stimulation (KOS) is a new treatment for symptoms of non-allergic rhinitis (NAR). The aim of the study was to investigate effectiveness of KOS treatment in patients affected by NAR. 1.2. Methods: From December 2018 to July 2020, 39 patients, already refractory to conventional medical therapy, were treated with KOS. As control group, we considered a group of 41 patients treated with topical mometasone furoate, observed in the same period and number of days. During the ENT visit, objective examinations were performed to assess respiratory function. In addition, all the subjects filled out quality of life (QoL) questionnaires. All patients were reevaluated after 45 days. 1.3. Results: All the instrumental assessments and QoL questionnaires showed a significant improvement 45 days after KOS treatment. Sixteen patients (43%) reported an improvement across all tests. Active anterior rhinomanometry improved for Inspiratory Resistance in 26 patients (70%) and for Expiratory Resistance for 27 patients (73%). Moreover, we found that KOS group presented a better improvement statistically significant for the QoL questionnaries, respect the control group. 1.4. Conclusion: KOS treatment is a safe and mini-invasive procedure for the treatment of NAR symptoms, well accepted from patients and with a promising improvement of QoL, better than conventional medical therapies.

1.1. Objective: To determine the affiliation among the timing of surgical procedure relative to the improvement of Covid-19 and the dangers of postoperative complications. 1.2. Background: It is unknown whether or not patients who recovered from Covid-19 after which underwent a prime elective operation have an increased danger of developing postoperative complications. 1.3. Material and Methods: The risk of postoperative complications for patients with Covid-19 research process, 18 primary forms of optionally available operations with inside the Covid-19 Research Database was evaluated the use of multivariable logistic regression. Patients were grouped through time of surgical procedure relative to Covid-19 infection i.e. 1. Pre-Covid-19: Surgical procedure performed earlier than January 2020 2. Peri-Covid-19: 0 to 4 weeks after Covid-19 infection 3. Early post-Covid-19: 4 to 8 weeks after infection 4. Late post-Covid-19: 8 weeks after infection. 1.4. Results: A total of 6479 patients who met study criteria were included in the study. Out of 6479 patients 3021 (46.6%) PeriCovid-19 had an elevated risk of developing postoperative pneumonia in 44(1.4%) patients, respiratory failure in 69(2%), pulmonary embolism in 23(0.5%), sepsis in 35(1.1%), arthythmia in 59(1.9%), renal failure in 75 (2.4%), UTI in 75(2.4%), DVT in 40(1.3%) patient’s respectively when compared to pre-Covid-19 patients. Early post-Covid-19 patients had an increased risk of developing postoperative pneumonia in 16 (2.9%), respiratory failure in 15(2.7%), pulmonary embolism in 7(1.2%), sepsis in 13(2.3%), arthythmia in 15(2.7%), renal failure in 13(2.3%), UTI in 17(3.1%), DVT in 10(1.8%) patients respectively when compared to pre-Covid-19 patients. Late post-Covid-19 patients did not have an increased risk of postoperative complications when compared to pre-Covid-19 patients. 1.5. Conclusions: Major, elective surgery 0 to 04 weeks after Covid-19 infection is related to an improved risk of postoperative complications. Surgery achieved four to eight weeks after Covid-19 infection remains related to an improved risk of postoperative pneumonia, while surgical treatment eight weeks after Covid-19 analysis is not related to improved complications.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the second most frequent type in the world and is the most common among women. The increase in its incidence has been a cause of constant and growing concern, as the incidence rates vary greatly according to the degree of socio-economic development. Currently, the genesis of breast cancer and its risk factors have been receiving an important consideration, since these factors are crucial when thinking about its prevention. As developing countries are constantly growing, there is a change in their lifestyle habits, such as fat and alcohol intake, smoking, exposure to oral contraceptives, changes in procreation and breastfeeding patterns, birth profile. With this change, they also accumulate more diseases associated with this culture, among them breast cancer. Objective: to analyze a possible relationship between HDI and the incidence of breast cancer worldwide. Methods: The incidence of breast cancer in 164 countries was obtained from GLOBOCAN, derived from population-based cancer records. A list of human development index of the same 164 countries was obtained from the United Nations Human Development Report. Nonlinear regression models were obtained using the Levenberg-Marquardt estimation method. Results and Conclusions: Of the 164 countries evaluated, 146 were in the range between 10 and -10 of predicted variation, which were between the fifth and 95th percentile values. The 18 countries whose incidences of CM were found to deviate outside this range (nine above and below, respectively) were considered as discrepant observations. Once the data from countries with discrepant observations were removed, nonlinear regression analysis of the group of 146 remaining countries was obtained using the Levenberg-Marquardt estimation method, identifying a value of “R2” at 0.8343, confirming the high reliability of the proposed mathematical model. This result suggests the hypothesis that the factors included in the calculation of the Human Development Index are strongly related to those involved in the population incidence of breast cancer. The application of this model also suggested the existence of a group of countries that apparently present protective factors or that favor the onset of breast cancer

Depression is defined as a mood disorder, which presents as main characteristics changes in sleep, appetite, loss of interest in pleasurable activities, depressed mood, among others. Obesity is characterized as a chronic disease, of not yet fully clarified etiology, characterized by the accumulation of fat in adipose tissue, being able to negatively affect the metabolic system as a whole, compromising the health of the individual. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review on the prevalence of depressive disorder in the postoperative period of bariatric surgery. For this review, searches were performed in the following databases: Pub Med, SCIELO, LILACS, Elsevier and Embase. The following descriptors were used in Portuguese and English: depressive disorder, postoperative, bariatric surgery. We found 630 articles with the descriptors mentioned, of which after the selection process there were 46 articles for full reading, of which 10 met all inclusion criteria. Data collection was restricted to clinical research conducted with humans of both genders from 2010. The study concluded that there is a high demand of patients who underwent bariatric surgery with depression in the postoperative period.

Patients with high grade dysplastic nodule (HGDN) have an increased risk for development of hepatocellular carcinoma. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in a young patient with no cirrhosis or fibrosis is a relatively rare condition. HCC develops in patients in the setting of liver cirrhosis with established risk factors related to various etiologies including hepatitis virus infection, high alcohol intake or metabolic diseases. This was a case of a 29-year-old male with a 7-month history of intermittent right upper quadrant pain with CT scan findings of caudate lobe mass with malignant features. The patient underwent extended left hepatectomy with caudate lobectomy. Patient was discharged on fifth postoperative day, and was advised for follow-up surveillance on an outpatient basis. Liver cirrhosis is the main risk factor for developing HGDN, although rare cases of HGDN in a non-cirrhotic young patient should not be disregarded. Even though, it difficult to differentiate HGDN from early HCC based on radiologic imaging and histopathological criteria. Early diagnosis accompanied with proper surgical intervention such as anatomic resection and regular surveillance should be considered in the course and management of these patients, despite its rarity
