Intercultural Language Education: Supportive Factors and Constraints on EFL Learners’ Intercultural Communicative Competence Development 跨文化语言教育:英语学习者跨文化交际能力发展的支持因素与制约因素

 This qualitative research aims to explore the supportive factors and constraints on the development of EFL learners’ intercultural communicative competence (ICC) in the EFL context of Vietnam. Forty-seven EFL learners who were learning General English at a foreign language center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, were involved in this study. Two research instruments, namely diary and semi-structured group interview, were employed to garner data. The findings revealed that there were more supportive factors (active learners, inspirational teacher, interactive learning material and task, and dynamic context) than constraints (learner differences and task administration) that affected learners’ ICC development. This study recommends that different factors such as learners, teacher, learning material/task, and context, should be scrutinized so as to facilitate the development process of learners’ ICC.
本质性研究旨在探讨越南英语语境下外语学习者跨文化交际能力发展的支持因素和制约因素。本研究以47名在越南胡志明市某外语中心学习普通英语的学生为研究对象。采用日记和半结构化小组访谈两种研究工具收集数据。研究发现,影响学习者ICC发展的支持因素(主动学习者、激励型教师、互动性学习材料和任务、动态情境)多于约束因素(学习者差异和任务管理)。本研究建议应审视学习者、教师、学习材料/任务和语境等不同因素,以促进学习者ICC的发展过程。

Causal Factors Influencing Development of Organizational Survival for Companies Listed in Thailand 影响泰国上市公司组织生存发展的原因因素

This research aims to study the factors that influence development for the survival of business organizations in Thailand. Sample populations are 484 Limited companieswhich have been operating in Thailand for not less than 20 years. Using a sample size with the source of Business Top 1000. (2015-2016): Sustainable Development Strategies.The CEO Spectrum, Special Issue, by collecting data from representatives of the companies executive management, the five factors used in the ‘Structural EquationModel’ are Leadership, Management, Knowledge Management, High Performance and Organization Survival. The Survival of the organization is evaluated by using themeans of a quantitative research tool as an Estimations questionnaire. Data analysis, using statistics for Social Science by Descriptive statistic and Inferential statistics withComputer Program and Linear Structural Equation Model Analysis Program present the causal factors that can influence the survival of the organization. The results of the research showed the structural equation model causal factors that influence the development for the survival of business organizations in Thailand. The consistency of an index model that blends in with the empirical data can be seen from x² = 151.51, df = 125, p-value = 0.054, RMSEA = 0.021, GFI = 0.971 and AGFI = 0.946. The results of the analysis show that Management and High PerformanceOrganization can directly influence the positive performance towards the survival of the organization with a statistical significance at 0.01 with a path coefficient equalto 0.27 and 0.26 accordingly, whereas knowledge management does not have direct positive influence to the survival of the organization with a path coefficient equal to0.007 and lastly all the variables are interrelated and can explain the survival of the organization at 23 percent.

Implementing a Portfolio-based Learner Autonomy Development Model in an EFL Writing Course 基于卷宗的学习者自主发展模式在英语写作教学中的应用

 Learner autonomy is believed to play a leading role in life-long learning; as a result, a myriad of studies have been conducted to discover tools to promote learner autonomy (e.g., blogs, Facebook, web 2.0, learning contracts, etc.). Nevertheless, the effects of a portfolio on promoting learner autonomy have not been explored much. This paper endeavored to investigate whether or not learner autonomy was developed with the implementation of the portfolio-based learner autonomy development (PLAD) model in an EFL writing course. Regarding research methodology, both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from a questionnaire with closed-ended and open-ended items and reflection logs kept in portfolios. For data analysis, the quantitative data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, whereas qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis. The findings showed the development of learner autonomy after the course in which a portfolio was employed as a learning tool. In particular, the participants were aware of learner autonomy and felt positive about autonomous learning tasks, especially writing reflection. Self-assessment, however, was the most challenging task which they encountered because of lack of confidence and experience. In addition, it was evident that the participants could choose learning materials when they were offered freedom and rights to do this task.

Structural Equation Modeling of Food Safety Standard in the Cassava Industry in Thailand 泰国木薯行业食品安全标准的结构方程建模

 Food safety is becoming more important in Thailand, especially when the country officially joins the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in the year 2015. In this study, key food safety factors and their associated items were mainly extracted from the two international food safety standards: the HACCP and the GMP standards. The questionnaire survey was used to collect data from cassava manufacturers for the exploratory factor analysis and the structural equation modelling. The analysis results revealed seven key factors in enhancing food safety standards: 1) Management, 2) Man, 3) Environment, 4) Material-Related, 5) Method, 6) Machine, and 7) Raw Material. The structural equation modelling results revealed causal relationships among the seven key factors. It was found that the Management factor is the most important factor in enhancing food safety standard in Thailand as it influences all other factors, both directly and indirectly. Management should, hence, set up realistic food safety policies, assign appropriate safety responsibility to the lower levels, and provide adequate necessary resources to improve food safety in the cassava industry.

The purposes of this research were to evaluate (1) the context including objectives and structure of the program, (2) the input of the program, (3) the process of the program, and (4) the output of the Master of Engineering Program in Construction and Infrastructure Management (Revised Program, B.E. 2555) of the Institute of Engineering, Suranaree University of Technology. The research sample totaling 221 persons comprised (1) eight members of the Program Review Committee, (2) six instructors, (3) 88 students, (4) 58 graduates, (5) 58 supervisors of the graduates, and (6) 3 experts. A questionnaire was employed as the research instrument. Research data were analyzed using the percentage, mean, standard deviation, and content analysis.  The findings of this research on evaluation of the Master of Engineering Program inConstruction and Infrastructure Management (Revised Program, B.E. 2555) of the Institute of Engineering, Suranaree University of Technology revealed that all ofthe four components of the program, namely, the context, input, process, and output were appropriate at the high level. Thus, the evaluation results in all components ofthe program met the set criteria.

With used thearcheological evidences both writing document and unwritten. For searching to the answer of the problem point of cultural societies changed about the many peoples inthis border from the Khmer culture came to Siamese civilization. As it’s a guideline of the importance areas and tourist attractions in the borders. This is a path to madecompanionship relations between Thailand with Cambodia.

Using Project-based Learning Activity on Enhance the Ability in Science Experiments of the First-Year Undergraduate Students 运用项目式学习活动提高本科一年级学生科学实验能力

The purposes of this study were to study the ability in science experiment and presentation of the first-year undergraduate students through project-based learning.The sample group was one classroom of the first year undergraduate students (29 students). The research tools consisted of 1) the lesson plans, 2) the assessment form ofscience experiment report, 3) the assessment form of students’ presentation, and 4) the observation form or anecdotal record of students’ learning behavior. Both quantitative data and qualitative data were collected. The statistics used to analyze the quantitative data were mean standard deviation and percentage. The qualitative data was analyzed by the content analysis. The result indicated that the ability of science experiment and presentation of the first year undergraduate students through project-based learning has the mean score at 33.38 from full score 40 equal 83.45 % and there were 26 students or 89.66%, passing criterion, which was higher than specified criterion at 70%.
摘要本研究旨在探讨专案式学习对一年级大学生科学实验与陈述能力的影响。样本组为本科一年级一个班级(29名学生)。研究工具包括1)教案,2)科学实验报告评价表,3)学生陈述评价表,4)学生学习行为观察表或轶事记录。收集定量资料和定性资料。定量数据分析的统计方法为平均标准差和百分比。对定性资料进行内容分析。结果表明,本科一年级学生通过项目化学习进行科学实验和陈述的能力在满分40分中平均得分为33.38分,为83.45%,有26名学生(89.66%)达到合格标准,高于70%的规定标准。

The Implementation of Polya’s Model in Solving Problem-Questions in Mathematics by Grade 7 Students Polya模型在七年级学生数学问题解决中的应用

 This research reports a study of the difficulties the students face in problem solving questions in mathematics and how to tackle it by using George Polya’s four-step problem solving model. The objectives of this research are 1) to develop the solving problem-questions skills in mathematics by using George Polya’s model for grade 7 students, and 2) to evaluate students’ achievements in mathematics on problem solving questions after using Polya’s problem solving model. A mixed of quantitative and qualitative methodologies were conducted in this study. The subjects of this study were a group of ten grade 7 students of an international school. The research tools were a pre-test before the treatment and a post-test after the treatment. The test included ten questions of problem solving which contained five “multiple choice questions” and five “long answer questions” for reading comprehension purpose. The data was collected and compared by quantitative analysis using mean, percentage and standard deviation, and by qualitative content analysis.The results from the pre and post tests were obtained, analyzed, and compared to find the improvement of the students’ performances while answering the problem solving questions. This study concludes with suggestions of methods that teachers can use to help the students overcome their difficulties in problem solving questions in mathematics.
