Lung cancer is the malignancy with the highest mortality rate worldwide. Its high mortality is mainly due to diagnostic delays leading to detection of the disease at an advanced stage. Therefore, prevention plays a key role in improving the overall survival of patients. The purpose of this article is to summarize the current status of lung cancer prevention in the Czech Republic and to provide a comprehensive view of current prevention programs.

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically affected spa and balneology not only in the Czech Republic. Generally, almost two years without spa patients and clients led to a dramatic outflow of labor. The article main purpose is to analyze pandemic impact on the structure of spa patients and clients, to identify main current spa problems to be overcome, and to summarize possible future trends in modern spa and balneology for current and future spa clients. Spa will remain an important medical solution for treatment of some diagnoses using healing mineral-medical waters and natural sources, but they must innovate their services and treating programs to answer current questions and clients 'demands. It will be a complex patient care combining body and mental treatment and care with the use of so-called therapeutic landscape, a unique landscape surrounding spa towns and places, as well as wellness aspects. Modern spa must be an integral part of health care systems in Europe.

The paper presents the outcomes of the WHO European Region research project, Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University which concerned Czech population behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Czech Republic the research was carried out in three waves on a representative sample of respondents using methodology of a questionnaire survey. The results showed that the risk perception in connection with the pandemic was low in the Czech environment, regardless of the growing number of infected and deceased. Optimism persisted about the perception of personal susceptibility to infection and self-efficacy. General wellbeing was above average after successfully coping with the first wave, but it decreased slightly in connection with the worsening of the pandemic situation. Compliance with preventive measures has been relatively low for a long time and the trend has been rather declining. By the time, it became increasingly difficult to understand the communication of state authorities regarding the measures being implemented, and trust in the media decreased. A positive finding was the increase in the proportion of those who tried to improve the lifestyle in connection with the pandemic.

Postoperative chylothorax is a well-known rare complication of thoracic surgery. It is a serious complication that is fatal in cases of inadequate treatment. The authors present 2 cases of postoperative chylothorax that were successfully treated by performing pedal and/or intranodal lymphography. In one case, the patient underwent lymphography after previous unsuccessful surgical ligation of the thoracic duct. The presented case reports describe therapeutic importance of conventional lymphography as a minimally invasive treatment of the postoperative chylothorax.

Hypoparathyroidism is a rare endocrine disease caused by an absence or insufficient production of parathormone. Parathormone deficiency leads to lower serum calcium concentration that is responsible for patients' neuromuscular symptoms. Conventional treatment consists of calcium and active vitamin D metabolites administration but doesn't constitute an adequate substitution of missing parathormone. Although the treatment substantially alleviates patients' troubles, chronic complications may develop because of hyperphosphatemia and conventional medication. Solution to this resides in recombinant parathormone administration, however the only one drug available is being now recalled from the market. The mainstay of hypoparathyroidism prevention is the judicious indication of total thyroidectomy representing the main cause of the disease.

Along with the development of medicine and new therapeutic methods, the options of tissue and organ transplantation are constantly evolving, which brings a whole range of ethical connotations. The paper presents the legislative requirements and ethical principles that should be followed in transplant medicine, as well as their mutual connection. The article focuses on the ethical aspects which occur in connection with tissue and organ procurement and transplantation in everyday practice. The article also deals with modern methods that are currently being intensively developed and, in the future, could be helpful in solving contemporary issues in the field of transplantation. This concerns the ethical context of xenotransplantation, and the possibility of using artificial intelligence technologies for ethical decision-making in transplant medicine.

In current medical and lay communication practice, the terms coloscopy and colonoscopy appear in parallel, and their usage is quite varied. The conclusion of the article is neither the form coloscopy nor the form colonoscopy is to be rejected. The final form depends on how the term got into Czech medical terminology - whether directly from Greek or via French (coloscopy) or through English (colonoscopy). As far as the professional-medical discourse is concerned, the article supports those opinions that recommend the unification of the first variant for professional medical practice, i.e. term coloscopy as a direct adaptation of the Greek word. However, regarding common practice in relation to patients, the fact that the term colonoscopy is more frequent and more familiar to users cannot be neglected; therefore, it cannot be rejected.

Negative pressure wound therapy is a generally accepted method of treating septic or secreting wounds. In contrast to that, postoperative application of negative pressure wound therapy to primarily closed surgical wounds is referred to as closed-incision negative-pressure wound therapy (Ci-NPWT). According to available sources, wounds after prophylactic application of Ci-NPWT show lower complication rates, especially wound infections, and dehiscence. The literature confirms that the Ci-NPWT technique improves healing of all surgical wounds, both septic and aseptic.

Psychosomatic medicine has undergone dynamic development in the Czech Republic in recent years. The Society of Psychosomatic Medicine of the Czech Medical Association of J. E. Purkyně was founded in 2014. It develops both the professional side of this field and strives for better integration of psychosomatic care into the Czech health care system. After several years of effort, it succeeded in obtaining approval of the medical procedure code in the field of psychosomatics (909) "psychosomatic intervention". The text of Recommended Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures for Psychosomatic Care describes the recommended movement of the psychosomatic patient through the health care system, diagnostic categories in psychosomatic medicine and related differential diagnosis, and basic diagnostic units in psychosomatic medicine.
