Four boletes of the genus Tylopilus are recorded as new to Taiwan; the specimens are described and illustrated. They are Tylopilus badiceps (Pk.) Smith & Thiers, T. castaneiceps Hongo, T. ferrugineus (Frost) Sing., and T. fumosipes (Pk.) Smith & Thiers, respectively.

Taiwan Fungi: New Records of Ascomycetes 台湾真菌:子囊菌新记录

Eight new records of ascomycetes with four species having anamorphs are described and illustrated from Taiwan. They are Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma with Oedemium minus anamorph, Heptameria obesa, Letendraea helminthicola with a Microsphaeropsis-like anamorph, Pleurostoma minima, Porosphaerella cordanophora with Cordana pauciseptata anamorph, Scortechinia chaetomioides, S. conferta, and Tubeufia cerea with Helicosporium vegetum anamorph.

Notes on Slime Molds from Changhua County, Taiwan (II) 台湾彰化县黏菌研究述评(二)

In continuation of the investigation on the slime molds of Changhua County, 16 additional taxa hitherto unknown from this area are reported. Among them Physarum lakhanpalii and Stemonitis emotoi are new to Taiwan. A reappraisal of the record of P. auriscalpium in Taiwan reveals that the voucher specimen represents an additional record of P. lakhanpalii. The name P. auriscalpium should be excluded from the myxomycete biota of Taiwan for now. The remaining 14 taxa are: Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa, Collaria elegans, Cribraria violacea, Didymium clavus, Fuligo septica, F. cf. septica, Hemitrichia clavata var. calyculata, Licea bforis, Pertchaena depressa, Physarum compressum, P. craterforme, P. nutans, Stemonitis flavogenita, and S. virginiensis. New collections of Craterium leucocephalum, Cribraria confusa, Diachea leucopodia, Diderma hem isphaericum var. hem isphaericum, Echinostelium minutum, Lamproderma scintillans, Physarella oblonga fo. oblonga, Physarum bivalve, and P. pusillum are also listed. Up to now a total of 20 genera, 41 species of slime molds have been recorded in Changhua County.

Yun Zhi Polysaccharopeptide (PSP) and the General Aspects of Its Research 云芝多糖(PSP)及其研究概况

This paper briefly introduces the general aspects of a new type biolobical response modifier—PSP. The production material of polysaccharopeptide (PSP) is the deep layer cultivated mycelia of Cov-1 strain of Yun Zhi isolated by the methol of water extraction and alcoholic precipitation. Its chemical components are protein-bound polysaccharides. After the analyses of (superscript 1) H, (superscript 13) C nuclear magentic resonance, GCMS on-line and HPLC analysis, it has been proved that the polysaccharopeptide contains Glc., Gla., Man., and Xy1. in addition to Ara. and Rahmose. In the polysaccharide of PSP, the main content is β1-3 glycosidic bond and it is different from that of Japanese Krestin (PSK). The pharmacology proves that PSP can obviously resist immune suppression caused by tumor-bearing or chemotherapy, prevent the atrophy of thymus, activate NK and LAK cells and incresse the contents of γ-interferon, IL-2, IL-6, etc. The toxicology proves that even administering 50-100 times the normal clinical dosage to patients, the toxicity of PSP is equivalent to that of ordinary drinking water, either in the cure of acute and chronic hepatitis, hereditary, reproductive and second generation teratogenic toxicity. PSP can obviously kill the SPS of lung cancer and SMMU-7721 of liver cancer cells and there is no obvious harm at all on V79 of lung cells and on GZG of liver cells. Through 485 cases of random double-blind clinical experiments, it has been proved that PSP can obviously improve the clinical symptoms of stomach, lung and esophagus cancer patients, lower the toxic and side effects of chemo- and radio-therapy and raise the life quality of patients. The total effective rate is 82.96%.

Cellulase Production by Xylaria Regalis, a Wood Grown Ascomycete 木本生长子囊菌王木菌纤维素酶的生产

Production of cellulolytic enzymes by the wood-grown ascomycete Xylaria regalis isolated in Taiwan was studied. The highest levels of endo-β-glucanase, cellobiohydrolase, and β-glucosidase produced by X. regalis were 65.3 mU/ml, 21.7 mU/ml, and 55.6 mU/ml, respectively, when cultivated at 28℃ for two weeks. X. regalis produced more β-glucosidase but less endo-β-glucanase and cellobiohydrolase in activity than Trichoderma reesei ATCC 26921 (=QM 9414). When culture filtrate was used as a crude enzyme solution, the optimum pHs for endo-β-glucanase, cellobiohydrolase, and β-glucosidase activities were 4.0, 5.0, and 5.0, the optimum temperatures being 40, 40, and 50℃, respectively.

First Report of Fimicolous Myxomycetes from Taiwan 台湾丝状黏菌首次报告

Stemonitis axifera var. smithii (Macbride) Hagelstein and S. herbatica Peck were discovered on cow dung in northern Taiwan. This is the first report of fimicolous Myxomycetes from Taiwan, and they are discovered for the first time in the world from the fimicolous habitat.

Zygospore wall formation in Rhizopus sexualis was studied using a cryofracturing rechnique and scanning electron microscopy. They results reveales that the zygospore wall was originally smooth, then became warted by maturity.

Twelve species of the Aphyllophorales belonging to the corticiaceous fungi and polypores are reported as new to taiwan. They are: Antrodiella cf. Asterostroma muscicola, Brevicellicium olivascens, Ceriporia viridans, Ceriporiopsis cf. mucida, Lopharia cinerascens, Oxyorus cuneatus, Plicatura crispa, Rigidoporus vinctus, Sistotrema brinkmannii, Skeletocutis albocremea, and Steccherinum robustius. Descriptions and microscopic line drawings are provided for the twelve species.
