An insight into the little-known, menacing facts of autoimmune disorder 洞察鲜为人知、来势汹汹的自身免疫性疾病真相

Autoimmunity is a misguided immune response that occurs when the immune system becomes disorganized and attacks the body. While autoimmunity is prevalent to some extent in most of us, it is often harmless. This immune response can sometimes cause a wide range of diseases known as autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune diseases start when there is a development from submissive autoimmunity to pathogenic autoimmunity. This progression is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors and mostly remains dormant for a period. A sudden recurrence of emergencies occurs with few options for survival. When T or B-cells or both get stimulated in the absence of infection, it results in a state where the immune system is unable to distinguish between self or non-self. This results in the efflux of immune cells leading to the destruction of self-molecules. The exact process governing this event is still inconclusive, but the research done so far predicts that genetics, habitat, and infections must be major causes of abnormal activation of the autoimmune reaction.

Flipped Classroom – A novel breakthrough in learning 翻转课堂——学习的新突破

Flipped classroom alters the conventional learning environment and brings out innovation and creativity in the teaching-learning process. The flipped classroom has begun to enhance the way the students receive information from their mentors. Audiovisual aids create a virtual classroom at home. Classroom time is more focused on student-centred learning activities, such as concept mapping, process-oriented guided inquiry learning, peer-led team-based learning, game-based learning, critical pedagogy. This improves better understanding of the subject, develop cognitive skills and enhance the conceptual learning of the students. Academic performance of the students exposed to flipped videos integrated with iBooks was evaluated and com- pared with the traditional learning environment.

Pharmacovigilance in Saudi Arabia: A Narrative Review on Adverse Drug Reaction Reporting 沙特阿拉伯的药物警戒:药物不良反应报告的叙述性回顾

Adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting is an important aspect of pharmacovigilance (PV) in ensuring drug safety during the post-marketing surveillance phase. Currently, the National Pharmacovigilance Center (NPC) established by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) is the regulatory authority receiving ADR reports in Saudi Arabia. Spontaneous ADR reports from healthcare professionals and the public are received by the NPC through an electronic platform known as the Saudi Vigilance System. Signal analysis of the received ADR reports aids the decision-making initiatives related to the reported drugs. Stakeholders’ contribution to ADR reporting, and implementation of effective electronic platforms are important factors affecting the national PV performance. The concept of stakeholders reporting on ADR is relatively new in Saudi Arabia, especially to the public. In this narrative review the national studies describing the stakeholders’ knowledge, perception and barriers toward ADR reporting, and the incidence of ADR reporting by healthcare institutions in Saudi Arabia were evaluated. The findings indicate that more efforts are needed by the SFDA to educate stakeholders about the importance of ADR reporting. The study recommends ADR electronic systems integration between the SFDA and healthcare institutions to improve the frequency and quality of ADR reports, and regular feedback on decisions made about ADR reports should be provided by the SFDA to stakeholders to improve their awareness of the importance of ADR reporting and enhance their contribution to PV and ADR reporting process.

The Antibacterial Activity of Various Solvent Extracts of Leaves of Raphunus sativus 莴苣叶各种溶剂提取物的抑菌活性研究

Raphinus sativus extract was prepared by Soxhlet extraction method using various solvents such as ethyl acetate (polar solvent) water and ethanol (nonpolar). The chemical test was performed to identify the presence of flavonoid content. Among them ethyl acetate extract shows a high flavonoid content.So it was used for further studies. By using the in vitro agar well diffusion method, antibacterial activity was measured in all extracts. 2 strains of bacteria were chosen for testing, including gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, ATCC25923) and gram-negative (E. coli, ATCC25922) bacteria. The diameter of the zone of inhibition were measured and compared to the amoxicillin reference standard.Compared to gram-positive bacteria, the extract exhibits higher potential activity against gram-negative bacteria. Concentration directly relates to how much action is taken.

Stroke comprises of a broad term encompassing many disorders of the blood vessels of the central nervous system that may result from either inadequate blood flow to the brain with subsequent infarction of the involved portion of the CNS or haemorrhages into the parenchyma or subarachnoid space of the CNS causing neurologic dysfunction. Stroke is one of the major cause of mortality worldwide. The objective of the study was to assess the drug utilization pattern (DUP) and to evaluate the impact of counseling on medication adherence for stroke patient admitted in the hospital. Dual antiplatelet therapy (69.4%) was mostly given over monotherapy (28.2%). CCB (28.2%) was the most commonly prescribed antihypertensive drug class and amlodipine (77.1%) was the major CCB given in this study. 96.5 prescriptions comply AHA/ASA guidelines. Unintentional reasons for nonadherence were been reported more frequently than intentional reasons prior to the counseling. The commonest reported unintentional reasons were Forgetfulness (96.0%), Confusion (80.0%) and intentional reasons are carelessness (92%), avoiding dosing schedule (78%). Phytochemical and Hepatoprotective Activity of Prosopis juliflora Barks on Different Models 黄豆树皮在不同模型上的植物化学和保肝活性

Liver injury is a common disorder where natural remedies are practiced from ancient time from plant source which shows alternative treatment in a safe manner. The Hepatoprotective activity of methanolic extract of Prosopis juiliflora bark part was taken for evaluation in screening. The model chosen for the study is carbon tetrachloride (0.1ml/kg) and the standard drug silymarin of 20mg/kg was used for the study for 21 days. The hepatoprotective effect of the methanolic extract against the carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity in wistar rats has been demonstrated by the substantial and severe reduction of enzymes in the serum.

In order to assess the total antioxidant capacity (TAC), total polyphenol content (TPC), and total flavonoid content (TFC) in ethanol fruit extract, as well as to ascertain the relationship between the antioxidant effects and phytochemical levels, this study looked at all three variables. 11 groups of 10 rats each were formed out of the experimental animals. All experimental subjects received a single intraperitoneal injection of aluminium chloride, 4.2 mg/kg body weight. Groups 4 and 5 received n-hexane fraction at 10 and 20 mg/kg b. w., respectively, whereas the other groups received various fractions and crude extracts of R. hookeri. Ethyl acetate fraction was given to groups 6 and 7 at doses of 10 and 20 mg/kg b. w. Aqueous fractions at 10 and 20 mg/kg b. w. were given to groups 8 and 9. While groups 10 and 11 got ethanolic crude extract daily for 21 days at doses of 200 mg/kg b. w. and 400 mg/kg b. w., respectively. All groups that were given AlCl3 - induced TBARS showed a significant (P 0.05) increase in vivo antioxidant activity. However, in the liver, kidney, and testes of all treatment groups, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activity considerably increased (P 0.05). Groups 4 and 5 received n-hexane fraction at 10 and 20 mg/kg b. w., respectively, whereas the other groups received various fractions and crude extracts of R. hookeri. Ethyl acetate fraction was given to groups 6 and 7 at doses of 10 and 20 mg/kg b. w. Aqueous fractions at 10 and 20 mg/kg b. w. were given to groups 8 and 9. While groups 10 and 11 got ethanolic crude extract daily for 21 days at doses of 200 mg/kg b. w. and 400 mg/kg b. w., respectively. All groups that were given AlCl3 - induced TBARS showed a significant (P 0.05) increase in vivo antioxidant activity. Gender Determination by Using Left Foot Index in Rajasthan Adults 用左脚指数测定拉贾斯坦邦成年人的性别

In the present era, with the evolution in the medical field, many parameters have gained importance in researches by the forensic experts, anthropologists in the identification of biological remains. Nowadays, complete human skeletons can be used for the identification of the biological profile of an individual. One of the emerging parameters are the foot dimensions in identification and gender determination. The study was conducted on 207 males & 200 females from Rajasthan adult population of age group 17 to 25 years. The anthropometric measurements of left foot length and breadth were measured by the digital sliding caliper. Significant Foot index was calculated, it was found that the overall left foot index for males was 37.89 and females was 38.24. This indicates that the value of left foot index is less than 38 in male but more than 38 in females. This 38 value obtained can be the deviation point in predicting the gender, by calculating the left foot index.

Descriptive and Retrospective Study on the Prevalence of Overweight and Obesity among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus 2型糖尿病患者超重和肥胖患病率的描述性和回顾性研究

Weight gain has been declared as one of the top 10 global health risks by the World Health Organization (WHO). In the past few decades, obesity has increased alarmingly around the world. Most patients with type 1 diabetes possess anti-insulin antibodies before receiving insulin therapy. About 80% of patients with type 1 diabetes have circulating islet cell antibodies. Both developed and developing countries are facing a medical disaster due to obesity. The incidence of type 2 diabetes is correlated with insulin resistance. Insulin resistance does not lead to hyperglycemia in most obese individuals. The purpose of this study is to determine whether Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients are overweight or obese, and to identify risk factors for such disease. Preventing diabetes complications and reducing its prevalence. A study was conducted to determine whether obesity increases the risk of diabetes. Identify dyslipidemia in Type 2 diabetics by studying its prevalence pattern. The age range of 40 to 70 years for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. The study also excluded participants with dyslipidemia. Various metabolic parameters were measured as well as baseline anthropometric indices (BMI, WHR). We found 25 patients in normal weight category, 3 patients in underweight category, 50 patients in overweight category, and 53 patients in obese category among the patients aged 40-50 years. Developing appropriate and controlled strategies for improving nutrition and promoting weight loss is urgently needed to mitigate Type 2 diabetes patients' increasing health challenges.
