Study trips and fieldwork in sloveniantourism studies: experience from Turstica
Pub Date : 2022-01-01 DOI: 10.35666/23038950.2022.47.83
The education system in Slovenia is generally supportive of study trips or school excursions, which are organised already at primary and secondary school level to give the pupils and students an additional opportunity to learn about their homeland and neighbouring regions/countries. Study trips and fieldwork are an essential form of the study process in Slovenian higher education as well. This is especially true for the field of geography and its related disciplines. The review of higher education programmes of tourism studies (in the period before the COVID-19 pandemic) shows the importance of practical training and acquiring different competencies through study trips and fieldwork – either while learning about business tourism systems or tourist offer in the selected destinations. In paper, we focus on the experiences of conducting study trips and fieldwork at the University of Primorska, Faculty of Tourism Studies - Turistica, which stands as the only higher education institution in Slovenia with a degree in tourism at all three levels (BSc, MA and PhD). Study trips are an integral part of the curriculum, especially in the first cycle programmes, dominated by the cultural tourism study programme, where humanistic views and approaches in tourism take substantial part (e.g., anthropology, ethnology and geography). At Turistica, various study trips and fieldwork take place, ranging from one-day or two-day excursions in the local and regional environment or across Slovenia, to multi-day study tours abroad. The most complex example is a one-week study trip to Prague and Berlin, which is a study to which we pay special attention in the paper. It is a successful model of fieldwork, which will, with appropriate modifications, also be used as a model for shaping and arranging the future study trip of Turistica’s students to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Models for integration of Croatian Intangible Cultural Heritage into the tourism supply
Pub Date : 2022-01-01 DOI: 10.35666/23038950.2022.47.51
Intangible cultural heritage has transformed itself increasingly into tourism products since the establishment of the UNESCO Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008. Croatia recognised the cultural value of its intangible heritage early on, which is confirmed by 18 listed assets on one of the three lists under the UNSECO’s protection. The aim of the research is to develop models for the integration of Croatian intangible cultural heritage protected by UNESCO into the tourism supply. For this purpose, Croatian intangible cultural assets are divided into four categories: 1) knowledge and skills, 2) musical expressions, 3) customs, rituals and traditional manifestations, and 4) traditional crafts. The model proposed for each category is based on the tourist motivation and the main activities that intangible cultural heritage can stimulate in tourists, as well as on the tourism products through which intangible cultural assets can be included in the tourism supply of destinations.

Regional-geographic concept of the development of tourism in the Una-Sana Mesoregion Una-Sana
Pub Date : 2022-01-01 DOI: 10.35666/23038950.2022.46.87
The Una-Sana mesoregion is part of the Peripannon macroregion of Bosnia and Herzegovina and as such is characterised by specific geographical characteristics. It is precisely from the geographical characteristics of the analysed area that the tourist motives arose, as a result of mutual natural-geographical and social-geographical characteristics of the area. The subject of the research is the identification of lesser-known tourist motives of the Una-Sana mesoregion. Tourist motives are actually the most important drivers of tourism and tourist movements in general. The goal of the research is to show the real picture of tourist motives by analysing all elements of tourist valorisation (location, compatibility, construction). Also, a special goal is to determine the courses of action that can be taken in order to increase their overall tourist value. The identification and valorisation of tourist motives of the Una-Sana mesoregion is based on field research and the application of modern geo-information technologies. The implemented methodological procedure will give an insight into the real picture of the tourist development of the Una-Sana mesoregion.

The World Urban Forum held eleven sessions of the global urban forum from 2002 to 2022. Modelled after the global urban forum, other urban forums take place before the global forum. Two urban forums were held in the Balkan countries in line with recommendations of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme UN Habitat in order to improve communication among diverse stakeholders in the area of urban development and prepare them for participation in the global urban forum. Experiences of Marmara region in Turkey and Serbia are shared in this paper to explain how the interaction between the global and other urban forums can open the way to improvement of urban development activities. The results could become more evident in the future since there could be more urban forums organized to take place in the Balkans.

The Baranya/Baranja border region
Pub Date : 2022-01-01 DOI: 10.35666/23038950.2022.47.97
With the EU accession of Croatia in 2013, Hungary's longest non-EU border to date became an internal EU border. Its land border section cuts through Baranya county, the northern larger part of which belongs to Hungary while the southern smaller part to Croatia. The latter is confined by rivers (Danube, Drava) and state borders (Hungarian and Serbian), thus forming a unique, isolated region within Croatia, lacking real internal centres. We argue, after investigating several geographical aspects of Baranya/Baranja, that ongoing developments may lead to further integration of the border region.

In 2022, the Department of Geography, Tourism and Hotel Management, Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad is celebrating an important anniversary - 60 years of existence. This marks six decades of student education and development of study programs, scientific achievements and aspirations, spreading knowledge, cooperation with the economy, and all for the benefit of society as a whole. The department went through periods of great challenges, and it drew its greatest strength from a solid, primordial connection with space and people. The development of geographical thought, tourism as a scientific discipline and education in both areas, especially in Vojvodina, is inextricably linked to the Department of Geography, Tourism and Hotel Management - through staff training, research, publishing and work on significant projects. The study programs have kept pace with the times, accelerating the pace accompanied by the growth of quality every day and reflecting its place as a distinguished scientific and educational institution. The department, as well as the entire University of Novi Sad, has been involved in intensive processes of adaptation to international teaching and research standards in recent decades. Reform of the study system, inclusion in international research and study programs represent a challenge both for professors and researchers alike, as well as for society as a whole.

The paper presents new data on the distribution of 12 species of Zygaena in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Some of the examined specimens collected in 2001 identified as Zygaenaminos, Z. transalpina, Z. brizae were previously cited in the literature on a limited number of localities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. New data for the Zygaena species were recorded at localities in central Bosnia and the Čvrsnica mountain area. Distribution analysis and niche modeling for the species Zygaenaangelicae and Z. transalpina determined that Zygaena transalpine has a narrower distribution in Bosnia and Herzegovina compared to Zygaenaangelicae. It can be determined that the variables Annual Mean Temperature and Mean Temperature of Wettest Quarter in both cases have a high influence on the formation of the model of the potential distribution of species. Habitat suitability mostly depended on the minimum temperature of the coldest month and seasonal precipitation for Zygaenaangelicae and Z. transalpina.
