This research was carried out to determine the morphological characteristics of the Muradiye kelebek pigeon, which is one of our indigenous animal genetic resources. For this purpose, a total of 73 pigeons (35 male and 38 female) were examined from six breeders. Male pigeons were higher than the female pigeons in terms of trunk length (P < 0.001), head width (P < 0.05), beak length (P < 0.001), beak depth (P < 0.05), thoracic perimeter (P < 0.001), and tarsus diameter (P < 0.001). The body weight, chest width and thoracic perimeter of age group II were higher than those of age group I (P < 0.05; P < 0.01; P < 0.001). In terms of head structure, the Muradiye kelebek pigeons resemble Muradiye dönek, Bursa oynarı, Thrace roller, Alabadem, and Edremit kelebek pigeon genotypes. In addition, the plumage color of spotted in Muradiye kelebek pigeons, the plumage color of jackal in Thrace rollers, the plumage color of speckled in Edremit Kelebek pigeons, and the red/black galaca in Muradiye dönek pigeons may be mutual traits of these four pigeon genotypes. Therefore, the degree of kinship among Muradiye kelebek pigeons and the five pigeon genotypes (Muradiye dönek, Alabadem, Bursa oynarı, Thrace roller, Edremit kelebek pigeons) should be determined by genetic studies.

A 1-year-old Green iguana (Iguana iguana) was presented to the clinics with a complaint of a slowly growing mass on the left mandible, at the same time symptoms of weakness and loss of appetite for several weeks. In the clinical examination, it was noted that the mass was quite firm, invasive to the region, and had a necrotic appearance. It was removed by surgical operation and sent to the laboratory for investigation. In the microbiological evaluation, Citrobacter freundii was isolated and identified very intensely.

Poxviruses are among the most important diseases for humanity. An important triumph was achieved with the eradication of smallpox defined by the World Health Organization in 1979. There are many viruses in the poxvirus family that are pathogenic for both humans and other creatures. Some of these disease agents contain zoonotic potential. The family include non-zoonotic agents, such as sheep and goat pox are important disease. Smallpox viruses with zoonotic potential are among the diseases that are neglected because they do not cause epidemics. Recently, however, increased monkeypox cases the public attention in this family has rose up again. Therefore, it is aimed to write down a review that gives information about monkeypox, cowpox, vaccine, bovine papular stomatitis, orf, pseudocowpox, gray seal pox and red deer viruses.

The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of visual, radiologic, and near-infrared light transillumination caries detection methods on caries of dog teeth in-vitro. A total of 237 dog molar teeth were evaluated with three different methods; visio-tactile examination with a probe, radiographic assessment, and NIR-LT. Each tooth was evaluated with all of the methods; the absence or presence of occlusal caries was scored either 0, caries not present, or 1, caries present. All caries detection methods yielded the same outcomes for each tooth. Among all caries detection methods positive Spearman’s rho value (ϱ=1) indicated that there was a strong positive correlation between the caries detection methods. Since NIR-LT is such a comfortable and easy caries diagnosis method, it can be used without sedation, especially in calm dogs.

In this study, pre-chemotherapy hematological values of 14 dogs diagnosed with diffuse B-cell small lymphocytic lymphoma were compared with the hematological data of 26 healthy dogs. Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), lymphocyte/monocyte ratio (LMR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and platelet/neutrophil ratio (PNR) were evaluated between two groups. Anemia and an increased total leukocyte count were observed in dogs with lymphoma compared to healthy ones. The PNR value was found to be significantly lower in dogs with lymphoma, It was concluded that more comprehensive studies studies are needed to clearly understand the diagnostic and prognostic importance of hematological parameters in B-cell small lymphocytic lymphoma of dogs.

The aim of this research was to examine the effects of forskolin and PGE2 on steroid synthesis in goat luteal cells cultured at early and late corpus luteum. Therefore, the luteal cells removed from both stage of corpus luteum were cultured with newborn calf serum for the first 18 h. Then, media was changed and different concentrations of forskolin (10, 100ng/ml) or PGE2 (10, 100ng/ml) were added to the fresh media for another 96 h. The culture media was replaced every 48 h and the retrieved media was kept frozen at -20 °C until hormone analysis. Luteal cells treated with forskolin produced a higher production of progesterone in a dose-dependent manner, compare to the control well at early and late stage of corpus luteum. Lower dose of PGE2 increased the progesterone secretion in luteal cells compare to the control groups at the late stage of corpus luteum but not at early stage. The cells treated with higher dose of PGE2 had no significant effect on progesterone synthesis at early and late phase of goat corpus luteum in comparison to control groups. As a result, this study in goat shows that forskolin promotes progesterone synthesis of the luteal cells at the early and late corpus luteum, but PGE2 is only effective in cells treated with low dose at the late stage.

In this study, cases of cutaneous clear cell adnexal carcinoma were diagnosed on the right forepaw of a 6-year-old female dog and on the right hind paw of an 8-year-old male dog. On the cytological examination, scattered cell groups were seen on the hemorrhagic background, whose cytoplasmic borders could hardly be distinguished. Although the cells showed marked pleomorphism but were generally oval, round, or spindle-shaped. Anisokaryosis, karyomegaly, and one or more prominent nucleoli were noted in the nuclei. Pseudoinclusions were found in some cell nuclei. Histologically, it was centrally necrotic, expansive growth consisting of lobular areas in the dermis. The neoplastic cells consisted of oval round-shaped epithelioid cells with clear cytoplasm showing marked anisocytosis, anisorkaryosis and karyomegally. Nuclei were oval or round in shape with prominent nucleoli. Cystic changes and calcified areas in layers (psammoma bodies) were noted in these areas. Few mitoses were found. In the immunohistochemical examination, tumor cells were positive for vimentin, S-100, MART1 (Melan A), and cytokeratin (MNF116) and negative for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and smooth muscle actin (SMA). Based on these findings and results, the tumors were diagnosed as canine clear cell adnexal carcinoma. According to the literature review, this is the first case in which we found psammoma bodies and nuclear pseudo inclusions on microscopic examination of canine cutaneous clear cell adnexal carcinoma.

The quality of research and publication of journals published in the profession is important. It is considered one of the most important pieces of evidence showing the development of that profession. It was aimed to examine the research and publication ethics policies of the journals, which are basically professional journals and continue to publish in the field of veterinary medicine science and reveal the current situation. Within the scope of the study, journals publishing in the field of veterinary sciences were searched through DergiPark, the Web of Science database, and their websites. The features of these journals, indexical to which they are indexed, statements about research-publication ethics, and the national and international academic institutions they are members of were gathered under appropriate headings. The data obtained were examined, and their analysis was carried out. It was determined that 12% (n:3) of the veterinary journals in Turkey were indexed within the scope of SCI-E, 4% (n:1) were indexed within the scope of E-SCI, 60% (n:15) were university journals, 44% (n:11) published two issues per year, and 56% (n:14) of the publication language were Turkish and English. As a result, it can be said that the number and quality of publications journals in the field of veterinary science have increased in recent years, they comply with the criteria of “national peer-reviewed journal”, and in many parameters, TR Index complies with the COPE and ICMJE criteria, the principles of which are adopted. However, there is no common standard for the journals.
