Living with loss 带着失落生活

Each of us has a story that comes alive as we wake up in the morning, develops throughout the day, and holds layers of meaning as we lay our heads down at night – it might be called a narrative of our identity. When loss occurs, our story fragments into unfamiliar pieces, and who we identify as becomes scattered – sometimes even shattered. We must work to reconstruct meaning in our lives and to rebuild our identity. As leading author on this editorial, with an article of my own in this issue, I confronted this when my father died. I felt his story slipping away, becoming blurred, forgotten, and for some, erased – and the same held true for me. The chaos of my shattered identity exacerbated the deep pain of losing him and I experienced complicated grief. I had to reshape my narrative to remember the authentic parts of me and rebuild a new self in a fatherless world. This journey is in part what motivated me to become a symposium co-editor for the journal. All four of us editors of this special issue have experienced “living with loss” following the premature loss of either our father or spouse, and I wanted to see what lived experience and knowledge we could bring to the readers about loss in the fields of both guidance and counselling. In this issue of Living with Loss, the visible theme tying the articles together is learning how to support those impacted by death and non-death losses by allotting space for their stories, recovering meaning in their lives, and re-establishing an identity post-loss within their life narratives. Each article not only sheds light on the impact of devastating losses but also lights a path toward healing and rebuilding a coherent life story.

ABSTRACT After my father's death, writing became a tool to alleviate my suffering. Using evocative autoethnography, I examined if written, first-person storytelling that leaned on expressive writing techniques could help me actively process and effectively move through my complicated mourning. My data consisted of 41 stories (published as The Revelations of Eapen) that disclosed the cultural interactions of bereavement while narrating the wildness of prolonged grief. Removing myself as the protagonist, I looked at the writing through a scientific lens. I discovered the writing was constructed using two central themes, targeting bereavement: the art of storytelling and the four cornerstones of grief stories. This article explores my analysis, providing a framework for therapeutic storytelling that can be used to reconcile grief.

Post-racial unrest, #Blackintheivory and the US election: is multiculturalism still necessary? 后种族骚乱、“象牙黑”和美国大选:多元文化主义还需要吗?

ABSTRACT Multicultural discourse, when focusing on systemic racism/discrimination, has recently come under scrutiny. Despite the long history of multiculturalism in counselling and other helping fields, critics espouse multiculturalism does not work and increases racial problems. This criticism persists despite recent events such as the racial unrest in Summer 2020 (due to the killing of numerous unarmed Black people), #Blackintheivory movement and the racially-charged US presidential election. Opponents state these problems exacerbate partially due to an unbalanced focus on race. Proponents believe not enough emphasis on multiculturalism is a contributing factor. This conceptually-driven, dialectical article highlights evidence for and against multiculturalism by providing a critical overview of existing theoretical and empirical information for both. I conclude with the hope of an agreed-upon truth established through a systematic display of logical reasoning, utilising biology as a backdrop. Implications for the counselling field conclude the article.

Development of vocational gender stereotype attitudes scale (VGSA) for adolescents 青少年职业性别刻板印象态度量表的编制

ABSTRACT The study aimed to develop and evaluate the psychometrical properties of a new brief measure of gender stereotyping career attitudes. Participants were 222 early and 196 middle adolescents from Croatia. The Vocational Gender Stereotype Attitudes Scale (VGSA) consists of 12 items that represent masculine, feminine and gender-balanced activities obtained from the Personal Globe Inventory (PGI). The results showed the existence of the bifactor model and high internal reliability of VGSA scale in assessing gender stereotyping attitudes. Results also confirmed acceptable measurement invariance across gender and age groups. Moreover, no gender differences in general career gender stereotyping were found, while early adolescents show greater stereotype endorsement, which is in line with theoretical expectations and supports the construct validity of the scale.

Career sailboat: a model for enhancing career decision-making self-efficacy among job-seekers 职业帆船:提升求职者职业决策自我效能感的模型

ABSTRACT We examined the effects of a five-week psychoeducational programme based on the Career Sailboat model on career decision-making self-efficacy levels of Turkish university students in their job-seeking phase. Twenty-six university students were assigned to one of three groups: experimental group (EG) (n = 9), the placebo group (PG) (n = 7) and the control group (CG) (n = 10). The EG post-test scores were higher than that of the CG but not higher than that of the PG. Pre-test vs. post-test paired comparisons indicated a significant increase in career decision-making self-efficacy level only for the EG group. The use of a quantitative paradigm, specifically an experimental design, was supplemented by soliciting qualitative data as well. The findings based on the qualitative data support the quantitative findings.

Rewriting grief following bereavement and non-death loss: a pilot writing-for-wellbeing study 改写丧亲和非死亡损失后的悲伤:一项为健康而写作的试点研究

ABSTRACT This mixed-method Writing-for-wellbeing pilot study used a pre–post-follow-up design with 20 adults in two groups (10 in a bereaved group and 10 in a non-death/living losses group) to assess the feasibility, acceptability, and potential efficacy of a longitudinal writing intervention in helping participants to work through their grief. Participants completed measures of prolonged grief, adaptive coping, anxiety and depression, and meaning reconstruction. The qualitative analysis was based on a satisfaction questionnaire that included open-ended questions. The intervention was well-received, safe, and personally valuable. The bereaved group reported reductions in symptoms of anxiety, depression, and prolonged grief, and increases in adaptive meaning, help seeking, and spiritual support. The living losses group reported a decrease in help seeking.

Gratitude as a path to human prosperity during adverse circumstances: a narrative review 在逆境中,感恩是通往人类繁荣的道路:一种叙事回顾

ABSTRACT Although each person faces their own share of challenges, it is their individual perception and responses to these difficulties that determine how they are affected by them. In this paper we investigate the association between gratitude and human prosperity including the underlying mechanism that helps people thrive during trying circumstances. We survey the literature, examining how gratitude enables people to prosper amidst adversity and employ a narrative style to present these unique characteristics. This review suggests that gratitude enhances coping abilities, such as meaning-focused coping and positive reframing, which foster positive emotions and augment personal resources like resilience, perseverance, and social bonds. These elements, in turn, may possibly explain the association between gratitude and human prosperity during dire circumstances.

We survey the literature, examining how gratitude enables people to prosper amidst adversity and employ a narrative style to present these unique characteristics. This review suggests that gratitude enhances coping abilities, such as meaning-focused coping and positive reframing, which foster positive emotions and augment personal resources like resilience, perseverance, and social bonds. Meeting the psychological, social, and economic challenges of career transitions requires people to be increasingly flexible and hardy. In this article, we propose that envisioning one's life as a game can foster well-being, coping strategies, and success with career transitions. The SuperBetter approach (McGonigal, 2015. Superbetter: A revolutionary approach to getting stronger, happier, braver and more resilient. Penguin) is presented as a metaphor that can provide clients with a new perspective for their lives and career narratives. The way each component of this metaphor can contribute to individuals' well-being, motivation and success throughout career transitions is detailed. Implications for practice and research are discussed.

Sejak Pandemi Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) menyebar ke Indonesia, Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan (Kemendikbud) meminta seluruh perguruan tinggi menghentikan sementara pembelajaran tatap muka dan merubahnya menjadi pembelajaran daring, mahasiswa diminta untuk bisa mengatur diri dalam belajar pada masa Pandemi COVID-19. Dimana Mahasiswa yang termotivasi dengan belajar untuk meraih tujuan akan melibatkan  . Tujuan penelitian ini yaituapakah terdapat Hubungan motivasi belajar dengan self- regulated learning selama pembelajaran daring pada masa pandemi COVID 19 pada Mahasiswa Kedokteran Universitas Malahayati angkatan 2019. Jenis penelitian ini  adalah kuantitatif analitik observasional dengan metode cross sectional. Subjek penelitian ini adalah seluruh Mahasiswa Program Studi Kedokteran Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Malahayati Angkatan 2018. Alat ukur digunakan adalah Kuesioner Skala Motivasi Belajar dan Skala Regulasi diri. Hasil penelitian ini diketahui bahwa dari 107 responden Mahasiswa Kedokteran Umun Universitas Malahayati angkatan 2019 dengan tingkat Self-regulated Learning yang tinggi sebanyak 73 orang (68,2%) serta responden yang memiliki tingkat  yang Self-regulated Learning sedang sebanyak 34 orang (31,8%). Mahasiswa yang memiliki tingkat Motivasi Belajar tinggi sebanyak 45 orang (42,1%) serta responden yang memiliki tingkat Motivasi Belajar sedang sebanyak 62 orang (57,9%). Kesimpulannya adalah terdapat hubungan bermakna antara motivasi belajar dan self regulated learning (SRL) selama pembelajaran daring pada masa pandemic COVID-19 pada Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Umum Universitas Malahayati Angkatan 2019 dengan presentase sebesar 42%.

Manusia selalu membutuhkan orang lain dalam menjalani kehidupan dengan arti lain manusia hidup bergantung oleh orang lain. manusia selalu berinteraksi dengan orang lain. Dalam menjalani kehidupan, masyarakat tidak lepas dengan adanya masalah. Masalah selalu datang tanpa terduga. Konseling individu yaitu layanan bimbingan dan konseling yang memungkinkan peserta didik atau konseli mendapatkan layanan langsung tatap muka secara perseorangan dengan guru pembimbing dalam rangka pembahasan pengentasan masalah pribadi yang diderita konseli.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adakah terdapat pengaruh layanan konseling individu dengan menggunakan asas kerahasiaan terhadap masyarakat Desa Timbang Lawan serta mengentaskan masalah yang dihadapi klien. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dengan menggunakan instrumen berupa wawancara dan observasi. Responden penelitian dilakukan terhadap remaja Desa Timbang Lawan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa melalui layanan bimbingan konseling indiviud berpengaruh untuk keberlangsungan hidup karna dengan terselesaikannya masalah yang dihadapi, membuat individu menjadi kembali semangat dan percaya diri. Asas Kerahasiaan atau disebut dengan confidential merupakan perilaku konselor untuk  menjaga  rahasian segala data atau informasi tentang diri konseli berkenaan dengan pelayanan konseling.   Kata Kunci :  Layanan Konseling, Asas Kerahasiaan
