The relationship between chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters and yield components in sunflower hybrids 向日葵杂交种叶绿素a荧光参数与产量成分的关系

The sunflower is considered one of the four most important oilseeds globally. The study was conducted on 16 sunflower hybrids in field conditions to link photosynthesis parameters with yield components using chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters (ChlF), chlorophyll content, leaf temperature and agronomic traits. By analysing the ChlF parameters in the flowering stage of sunflower hybrids, a statistically significant difference was found between the studied hybrids for all the ChlF parameters except for the photosynthetic efficiency index of energy required from exciton to the reduction of ultimate electron acceptors on photosystem I (PItotal). At the same time, the results confirmed the significance of the chlorophyll content, leaf temperature, and agronomic traits for the studied hybrids. The indicators of photosynthetic efficiency showed a significant correlation between the efficiency with which the electron can reduce the final electron acceptors to photosystem I (RE0/ET0), PItotal and plant height. Also, the number of seeds per head showed a positive and very significant correlation with variable fluorescence in step I (VI) and a very highly significant negative correlation with the energy flow which reduces electron end acceptors on the acceptor side of photosystem I (RE0/RC). Using these analyses in sunflower breeding programmes could improve productivity and performance optimisation under changeable growing conditions.

New epiphytic bryophyte communities from Turkey 标题土耳其附生苔藓植物新群落

The epiphytic bryophyte vegetation of the Kumbet Plateau (Dereli-Giresun) was investigated. A total of 40 releves taken from tree trunks in different vegetation periods of the year 2019 were analysed using multivariate analysis methods such as detrended correspondence analysis (DECORANA) and two-way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN), and the Braun-Blanquet method was also applied. As a result, Frullanio tamarisci-Neckeretum pumilae Alata?, Ezer, Batan & Erata ass. nov. and Frullanio tamarisci-Neckeretum pumilae-isothecietosum alopecuroidis Alata?, Ezer, Batan & Erata subass. nov. were described as new syntaxa from Turkey. In addition, Ulotetum crispae-sanionietosum uncinatae was recorded for the first time from Turkey, while Ulotetum crispae was recorded for the second time from Turkey. These syntaxa were analysed in terms of their ecological and floristic aspects.

A new species, Geastrum juliae, is described from Primorsky Krai in the Russian Far East. Based on the analysis of sequences retrieved from GenBank, this taxon is also found in China. The closest species is G. rubellum based on morphology and phylogenetics. We present the new species with illustrated descriptions and molecular data.

Boron toxicity tolerance in barley may be related to intrinsically higher levels of reactive oxygen species in the shoots 大麦对硼的耐受性可能与芽部活性氧含量较高有关

There is considerable intra-and interspecific variation in boron (B) toxicity tolerance in crop plants. In this study, we aimed to investigate the mechanisms involved in tolerance to excess B in barley (Hordeum vulgare) in the early stages of plant development. To do this, B-sensitive (B?lb?l-89) and B-tolerant (Tarm-92) barley cultivars were grown hydroponically under control and B stress conditions (10 mM H3BO3) for 4 or 7 days. The hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), malondialdehyde (MDA), total phenolic, total flavonoid, anthocyanin, proline, and total sugar contents, as well as DPPH radical scavenging capacity, were then determined for both cultivars. Our results showed that B treatment led to significant increases in the B concentration of the barley cultivars for both exposure times. However, there were no drastic differences in the B concentration of the roots and shoots between the sensitive and tolerant cultivars. While the dry root weight of B?lb?l-89 was reduced after 7 days of B stress (p < 0.05), such a decrease was not observed in Tarm-92. The H2O2, MDA, proline, total sugar, and anthocyanin contents of both cultivars increased considerably in response to excess B during at least one treatment period (p < 0.05). The H2O2 content of Tarm-92 under control and B stress conditions was significantly greater than that of B?lb?l-89, but there was no difference in the MDA content and radical scavenging capacity between the two cultivars. Finally, a 35% increase was found in the total flavonoid content of the Tarm-92 seedlings exposed to B stress for 4 days. In conclusion, the findings of this study suggest that tolerance to B toxicity in barley seedlings may be related to their capacity to tolerate higher levels of reactive oxygen species.

The antibacterial activity of culture filtrates and mycelia of selected strains of macromycetes from the genus Hericium 对猴头菌属大型菌培养滤液和菌丝的抑菌活性进行了研究

The aim of the study was to investigate the antibacterial activity of selected strains of the genus Hericium, belonging to basidiomycetes, from the IBK Mushroom Culture Collection of the M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. A total of 14 strains including H. abietis, H. cirrhatum, H. coralloides, and H. erinaceus were investigated. The strains were cultivated on a liquid glucose-peptone-yeast medium. Both the homogenised mycelium and filtrate of these fungi were evaluated against gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus, and Staphylococcus aureus) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) bacteria by the disk diffusion and cylinder methods. The activity of the strains varied significantly. Depending on the techniques assay, species, strain, and stage of fungal development, the inhibition zone of the tested bacteria ranged from 5.3 mm to 20.0 mm. In general, the antibacterial potential of the culture filtrates of the investigated species was significantly higher than their mycelia activity. The homogenised mycelium showed potentially good results only against E. coli. The antibacterial activities of the H. abietis and H. cirrhatum species were observed for the first time. To the best of our knowledge, the ability of H. coralloides to inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa and S. aureus has not been previously reported. The obtained results indicate the ability of the studied Hericium species to produce antibacterial metabolites with a wide and narrow spectrum of action which might have potential health benefits and could be recommended for the further analysis, isolation and identification of potentially promising antibacterial compounds in pharmacology.

Depending on the techniques assay, species, strain, and stage of fungal development, the inhibition zone of the tested bacteria ranged from 5.3 mm to 20.0 mm. In general, the antibacterial potential of the culture filtrates of the investigated species was significantly higher than their mycelia activity. The homogenised mycelium showed potentially good results only against E. coli. The antibacterial activities of the H. abietis and H. cirrhatum species were observed for the first time. To the best of our knowledge, the ability of H. coralloides to inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa and S. aureus has not been previously reported. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of different nickel concentrations and light in combination with storage conditions and storage time on the seed germination ability of two serpentine-endemic nickel hyperaccumulating species (Bornmuellera emarginata and B. tymphaea). The seeds of both species were collected from natural populations in the Pindus Mountain range, Greece in early July and stored in a refrigerator (4?C) and in laboratory conditions (22?C). The seeds were exposed to a range of nickel concentrations typical of non-ultramafic-ultramafic gradient in two light environments (12 h photoperiod and continuous darkness). The nickel concentration only had a significant effect on B. emarginata, decreasing its seed germination rate with increasing Ni concentrations. The storage temperature significantly affected the germination percentage of both species and it was higher at 4?C compared to 22?C. A higher germination rate (> 60%) was observed for 5-8-month-old seeds, but both species generally showed significantly higher germination rates in the tests conducted seven months after seed ripening in the field. A higher germination rate was observed in a 12-hour photoperiod than in continuous darkness only for B. tymphaea. This study provides guidelines on the germination capacity of two obligate nickel hyperaccumulators with a potential for use in agromining systems.

In this study, we examined the effects of elicitors MeJA (Methyl jasmonate) and JA (Jasmonic acid) (50, 100, and 200 ?M) on the growth and production of 15 phenolic compounds in shoot cultures of Hypericum amblysepalum using the LC-MS/MS method. The biomass production increased on shoots elicited with 50 ?M JA and MeJA. However, higher concentrations of these elicitors had a negative effect on the growth of the shoot cultures, while simultaneously resulting in an increase in the secondary metabolite content. The elicitor MeJA (especially 200 ?M MeJA) was more effective in terms of increasing the phenolic compound contents. The highest amounts of rutin (2.8 fold), astragalin (2.4 fold), protocatechuic acid (2.4 fold), hesperidin (2 fold), pseudohypericin (1.9 fold), chlorogenic acid (1.4 fold), and hypericin (1.9 fold) were obtained from the shoots elicited with MeJA (200 ?M). In addition, the application of elicitor JA 200 ?M increased the amount of luteolin (2 fold), quercitrin (1.9 fold), apigetrin (4 fold), apigenin (2.9 fold), and hyperoside (1.3 fold). The current study revealed that specific secondary plant metabolites can be regulated by exogenous elicitors in shoot cultures of H. ambysepalum, thus highlighting their promise as a very valuable source of raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry.

Persicaria amphibia (subfam. Polygonoideae), an aquatic macrophyte rich in dietary polyphenolics, is used as a traditional remedy and culinary herb. Nevertheless, P. amphibia from the Balkan region has been insufficiently studied and underutilized. Here, the cytotoxicity and antimicrobial properties of the previously chemically characterised ethanol extract of P. amphibia aerial parts were tested. The following methods were carried out: the MTT assay, qRT-PCR, microdilution assay, Chromobacterium violaceum screening assay (monitoring of quorum sensing, QS) and the agar plating method (antifungal activity). The study was conducted to determine the cytotoxic effects of P. amphibia against lung cancer cells (A549) and its combination with cytostatic doxorubicin (Dox). A dose-dependent decrease in cell viability (up to 82% reduction) and additive interactions of the tested agents were noted. Both alone and combined with Dox, P. amphibia reduced the expression of Nrf2 (p < 0.05). In terms of antimicrobial effects, P. amphibia exhibited an antipathogenic effect since it disrupted QS communication, which was evident through the inhibition of violacein production of C. violaceum CV025. The antifungal screening revealed that P. amphibia induced significant growth inhibition of Aspergillus spp. (28.23%). Based on the obtained results, further examination of the potential use of P. amphibia in modern phytotherapy and diet-derived cancer chemoprevention is encouraged.
