This qualitative research aims to seek causes for silence in an English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom. To do so, the researchers went to one university in Thailand, and then interviewed and observed 10 students who enrolled in the Fundamental University English I course and consented to participate in the study. An analysis of the transcribed data helped the researchers identify four possible causes for silence in this particular EFL classroom. They were: (1) the EFL teacher, (2) the students themselves and their classmates, (3) the teaching material and its content, and (4) the classroom environment. More importantly, these four commonplaces appeared to be entwined. That is, the less friendly the student participants felt their teacher and their classmates were, the less the students enjoyed their English class; the more pressured the classroom environment was; the more the students would be silent, and vice versa.

Corporate philanthropy donations act as one of the important ways for enterprises to fulfill their social responsibilities. There are many factors that influence corporate charitable donations, and one of which is the entrepreneur's personal characteristics. This study discusses the influence of private entrepreneurs’ religious beliefs on corporate philanthropy, and further analyzes the regulating effect of entrepreneurs’ political identity on religious beliefs and corporate philanthropy. Through face-to-face in-depth interviews with 11 charitable entrepreneurs in 11 cities of 10 provinces in China, applying continuous analytic induction, combined with NVIVO software for three-level coding, it can be concluded that the religious beliefs of private entrepreneurs have no absolute effect on corporate philanthropy, but entrepreneurs with religious beliefs are all keen on philanthropy; and their political identities of having a positive impact on corporate philanthropy. For entrepreneurs without political identities, their religious beliefs have a positive impact on corporate philanthropy, while for entrepreneurs with political identities, there is a stronger positive correlation between their religious beliefs and corporate philanthropy. The research results help to further understand the motivation for charitable donations of private enterprises, and play a practical guiding role in promoting the development of private corporate philanthropy.

This research constructed an optimal model to forecast the exchange rate of the Thai Baht against the Chinese Yuan by Support Vector Machine model and firefly algorithm. The software used for the construction was R program. The data used for modelling was secondary data collected from Bank of Thailand and the Ministry of Commerce, which consisted of the exchange rate of the Thai Baht against the Chinese Yuan, policy interest rate (per year), the Thai Baht index, import value, export value and international reserve fund. The collection of data was monthly records starting from January 2009 to June 2019, 126 data sets. The first 120 data sets were used for constructing the model and the last 6 data sets were used to verify the model. It was found that there were 3 factors which affected the exchange rate of the Thai baht against the Chinese yuan, with 5% statistical significance. The same direction factors were policy interest rate and import value and the opposite direction factor was international money fund. The optimal support vector machine model obtained was eps-regression type with radial basis function kernel, which had gamma parameter , epsilon parameter and cost value parameter . The model verification showed that the obtained model provided the root mean square error 0.1518 only whereas the classical multiple linear regression model provided the root mean square error 0.2614.
