Abstract Objective: Spinocerebellar ataxia type 2, an orphan disease also known as spinocerebellar degeneration, is characterized by a degenerative process of the cerebellum and spinal cord. Method Biographical review of a Japanese woman known as Aya Kitou, using a qualitative approach of discourse analysis to identify resilience capacity, based on Boris Cyrulnik’s Biopsychosocial model. Results Description based on the detailed experience reported in Aya´s diary; the areas to achieve resilience are identified (internal resources, sociocultural significance and social support system) Conclusion Although the progression of the clinical condition compromised Aya”s functional capacity, limiting her autonomy and quality of life, it was evidenced that thanks to strong social networks individuals are more likely to achieve resilience, although the prevalence of social values and meanings upon the patient creates greater social anxiety and a greater feeling of inferiority and incapacity.

Abstract Objective The health and humanitarian emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures of physical distancing and social isolation adopted required new modes of care in mental health. This article aims to define the possibilities and challenges of virtualizing emergency care, specifically psychologist on duty service and psychological first aid. Method An integrative literature review was carried out from 2016 to 2021 in databases. Results A total of thirteen articles were selected, which culminated in the themes: emergency care practices in times of crisis; and implementation of virtualization with its potential and limits. Conclusion One can conclude that virtual care is a way to democratize access to mental health services, but this process has limitations. However, further studies are needed to increase the reach of virtual care in emergency mental health care, in order to allow maximization of the potential of this modality.

Abstract Objective The first wave of COVID-19 was challenging for healthcare workers. This study analyzed the ways of coping with stress at a university hospital. Method A Sociodemographic Characterization, Risk and Exposure Assessment, Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT-23), and COVID-19 Coping Scale were responded online by 181 professionals. Results The sample was composed mainly of women, white, married, physicians, with one job. Over 80% of the sample were at high exposure and risk for infection, with 17.1% having tested positive. The most reported stressors were risks of transmitting the disease, being hospitalized, and being separated from loved ones; 11% presented the risk of/probable burnout, with exhaustion and emotional impairment. They presented adaptive coping strategies, such as problem-solving and information-seeking, with a negative correlation between adaptive coping and burnout. Being a physician with maladaptive coping, in psychiatric care, and having religious beliefs were predictors of burnout. Conclusion Promoting adaptive coping may improve the mental health of these workers.

Abstract Objective Investigate child care collective imaginaries, a focus justified by the social and family transformations resulting from the massive insertion of women into the labor market. Method The study is organized methodologically from the perspective of concrete psychoanalytic psychology, articulating the use of the psychoanalytic method with relational theorizations. The research involves collective psychological interviews, in which 12 judicial mediators were interviewed through the Thematic Drawing and Story Procedure. Results The psychoanalytical consideration of the material allowed the interpretative production of four affective–emotional meaning fields. Conclusion The general picture indicates that a conservative imaginary prevails in which the best child care is provided by the biological mother in the contexts of both the nuclear family and the matrifocal family while also maintaining a friendly bond with the father.

Abstract Objective The purpose is to present a neuropsychological intervention program, aimed at the broader person, the Psychoeducation Module, directed fundamentally at one’s support network, family members and even intervention agents. Method The Cognitive Rehabilitation Program, given the acronym REHACOG, can work as a remedial and/or preventive tool that is very structured but flexible and complete because it includes varied tasks that promote multiple cognitive, linguistic and socio-emotional processes. REHACOG has an active character, also having a module more oriented to information and awareness for all the themes inherent to the larger individuals, potentially more oriented to caregivers or the elderly support network. Results Emphasizing this last topic, which has not yet been disseminated, which is the main objective of this article, we present the training module and the psychoeducational module, which includes six rubrics that cover topics ranging from conceptualization(s) of dementia, neurocognitive disorders, to symptomatology, assessment, intervention, caregivers and their roles, and response resources. Conclusion Although this material has not yet been published and disseminated, we expect to use and test it very soon.We look forward to its usefulness among professionals and future professionals in the area.

Abstract Objective We compared parental educational practices and emotional health of 62 mothers of students from nuclear (G1) and non-nuclear families (G2). Method We used an inventory of parenting practices and scales for assessment of anxiety, stress and depression. Results G1 showed significantly higher means for Moral Behavior. Positive correlations between negative parenting educational practices and clinical indicators for maternal emotional health were perceived in both groups and more significantly for G2. Younger mothers in G1 indicated more signs of state anxiety and for G2 the lower socioeconomic level indicated more signs of stress and trait anxiety and less depression. Conclusion The data can contribute to the planning of interventions.

Abstract Objective: Congenital Zika virus Syndrome is characterized by a series of neurological changes bearing consequences for child development. In view of the large number of children born with microcephaly and other neurological disorders, this qualitative study sought to understand and review the coping strategies used by 10 mothers of children affected by the syndrome. Methods: A semi-structured interview was applied, which identified four main maternal stressors: diagnosis; childcare routine; child treatment; and development and access to health services. Results: The most used coping strategies with regard to these stressors were: information-seeking, problem-solving, and delegation. Conclusion: The implications of such results for the care of this population are discussed within the perspective of expanding the adaptive coping to these stressors and ensuring the necessary support for those families in the long and difficult process of taking care of a child with this syndrome.

Abstract Objective: This study analyzed the relation between the position of scientists on embryo editing and the different types of knowledge involved. Methods: A lexical analysis of 151 scientific articles in the PubMed and Web of Science databases was conducted using the IRAMUTEQ software. Results: The results showed that gene editing in embryos is presented in two argumentative branches: the first refers to the editing technique and its possibilities; the second discusses the impacts of these techniques on the public arena. The results demonstrate a consensus regarding the potential of editing; however, dilemmas about its effectiveness were also highlighted. Conclusion: The presence of ethical conflicts with embryo editing among the specialists was evidenced especially regarding the birth of genetically modified babies. Therefore, gene editing is marked by conflicts that are not limited only to biological contexts, but that encompasses different aspects of social life.

Abstract Objective: This qualitative, cross-sectional study aimed to understand the social representations of obesity and the weight loss process in women who underwent bariatric surgery. Methods: Sixteen post-bariatric surgery (between 3 and 12 months post-surgery) women participated in semi-structured, face-to-face and individual interviews. The Thematic Analysis of Braun and Clarke (2006) was carried out to evaluate the data. Results: It were identifying 15 codes, 11 sub-themes, grouped into 3 themes: 1) Obesity: “The monster of contemporary society”; 2) “Today is different from what it was before”: Re-signifying eating; and 3) I’m happy, very happy”: The emergence of a new life. It was observed that the low tolerance to obesity in contemporary times implies the perception that people with obesity not worthy living in society. Thus, bariatric surgery is seen as the solution to the problem, as a way to feel ‘normal’ and visible, through a more socially accepted body. Conclusion: The discourse on health, linked to physical limitations, as the main justification for performing the surgery, seems to be overlaid by esthetic issues in the weight loss process.

Abstract Objective: Aimed to map the constructs used in articles to discuss the mental health of undergraduate nursing students in a positive perspective. Methods: A scoping review was carried out with a search in the electronic databases: Scopus, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, in April 2020, which allowed retrieval of 286 articles. Data selection and extraction was performed in a double check by the group investigators and were assessed using the continuous data comparison technique. Results: We selected 53 articles that allowed detecting a set of 13 constructs associated with positive mental health that are continuously investigated by this audience. Conclusion: It was found that the mental health of undergraduate nursing students is a supportive set of characteristics conditioned to the inter-retroactive circuit, in which each component retroacts on each part of a set of strengths, fostering a dynamic state of internal balance.
