Stimulated emission from quantum dots arrays has been observed under optical pumping. The emission has been observed from the ground state for electrons (λ ≈ 1.31 µm) and from two higher levels (λ ≈ 1.21 µm, 1.12 µm). The measured values of the amplification coefficient are rather high, up to 15 ÷ 17 cm−1. Procedure of the amplification coefficient measurements in the active media has been discussed.

Spectral characteristics of the microcavity based on a free-standing mesoporous silicon layered structure containing nematic liquid crystal E7 are studied. Nonlinear thermal tuning of resonant peak position has been realized by both conventional and laser heating. In both cases reversible tuning is observed within 11 nm range. Laser beam with power of 100 mW provides total tuning of the microcavity.

Nonlinear-optical response of metal-alkanoates anisotropic glasses based on cobalt-alkanoate was studied using method of the dynamic holography. Fundamental optical (refractive index n and absorption coefficient α) and nonlinear-optical (nonlinear susceptibilities χ(3) and polarizabilities γNL) parameters of the mesomorphic glasses based on cobalt-alkanoates can be tuned via varying chain length anion (interlayer distance of homologous lines) andor by changing of the cation composition (exploiting binary or ternary systems).

We consider formation of ultrashort quasi-parabolic pulses in conventional silica fibers both in the near and far fields of dispersion. Through solution of nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation we show that in case of high soliton order N the optical wave breaking effect, occurring in optical fibers during ultrashort pulse propagation, is canceled in the far field of dispersion. This is accompanied by nonlinear pulse reshaping from initial Gaussian shape towards nearly parabolic pulse with almost linear chirp. We suppose that this process is associated with relaxing conditions required for optical shock formation. Divergence of the resulted pulse shape from the parabolic one is quantitatively examined. Optimal conditions for soliton order and fiber length required for nearly parabolic shape formation is given for case of low N.

Theoretical model of how LBIC signal from p-n junction being scanned by two laser beams is formed was proposed. Physical effects which make impact in overall phase of the LBIC signal were pointed out. Experimental research of illuminating surface of laser diode was conducted. Experimental dependencies of the phase of LBIC signal on the coordinate of scanning laser beams were obtained. Possibilities of how differential-phase method can be used to inspect semiconductor surfaces with p-n junctions were analyzed.

Optical properties of both symmetrical and asymmetrical modified Fibonacci structures of chiral and achiral isotropic layers are studied. The localization and polarization transformation of linearly polarized waves are considered. The effect of the phase shift compensation in the reflected field is shown in the case of an asymmetrical modified Fibonacci multilayer.

Resonant spontaneous bremsstrahlung by an electron scattered by a nucleus in the field of pulsed light wave is theoretically investigated. The bremsstrahlung cross section contains a resonant peak. It is demonstrated, that the resonant cross section of the spontaneous bremsstrahlung may be several orders of magnitude greater than the corresponding cross section in the external field absence. Obtained results may be experimentally verified, for example, by scientific facility of SLAC laboratory.

We study de nonlinear optical properties of three ionic liquids of family [BMIM]. The ionic liquids are 1-buthyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, 1-buthyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoroacetate, and 1-buthyl-3-methylimidazolium Bis((trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl)imide. We calculate the static molecular polarizability (α) and hyperpolarizability (β,γ) using PM3 model and determinate experimentally the third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility χ(3), using z-scan technique. Interest in nonlinear optics has grown in recent years. High performance electro-optic switching elements for telecommunications and optical information processing are based on materials with high nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. This NLO are presents when a laser interacts with the materials, and can be studied at to levels: molecular o bulk.

We analyze the VIPA demultiplexer for different reflection profiles, i.e., uniform, graded, and Gaussian. It is shown that VIPA demultiplexer characteristics can be improved dramatically by innovative reflection profile engineering. These improvements enhance the performance of demultiplexers in UWB-Over-Fiber systems.
