Introduction: Psoriasis is a prevalent chronic inflammatory systemic disease that can manifest in a variety of clinical manifestations. Psoriasis was thought to only affect the skin. Recent findings from dermatologic, rheumatologic, and cardiologic research indicate that it is a systemic disease, henceforth referred to as psoriatic disease. Purpose of work: Collecting information on the benefits of physical activity and diet modifications in patients with psoriasis on aspects such as metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular risk, mental health, and general well-being. Summary: Psoriasis is a disease that affects many areas of life. Physical activity improves the body weight, mental health, and cardiovascular risk of patients with psoriasis. Engaging in physical activity may reduce the probability of developing psoriasis and may also ameliorate its course. The Mediterranean diet, ketogenic diet, probiotics, and alcohol withdrawal may also alleviate the course of psoriasis. It is noteworthy to mention the potential limitations that may arise in the context of this disease, including embarrassment resulting from skin lesions and joint discomfort resulting from psoriatic arthritis. Sports training ought to be customized for each patient, taking into account their limitations and preferences.

Introduction and purpose: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and its effects on patients remain the main focus of many researchers across the world. One of the challenges faced by medical professionals is the impact of the infection on the course of chronic diseases. Manifestations of the infection are observed mainly in the respiratory system, but other organs, particularly the cardiovascular system, are also frequently affected. Recent data indicates that arterial hypertension and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the most prevalent comorbidities in patients suffering from SARS-CoV-2 infection.  Material and methods: This study aimed to investigate the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the cardiovascular system. Apart from the literature review we conducted a retrospective study to check the necessity for modification of chronic treatment in patients with CVD after recovery from COVID-19, particularly regarding the use of beta blockers.   Results: Using the Mann-Whitney U test a positive correlation (p = 0.04) was found between the presence of coronary artery disease before COVID-19 and a need for an increase in the beta-blockers dose. Conclusions: Patients with preexisting CVD should be closely monitored during and after recovery from SARS-CoV-2 infection due to the higher risk of complications and the potential need for modifications in the treatment of chronic diseases. Patients with coronary artery diseases may need an increase in beta-blocker doses after recovery. This is an important issue for future research, especially in the context of long COVID-19.

Introduction and purpose Diabetes comprises a group of metabolic disorders characterized by persistent hyperglycemia. This elevated blood glucose level arises from impaired insulin secretion and/or action. In type 2 diabetes, modifiable risk factors include an unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, and obesity. Given the reversibility of these factors, lifestyle interventions, particularly those promoting physical activity, are deemed beneficial. To evaluate the adherence to type 2 diabetes management guidelines, focusing on the incorporation of physical activity as a critical aspect of behavioral treatment for diabetes. . Materials and methods. Author's survey covering patients' knowledge about their disease, needs and expectations regarding education. The questionnaire examines the physical activity of patients newly diagnosed and already treated for type 2 diabetes. Results The most performed exercise among patients was moderate-intensity activities such as walking or Nordic walking. These activities were more frequently intensified compared to others. Patients engaging in these forms of exercise did so more frequently and consistently than those participating in other types of physical activity. Additional activities included running and cycling, predominantly among the younger patient cohort. Patients who derived enjoyment from physical exercise demonstrated a higher likelihood of regular and willing participation. Conclusions. Patients exhibited reluctance to engage in physical exercise and typically did not regard it as a crucial component of their treatment regimen. The exercise they performed was generally of low intensity, and few patients increased their physical activity following their diagnosis. A significant number of respondents lacked understanding of the role of exercise in the management of their condition and its effect on blood glucose levels.

Intracranial hypotension syndrome develops following cerebrospinal fluid (CSF, cerebrospinal fluid) leakage as a result of iatrogenic or spontaneous interruption of the meninges. The main clinical manifestation of intracranial hypotension, whether spontaneous (SIH, spontaneous intracranial hypotension) or iatrogenic, is a chronic headache of the orthostatic type, which may be accompanied by symptoms of neurological deficits. Despite the usually benign course, subdural haematomas developing following SIH or cerebral venous sinus thrombosis can cause deterioration of the patient's condition and may even be life-threatening. An important role in the diagnosis of SIH is played by imaging studies (mainly magnetic resonance imaging) of the brain and spinal canal, sometimes supplemented by CSF pressure testing. If conservative treatment fails, consideration should be given to surgical management and epidural blood patch. SIH is dangerous, so it is important to know how to diagnose and treat it.

Introduction and purposeAndrogenetic alopecia (AGA) is one of the most common causes of baldness worldwide. It affects up to 80% of men by the age of 70 and up to 40% of postmenopausal women. In AGA etiology and pathogenesis, the three essential components play a key role - genetic inheritance, patient age and hormonal effects of androgens. In the following review, we have described the available FDA-approved and off-label treatments for AGA, along with their efficacy and potential side effects that should always be considered to prevent treatment discontinuation by the patients. The state of knowledgeThe pathogenesis of AGA is based on inherited dihydrotestosterone (DHT) sensitivity in the scalp skin, which leads to progressive hair loss. The literature documents the effectiveness of several treatments with different mechanisms of action in AGA therapy, but only topical minoxidil and oral finasteride gained FDA approval so far. Minoxidil acts by the blood vessels dilatation that increases the flow of oxygenated and growth factor-enriched blood to the hair follicles in the skin. 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, such as finasteride and dutasteride are another threapeutic option. Thy act by the inhibition of 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme which converts testosterone to DHT - the main causative agent of androgenetic alopecia. Recently, topical applications of minoxidil and finasterid, along with completely new emerging treatments for androgenetic alopecia are gaining popularity among doctors and patients. SummaryThis review describes current treatments for AGA, considering their efficacy, optimal doses, and the most common side effects. An important fact to emphasise is that androgenetic alopecia is based on a genetic predisposition, and treatment requires long-term use. For this reason, when choosing a medication, it is essential to cooperate with the patient and combine different therapeutic methods to achieve the desirable outcome while avoiding adverse reactions.

Introduction and purpose Diabetes is a disease resulting from impaired action or secretion of insulin. The number of patients currently amounts to approximately 422 million, and approximately 1.5 million deaths per year are directly attributed to this disease. Diabetes significantly reduces the quality of life and, if poorly controlled, can lead to serious complications. Mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent cells capable of differentiation. They have the ability to self-renew and have a modulating function. There are reports that they can be used in the treatment of this disease. The aim of the review was to present a new method of therapy and their possible effects. Material and methods The review was based on articles obtained from PubMed scientific database in the years 2015-2023, using the following keywords: diabetes mellitus, stem cells, diabetes complications. Results Implanted stem cells are able to transform into cells that produce and secrete insulin, and also enable better glycemic control. They can alleviate chronic inflammation and reduce fibrosis. Taking into account the complications that occur during long-term diabetes, the use of stem cells may be associated with improving the function of specific organs and tissues such as the kidneys, heart, eyes and nerves. Studies also report a positive effect of these cells on the healing process of wounds and ulcers. Conclusions Stem cells are a promising object of analysis. They can control glycemia and have a positive effect on the functioning of the kidneys, heart, eyes and nerves, and accelerate wound healing, but further, extensive research is needed to assess the effectiveness and safety of this therapy.

Introduction and purpose In recent years, there has been notable progress in the role of light-emitting technologies, including lasers and other energy-based devices, across various medical disciplines. Dermatology stands out as one of the prominent fields where laser treatments have gained significant popularity. In the clinical setting, a variety of laser types are utilized. A fundamental aspect of ensuring the safe use of laser devices involves comprehending their mechanisms at the tissue level. This knowledge enables practitioners to attain the desired outcomes effectively while minimizing the risk of complications. Lasers have demonstrated effectiveness in treating cutaneous vascular conditions because of their capacity to selectively target intravascular oxyhemoglobin. Rosacea, juvenile hemangioma, and port wine stains are among the vascular skin conditions for which laser therapy has shown notable success. Laser therapy is employed in treating hypertrophic scars, keloids, and acne scars because it facilitates the restructuring of the skin's architecture at the scar site, with the goal of minimizing its size and visibility. Laser therapy stands as the gold standard for removing tattoos. Materials and methods The methodology for conducting literature search involved utilizing medical subject headings terms to explore PubMed. Search terms included: “lasers”, “intense pulsed light”, “dermatology”, “rosacea”, “acne”, “scars”, “tattoo removal”. Conclusions Laser dermatological treatments are gaining popularity worldwide, driving new innovations and clinical applications. This review highlights the significant role and diverse clinical applications of lasers and intense pulsed light in dermatological practice. Improving the quality of skin in patients suffering from skin diseases can significantly increase their quality of life.

Depression is the most prevalent mental health condition. It’s estimated that nearly 5% of adults suffer from this disorder globally. Depression is marked by ongoing sadness and a loss of interest or pleasure in activities that were once enjoyable or fulfilling. It can also lead to disruptions in sleep and eating patterns. Common symptoms include fatigue and difficulty concentrating. According to WHO diabetes is a chronic, metabolic disease characterized by elevated levels of blood glucose which leads to the damage of the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. Nowadays the occurrence of diabetes mellitus, obesity and depression is getting higher and higher. Both conditions stand as prominent health issues in today’s society. Recent pandemic, wars, problems of the current world can cause depression and anxiety disorders. The fast-paced nature of our lives, work-life balance issues, sedentary habits, and time constraints can lead to opting for fast food and neglecting a healthy diet. People with diabetes are more prone to experiencing depression. Moreover, a significant portion of cases remains underdiagnosed.

Introduction and purpose Thyroid ailments are frequently encountered in medical practice, often intertwined with a variety of conditions that may or may not share common underlying factors. Among the organs profoundly influenced by these disorders is the skin, which manifests a diverse array of clinical presentations. However, the exact changes in the structure of skin appendages have not been well studied. Changes in hair structure or nail findings may be helpful in early diagnosis of thyroid disorders and therefore are important for dermatologist education. Hair loss can be a very uncomfortable and embarrassing ailment. Many diseases, nutritional deficiencies, stress and other factors can affect the hair condition and even induce its falling out. This review seeks to explore the numerous skin disorders arising directly or indirectly from thyroid irregularities, offering an updated understanding of the interplay between thyroid function and skin health. State of Knowledge It is well-established in scientific literature that thyroid gland disorders, particularly hypothyroidism, induce metabolic deceleration, influencing the inadequate nourishment of skin appendages, resulting in skin dryness and fragility. Patients commonly report pallor, cold intolerance, and deteriorating hair and nail quality. Conclusion We noticed strong correlation between hair loss and the autoimmune process during the dysfunction of thyroid. Euthyroidism plays an important role in hair cycle and any changes can disturb its proper development. In Hashimoto disease elevated levels of antibodies negatively influence hair cycle by excessively inducing telogen phase.  Moreover, the blood vessels of the skin constrict disrupting the blood flow which affects hair follicles.
