Objective – The purpose of this study is to identify which factor has a stronger influence on customer satisfaction: perceived value or brand association. By understanding the influencer, the seller understands what policies and implications should be addressed to maintain and even enhance customer loyalty.Methodology/Technique – This empirical study uses a quantitative method and employs a PLS program to ensure a correlation between the constructs.Findings – The study concludes that brand association is a crucial determinant factor in customer satisfaction. Brand associations influence satisfaction relatively more than perceived value does. Public Servants’ Response to the Terms and Conditions of Retirement in Uganda 乌干达公务员对退休条款和条件的反应

Upon joining a firm, employees often find terms and conditions of retirement. They work for a wage, proportion of which is deferred into the future as retirement benefits; only accessed after some regulations have been fufilled. This paper uses a descriptive strategy to examine how employees in the public service in Uganda respond to the retirement conditions (mandatory age of exit, and minimum years of service), while measuring response to retirement conditions in binary form (voluntary early retirement, and retirement at age 60). Using data on retirees from the Pension Department of the Ministry of Public Service, results show that majority public servants in Uganda positively respond to the retirement rules. Majority retire at the statutory mandatory age. Moreso, the female employees, teachers, those not married, and those in upper salary scale. Also, there is an observed sharp strike in retirement at10 on the bar chart, after clocking the minimum years of service, a pointer to the early retirement condition. Such a response, particularly, by the different socioeconomic states of retirees, has implications on labor supply policies in the country.

Pensions and Early Retirement: The Case of the Public Servants in Uganda 养老金和提前退休:乌干达公务员的案例

Retirement, if influenced by pensions, can be a good manifestation of how the government can use the pension system as a fiscal instrument to achieve some socioeconomic targets. Borrowing intuition from the postulations of disengagement theory of aging that when the elderly retire, they free up positions in paid work for the entry of young individuals, this study investigates the role of incentives on early retirement. The high levels of unemployment in Uganda amidst the Public Service’s retirement conditions motivate this inquiry by investigating whether redesigning the pension scheme would induce significant early retirement to address the challenge of unemployment in the country. Using both parametric (probit regressions for marginal effects) and non parametric approaches (difference in marginal effects given the baseline and simulated effects), results show that incentives embedded in the pension scheme do induce significant early retirement, a condition for creating job space within the public service. This implies that pensions are a good possible fiscal instrument for addressing unemployment in uganda.

Chinese Abstract: 如何能将海量非结构化数据为投资所用,从海量的新闻中挖掘有用的信 息,对于投资决策至关重要。本文研究金融知识图谱的自动构建,把多源数据, 包括结构化数据、半结构化数据以及非结构化数据,整合在一起,将金融市场错 综复杂的关系以知识图谱的方式刻画。在此基础上,进一步研究基于知识图谱的 关联实体挖掘,解决财经新闻与股票实体的对应影响关系识别问题。本文最后设 计实验,模拟真实投资策略进行回测,取得了较高的超额收益,验证了本文算法 的有效性。 English Abstract: How to use massive amounts of unstructured data for investment, and to mine useful information from massive news is critical to investment decisions. This paper studies the automatic construction of financial knowledge graph, and integrates multi-source data, including structured data, semi-structured data and unstructured data, to characterize the intricate relationship of financial markets in the form of knowledge graph. On this basis, the related entity mining based on knowledge graph is further studied to solve the problem of identifying the corresponding influence relationship between financial news and stock entities. At the end of the paper, the experiment is designed to simulate the real investment strategy for backtesting, and the higher excess returns are obtained, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Chinese Foreign Real Estate Investment and Voting in U.S. Presidential Elections 中国海外房地产投资与美国总统选举投票

Few economic issues affect people as personally and universally as housing. Yet despite the increasing globalization of housing markets, little is known about its political implications. This study investigates whether rising Chinese investments in U.S. homes influenced local voting in recent U.S. presidential elections. Building on theories of self-interests, sociotropic politics, and nativism, I develop hypotheses on the electoral effects of foreign real estate investment through greater home equity, improved local economies, and increased immigration. Using a series of difference-in-differences designs that combine a unique exogenous shock to Chinese capital outflows in 2013 with original measures of local attractiveness to Chinese investments, I find that greater exposure helped local home prices recover but reduced 2012–2016 presidential vote for the incumbent Democratic Party. Larger white populations exacerbated this negative effect while stronger local economies attenuated it. Contradicting predictions of self-interests, the negative effect exacerbated in areas with high shares of homeowners. Together, the results suggest competing effects driven more by nativist and sociotropic concerns.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to illustrate and conceptualize how crowdsourcing can be implemented as a potential means to address gaps in service quality within service networks and to provide guidance to marketing practitioners on the use of crowdsourcing within service networks.Design/methodology/approachThis paper conceptualizes how crowdsourcing can be used to address service quality gaps in service networks and provides propositions regarding the effects of crowdsourcing on service quality gaps.FindingsConceptual paper with a literature review, suggested a model for service quality gaps in service networks and propositions regarding the effects of crowdsourcing to manage service quality gaps.Research limitations/implicationsThis research contributes to the literature on crowdsourcing by theorizing how crowdsourcing impacts service quality in service networks.Practical implicationsConsiderations for managers implementing crowdsourcing strategies and activities within service networks are provided. In particular, implications with regard to forming the crowd, developing the most appropriate approach and integrating value into the firm are discussed.Originality/valueThis paper offers an original contribution linking crowdsourcing to service quality.

We examine whether professional money managers overreact to large climatic disasters. We find that managers within a major disaster region underweight disaster zone stocks to a much greater degree than distant managers and that this aversion to disaster zone stocks is related to a salience bias that decreases over time and distance from the disaster, rather than to superior information possessed by close managers. This overreaction can be costly to fund investors for some especially salient disasters like hurricanes and tornadoes: a long-short strategy that exploits the overreaction generates a significant DGTW-adjusted return over the following 2 years.

A Study on Organisational Climate and Its Impact on Employees Performance in Tamilnadu 泰米尔纳德邦组织氛围及其对员工绩效的影响研究

This article aim is to study the climate of the organisation and its impact on employee’s performance. The employee performance is mostly depends upon the environment that prevailed in each organisation for instance positive encouragement and motivation at organisation leads to positive performance at organisation, negative climate leads to slow performance at organisation level. The satisfaction with organizational climate positively affects the performance and has negative relationship with turnover and deviant behaviour of the employees at work. This article intended to assess the organizational climate and its impact on employee’s performance. This study also investigated the level of climate which influences the employee’s performance. Positive or Negative climate prevailing in the organization are predicted and analysis are carried out. To achieve this defined objective questionnaire is prepared. The prepared questionnaire is used to get the direct responses from eighty employees. The responses given by the employees are analyzed and interpreted using the different type of statistical tools like Correlation, Chi-square and Anova. Employees are the main asset of organizations for delivering services. A work environment should be created where employees feel appreciated for their efforts.

History of Developmental Disability Policy in Alberta 艾伯塔省发育障碍政策的历史

The Alberta government is in the midst of reviewing its Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program, which funds more than 12,000 adults and has a budget totalling almost $1 billion. Despite numerous funding increases over the years, program beneficiaries, their families, advocates and service providers feel the PDD program still has many challenges to overcome. The review and its aftermath offer a timely occasion for all these groups to offer their input and make recommendations to help influence policy reform.

Social and Economic Impacts of Small Projects in Al-Hasaka Province Syria 叙利亚哈萨卡省小型项目的社会和经济影响

The study highlights the socio-economic impacts of the rural development projects that were carried out in the North-Eastern region of Syria among the local population. This analysis aims to evaluate several aspects; the personal characteristics of the beneficiaries; the activities created by the rural development project; the constraints faced by the beneficiaries which limited their activities and profit within the rural development project, and their propositions for resolving these limitations. The survey found that 43.3% of the beneficiary respondents are middle-aged, 47% can read and write and 35.3% have an educational qualification. Furthermore, 43.5% of beneficiaries are medium land holders and 62.8% own the land they cultivate themselves. Regarding the development training, 44.7% of beneficiaries attended development training, while 48.2% received vocational training. 76.5% of the projects are ongoing, and 98.8% of respondents said that the evaluation of their project was successful. Concerning marketing mushroom production, 78.3% had difficulties with marketing their production, and 90.5% suggested help was needed in marketing mushrooms.
