This study is a define phase of 4D model used in Research and Development (R&D) that aims to explore initial concept of grade XI students on acid-base topic before studying the material. Instrument used in this study was a two-tiered diagnostic test in the form of multiple-choice questions with choice of reasons that consisted of 16 items. The test was given to 100 grade XI students from various schools in West Sumatra. Students answers were processed by grouping them into 3 categories: understand, have misconceptions and do not understand. Data were then analyzed descriptively by calculating the percentage of students' learning difficulties in all of competency achievement indicators that had been compiled. The results showed that students had difficulty in understanding some concepts of acid base such as acid base theory of Arrhenius (75.2%), of Bronsted-Lowry (81.43%), and of Lewis (100%); pH (94.04%); and acid base ionization constant (97.33%). Results of this research are then used as a consideration in the development of acid-base module designed for grade XI Senior High School learning.

Integral is one of major topics in Calculus course. Many university students fail in calculus course because their understanding on the concept of Integral especially in understanding definition of integral is low. This situation encourages us to design a calculus lesson to build students understanding on Integral especially integral definition by using Realistic Mathematics Education as an approach. For that, we try to design a series of instructional activities starting from introducing sigma to definition of Integral in order to know students difficulties in understanding this topic. Some first-year university students in Universitas Negeri Padang are chosen to test our Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) in our preliminary research. The result is students had difficulties in connecting the sigma, area and definition of integral. This happens because the students did not see that the activities that have been designed as a whole that cannot be separated. Therefore, it is recommended to design a series of instructional activities which is focus on connecting sigma, area and definition of integral.

Teachers success in implementing learning depends on the insight, knowledge, understanding and creativity level in managing teaching materials. One form to process subject matter is by using the module. Module oriented Mind map (MM) equipped with Words Guess game will become more interesting and can develop students interest and creativity. The development of this module must pass the validity test stage by the validator before it is used in the learning process. The purpose of this research is to know the developed validity of Biology Learning Module, which orients Mind map (MM) equipped with a Words Guess game in class VIII SMP. This research is a development research (Research and Development) using 4-D model consisting of 4 stages of define, design, develop, and disseminate. By far, this research only reaches the development stage which is at validity test phase. Based on validity test results by 4 validates indicate that developed learning module Biology oriented Mind map with Words Guess variation is a very good category to be used in the learning process.
