1. It is a reliable nitroglycerin (NTG) form influencing circulation and haemodynamics like other nitroglycerin products, 2. It is easily applicable, 3. Its use is advantageous especially for the prevention of pressure elevation occurring in response to physical exercise thus for the prevention of effort angina as well, 4. It is a reliable drug to be used in haemodynamic laboratories for measuring nitroglycerin effect, 5. Due to the rapidly developing fall of end diastolic pressure caused by the product it is also of value in controlling cardiac asthma attacks.

Forty-three patients suffering from acute or chronic urinary tract infections have been treated with pefloxacin at the Department of Urology of St. Istán Hospital. Twenty-three patients received oral doses (2 x 400 mg), 1 tabl. in the mornings and 1 in the evenings. Eighteen patients were given 2 x 1 intravenous ampoule (2 x 400 mg) dissolved in 250 ml 5% glucose in slow drip infusion. Both the oral and intravenous doses were given in the patients for 10 days. In two patients complications was observed--in one case rhagades were formed on the lip and face due to photo-sensibilization, in the other case the drug administration had to be discontinued because of nausea and vomiting. These symptoms ceased after the discontinuance of the drug. The clinical conditions, the routes of administration, clinical and bacteriological results are summarized in tables. On the basis of a low number of cases it has been concluded that pefloxacin is a new valuable antibacterial drug the use of which resulted in recovery in 15 out of 18 patients' acute and chronic infections of the urogenital system.

Budesonide-containing Apulein ointment has been used for the treatment of 29 women suffering from vulvitis, pruritus vulvae caused by vaginal discharge, gestational inflamed hemorrhoid, hymenitis, and late postoperative suture inflammation. The ointment rapidly and completely controlled local infiltration and the accompanying subjective complaints. It did not cause local alteration, the consistency of the ointment met the requirements and it did not disturb the patients' making their toilet. According to the author's opinion the product is a potent antiphlogistic which proved to be a valuable adjuvant to target specific treatment of inflammatory processes of the external female genital organs and perianal regions.

The hemodynamics influencing effect of Nitromint sublingual tablet and aerosol (EGIS Pharmaceuticals) has been examined in 22 ischaemic heart disease patients during heart catheterisation. The patients were hospitalized and took also the earlier prescribed drugs. On the basis of the results of examinations it may be concluded that Nitromint aerosol has a therapeutic action comparable to other short-acting nitrate preparations such as sublingual nitroglycerin tablet. According to the observations of the patients the drug action develops within a significantly shorter period. Considering the type of side-effects there was no difference between the two drug forms. Primarily, Nitromint tablet caused systemic effects (headache, dizziness, throbbing head) while aerosol caused predominantly local symptoms (burning of the tongue, disagreeable taste). These effects were only temporary and ceased within 10 minutes. According to the above described observations Nitromint aerosol may successfully be used as a new nitroglycerin containing drug form in all forms of angina pectoris: in rest angina, effort angina, as a prophylaxis, in mixed type angina pectoris, as a first-aid in emergency cases in acute left heart failure, preceding the application of infusion.

The terms "postmarketing surveillance" or "human phase IV studies" are applied to all those examinations which are performed with a drug following its registration. The principles, methods of these examinations are discussed on the basis of international experiences. The authors also give some examples from Hungarian practice referring to this subject. They consider postmarketing examinations to be as important as the clinical pharmacological examinations preceding the introduction of a drug. The usefulness, role of a drug in the therapy may be definitely determined on the basis of the results of these studies.

On the basis of our examinations it may be stated that the new product of EGIS Pharmaceuticals Nitromint aerosol seems to be effective and well tolerable in the course of clinical examinations. The drug action develops significantly more rapidly as compared to Nitromint tablet. Significant difference was not found when comparing the duration of action of the two products. The adverse effects are the same as the undesired effects of other short-acting nitrate preparations. Mostly local unwanted effects were observed. It can be recommended in all forms of angina pectoris for controlling pain syndrome and in effort angina for prophylactic purposes. In acute left heart failure it may be used in urgent cases. Because of its effectiveness and easy applicability the patients prefer Nitromint aerosol to Nitromint tablet.

In the majority of cases iron deficiency of infancy and early childhood is caused by nutritional factors. Among diseases, absorption disorders are the most frequent causes of iron deficiency. Tardyferon has been used for controlling iron deficiency in 21 children younger than two years of age not suffering from malabsorption and in 38 children suffering from coeliac disease. At the onset of the disease 71% of coeliac disease patients suffered from iron deficiency. The normalization of iron metabolism of these patients could be achieved with oral treatment of 5-6 mg Fe++/kg/day of 3-6 months. Iron deficiency of patients with initially normal ferritin level developed as a result of the intensive weight gain occurring in response to the gliadin-free diet. After the patients had been put on a gliadin containing diet again, hyposiderosis also occurred more frequently. Tardyferon therapy was well tolerated by the patients, in the infants taking bébé-Tardyferon difficulties of dosage or notable side-effects were not observed.

The effectivity of two topical steroids, Apulein cream and Hydrocortisone ointment, was compared in women suffering from vulvitis and other superficial inflammations. The basic properties of budesonide and data from references have been discussed. In the examined cases Apulein cream proved to be a more effective and more rapidly acting antiphlogistic as compared to Hydrocortisone ointment. The adjuvant and symptomatic role of corticosteroid therapy and the importance of adequate target-specific treatment in cases of infection is emphasized.

Forty patients with various neoplastic syndromes received domperidon as a drug reducing nausea and vomiting. The drug prevents in the daily dose of 30 mg completely the occurrence of nausea and vomiting in 30% of the patients and in 58% considerably reduces their intensity. The dose of 60 mg abolishes nausea and vomiting in 60% of the patients and alleviates in 35%. The drug had been administered through the whole period of chemotherapy without any side effects which may be attributed to its antagonist action to dopamine.

The observations with Norcuron (Richter) injection used for muscle relaxation in the course of 204 obstetrical-gynaecological operations have been discussed. In the majority of cases Caesarean section was performed, the other interventions were major operations. Norcuron proved to be a neuro-muscular blocking agent which has no cardiovascular side-effects, has a medium duration of action, and may be repeatedly administered according to requirement without risk of cumulation. It may be combined with other anaesthetics, its action may be successfully antagonized, and the drug has no postoperative after-effects. The Apgar scores of the newborns remained within the normal ranges.
