The one-dimensional dielectric photonic crystals with complex defect layers, consisting of ultrathin superconducting and dielectric sublayers are theoretically studied. The pronounced difference in the transmittivity spectra of the photonic crystals with right-handed and left-handed positions of the superconducting defect sublayer with respect to the dielectric defect sublayer is demonstrated. The transmittivity spectra of the x-polarized and y-polarized modes exhibit different behaviour with variation of the temperature and the superconducting sublayer thickness.

A fractal-like (Cantor-like) stratified structure of chiral and achiral isotropic layers is considered. Peculiarities of the wave localization, scalability and sequential splitting in the reflected field of both co-polarized and cross-polarized components are studied. The appearing of the additional peak multiplets in stopbands is revealed, and a correlation of their properties with chirality parameter is established.

The behaviour of a scalar optical beam at the boundary between two dissimilar nonlinear media is of fundamental interest in photonics. Here, we report the first systematic generalization of our Kerr analyses to a wider class of power-law materials. Universal refraction laws will be given, and theory-simulation agreement demonstrated.

The nonresonant scattering of a photon by an electron (Compton scattering) in the field of a pulsed light wave is investigated theoretically. The approximation when a pulsewidth is considerably greater than the characteristic time of the wave oscillation is considered. The analytical expressions for the amplitude and cross-section of mentioned process are derived. It is concluded, that the total cross-section of scattering of a photon by an electron in the field of pulsed light wave differs essentially from the cross-section of Compton scattering in the field of plane monochromatic wave.

Two types of superluminescent diodes (SLDs) based on DQW (InGa)As/(GaAl)As/GaAs nanostructures with 25 µm-width multimode active channels emitting at 890 nm and 950nm were studied. They ensure CW optical power of more than 100 mW ex standard 50 µm multimode fiber (MMF).

Spontaneous emission of a quantum dot placed in a 1D photonic band gap structure is analytically studied. Part of energy which remains nonradiated is obtained. It is shown that decay first follows ∼t−1/2 law changing to ∼t−3/2 law. Analytical expression for the spectrum is obtained. Analytical theory of the Borrmann effect is developed.

Structural parameters and physical properties are considered for >100 presently known simple and binary acentric telluride crystals. Distribution of the crystals over point symmetry groups has been defined in comparison with that of selenides. A rosette of ellipses of acentricity has been outlined on the plane of the shortest chemical bond lengths metal-tellurium in the crystal lattice. A set of elements most promising for pronounced nonlinear optical properties has been reported.

Double-charge femtosecond vortices were synthesized with the polarization-singularity beam converter [1]. The vortex was focused using moderate and high numerical aperture optics (NA = 0.45 and 0.9) to ablate fused silica and soda-lime glasses. The results demonstrate that the ablation can be controlled on a sub-micrometer scale with a high degree of repeatability.

The surface plasmon-polaritons and waveguide modes in prismatic structures are researched. The metallic layer is deposited on glass prism in the first structure and dielectric layer was deposited on metallic film in the second structure. The reflectance from the metallic layer equal zero at assiduously defined parameters. The first structure has high sensitivity of the minimum reflection angle; the second structure has high sensitivity of the reflectance from change refractive index of the liquid.
