We present detailed measurements of the Henry factor (linewidth enhancement factor) above and below threshold of a quantum dot laser. Modulation frequency and current dependence of the above-threshold method based on modulation experiments is shown.

We report the growth of self-organized InAs/Sb:GaAs quantum dots (QDs) on silicon (Si) substrate by Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD). High density QDs aligned along [0-11] direction was obtained. These QDs exhibit ground state emission at 1.3 mum at room temperature (RT).

MOCVD grown self-assembled quantum dot using dilute nitrogen material system (GaInNAs) is presented for GaAs-based long wavelength VCSELs. Suppression of Coalescence and inhomogeneous broadening by incorporating nitrogen into dot structure is particularly discussed.

Photonic crystals, in which the refractive index changes periodically, provide an exciting new tool for the manipulation of photons and have received a keen interest from a variety of fields. In this presentation. I will describe present status of such manipulations of photons by photonic crystals.

We achieved slow light of 8.3 pulses of a 12-ps pulse in a series cascade of QW-SOAs in a loop configuration. The linear relationship between the number of optical passes through the SOA and time delay is experimentally demonstrated.

We demonstrate that optical activity for the zeroth-order transmitted light is extraordinarily enhanced in metal and dielectric planar chiral nanogratings by plasmon or waveguide resonance. This method can be used for THz applications.
