Abstract The objective of this study was to adapt and verify the psychometric properties of the Fear of COVID-19 Scale and Coronavirus Anxiety Scale, from the data collection conducted with professionals who work directly in the fight against COVID-19 in Brazil. A total of 232 professionals participated (Mage = 32.9; SD = 7.6), most of them female (68.1%), who answered the Fear of COVID-19 Scale, the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale, and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale instruments and a sociodemographic questionnaire. The adaptation process allowed identifying the content validity of the Brazilian versions and exploratory factorial analyses, followed by correlation studies showing evidence of internal structure validity and in relation to other (convergent) Fear of COVID-19 Scale and Coronavirus Anxiety Scale variables, which presented equally satisfactory reliability rates. Thus, the Brazilian versions of the Fear of COVID-19 Scale and Coronavirus Anxiety Scale scales were made available with satisfactory psychometric qualities for use in the research and assessment of psychological aspects of health professionals.

Abstract: Chronic low back pain is a highly prevalent pathology, which has unclear associations with psychosocial aspects. This study investigated differences between patients with chronic low back pain (n = 25) and acute low back pain (n = 20) and verified the effect of the variables assessed on the pain mean. The design was cross-sectional, and the instruments applied were: sociodemographic interviews, Brief Pain Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory II, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, Personality Factor Battery, Social Support Scale and Pain Catastrophizing Scale. The chronic pain group had significantly higher means of pain intensity, anxiety and catastrophic thoughts. In the regression analysis, the factor Depression of the Personality Factor Battery and belonging to the chronic pain group were found as predictors of the mean pain in the sample studied. It is understood that psychological factors are associated with the pain condition and require further investigation.

Abstract In this study, the parenting practices of adults who are legal guardians of youths referred to the Centro de Atenção Psicossocial Infantojuvenil (Psychosocial Care Center for Children and Adolescents) due to the use of psychoactive substances and/or aggression (Referral Group) were compared with parenting practices of legal guardians of youths who have never been referred to Centro de Atenção Psicossocial Infantojuvenil (Non-Referral Group). Forty participants from the Non-Referral Group and 17 from the Referral Group answered a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Parenting Styles Inventory. Referral Group participants reported lower frequencies of positive monitoring and moral behavior, and more frequent responses related to neglect, inconsistent punishment, and physical abuse. A bivariate logistic regression model showed that having the mother as the legal guardian and primary caregiver was a predictor of non-referral to Centro de Atenção Psicossocial Infantojuvenil, with neglect being a predictive factor of referral. The results indicate that differences in parenting practices can be associated with the outcome of referral to mental health services. Therefore, the importance of population interventions focused on promoting positive parenting practices is emphasized.

Abstract: This paper aims to discuss initial education in School Psychology in Brazil in the framework of the pandemic, addressing the challenges in emergency remote teaching. Therefore, considerations were made about the initial training of the school psychologists, their relationship with the performance of emergency remote teaching. in universities and, finally, the difficulties existing in the current reality. The training challenge during the pandemic refers to the change in the way activities are carried out and theoretical and practical teaching subjects that use digital technologies; in addition to difficulties associated with social conditions, health or access to equipment and the internet, which have implications for the training of undergraduates across the country. The importance of a careful look at the training of a professional who has experienced a different training process in relation to academic experiences and the development of professional skills is discussed.

Abstract Danilo Dolci (1924-1997) was an Italian intellectual, social activist, sociologist, popular educator, and poet, who spent his life in the rural areas of Sicily, trying to develop a progressive view of education as part of the population’s development and liberation from both poverty and organized crime. The core of Dolci’s pedagogy was the idea of the citizen as a learner and the learner as a citizen. His ideal of education, also referring to Freire and Gandhi, was the “citizen of the world”, able to overcome a colonialist and oppressive attitude to say that one’s own heritage is better than any other in the world. Instead, to Dolci, what I am originates in my cultural roots and makes me able to recognize that I am equal to the other people in the world. To develop his pedagogical ideal, Dolci relies on aesthetics and praxis, recognizing the value of the human being as part of the nature. I finally discuss how Dolci’s views on education can provide new useful perspectives to the development of the cultural psychology of education.

Abstract This article is intended to spur reflections on school psychologist’s remote practices and its impacts on the strengthening of collectives in the commitment for the transformation of educational frameworks during the pandemic period caused by the new coronavirus (COVID-19). The propositions of Lev Vygotsky and other scholars from the Cultural-Historical Theory set the theoretical-methodological grounds for the discussions and analysis presented. The data derived from two online interventions – one in Basic Education and another in Higher Education – developed by the authors of this paper during the period of social isolation caused by the pandemic. In both contexts, and as the guiding axis of our discussions, art was used as a mediating tool, a cultural instrument that through aesthetic experience promotes the creation of new meanings and senses of oneself, of others and the world. The importance of the school psychologist to recognize him/herself as a professional whose main role is to invest in the construction, maintenance, and transformation of the bonds established among the different actors inserted in educational contexts was emphasized.
