Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia and is a challenge for the modern world due to the due to aging populations. Researchers are trying their best to understand the mechanisms of onset and find effective ways to treat and prevent this disease. The purpose of the following paper is to present the impact of physical activity in the development of Alzheimer's disease. Numerous studies confirm that regular workouts have a positive reflection in the form of slowing the aging of the brain and alleviation of neuropsychiatric symptoms in affected individuals. During muscle work irisin is produced, which plays an important role in the formation of neurons and exhibits an anti-inflammatory effects. This review also looks at the aspect of maintaining proper composition of the gut microbiota, whose imbalance can promote the process of neuronal inflammation and cognitive dysfunction. Attention is also given to issues of training intensity and the effect of of exercise on blood flow in the brain. All of these elements play an important role in preventing and slowing down neurodegeneration.

Background. Existing methods for assessing glomerular filtration rate (GF) are invasive. Therefore, we set ourselves the goal of evaluating the rate of glomerular filtration by a non-invasive method. Materials and Methods. The object of observations were 10 men aged 37-69 years without clinical diagnosis tested twice with 7-days interval. The rate of glomerular filtration was calculated according to endogenous creatinine clearance and the Cockcroft & Gault formula. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure was measured three times in a row. The state of the autonomic nervous system was assessed by the HRV method. Results. We confirmed the significant correlation of GF with age and weight. The screening revealed a significant correlation of GF with a number of blood pressure and HRV parameters. If in the classic formula we replace creatinineemia with systolic blood pressure and HRV-markers of sympathetic tone, we get a formula for estimating the GF with a standard error of 10,9 mL/min vs 2,7 mL/min, but without blood sampling. The regression model, which includes HRV and blood pressure parameters, as well as urinary creatinine concentration, allows estimating GF with a standard error of 12 mL/min. Conclusion. The balneotherapy has a significant effect not only on blood creatinine level, but also on HRV and blood pressure parameters, and even more pronounced. Therefore, the estimation of GF based only on the Cockcroft & Gault formula is at least not much more accurate than the one proposed by us, besides, our method is completely non-invasive.

Primary hyperparathyroidism is a common endocrine disorder. It is characterised by elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) level causing hypercalcemia. 90-95% of cases have a spontaneous cause, with the remaining 5-10% having a genetic basis. On routine examination, a 47-year-old patient was found to have hypercalcemia, vitamin D deficiency, normal PTH levels and no hypercalciuria. Despite vitamin supplementation, calcemia remained unchanged. Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) examination detected possible adenomas in the lower parathyroids regions, and ultrasound revealed an adenoma of the lower left parathyroid gland and hypertrophy of the lower right parathyroid gland. The atypical clinical presentation - young age, inadequate normal PTH levels and the location of the lesions within the two parathyroid glands suggested genetic testing, which confirmed the presence of a genetic mutation - the GCM2 variant. Treatment included exploration of the parathyroid area using fluorescence. Both lower parathyroid glands were dissected. PTH monitoring showed a decrease in baseline levels of more than 50% after surgery. One month after surgery, PTH and calcium levels remained normal. Primary hyperparathyroidism is usually asymptomatic, detected when laboratory tests are performed for another cause. Symptoms include nephrolithiasis, bone and joint pain, osteoporosis, arrhythmias and fatigue. The typical patient has high PTH levels and hypercalcemia, but not every case will be schematic. High serum calcium levels do not always result in increased PTH levels and an in-depth diagnosis is required. The GCM2 mutation, detected in the patient presented here, may occur in familial isolated hyperparathyroidism. Correct diagnosis and treatment is crucial not only for the patient, as it significantly improves their quality of life, but also for their family members, who may also have a genetic mutation and be unaware of the disorder developing in their body.

Introduction: Infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) pose a significant clinical challenge due to increasing antibiotic resistance. This study analyzes the effectiveness of ceftazidime/avibactam treatment for KPC infections, focusing on 30-day mortality and comparing results with control groups treated with different antibiotics. Material and methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of six cohort studies, comparing thirty-day mortality in patients treated with ceftazidime/avibactam with control groups using other antibiotics. The studies included patients infected with KPC, and the analysis focused on therapeutic effectiveness.Aim of the study: The aim of the study is to compare the results in terms of 30-day mortality in groups treated with ceftazidime/avibactam compared to control groups using different antibiotics. Conclusions: Data analysis from various studies revealed varied 30-day mortality outcomes in groups treated with ceftazidime/avibactam compared to control groups using different antibiotics. Ceftazidime/avibactam proved to be more effective in all studies, reducing mortality rates compared to other treatment regimens. We emphasize that emerging antibiotic resistance, especially in the case of KPC, requires a comprehensive therapeutic approach. Despite promising ceftazidime/avibactam results, factors such as overall patient health and treatment delays may influence final therapy outcomes. We also highlight controversies regarding combination therapy vs. monotherapy, necessitating further research. Our work underscores the importance of monitoring the effectiveness of KPC infection treatment and exploring new therapeutic strategies. Further clinical studies are essential to develop a fuller understanding and optimal therapeutic protocols in the face of the growing antibiotic resistance problem.

Introduction:A urinalysis is a simple diagnostic test which is used to detect wide range of disorders including urinary tract infections, kidney disease and diabetes. Moreover, it can be an useful tool to monitor a medical condition. A urine analysis might be a part of routine medical exam in order to check patient’s health condition but it is not recommended as a preventive screening test in the population. We believe that this article will contribute to spreading important knowledge especially in primary care.Aim of the study:The aim of the article is to collect and summarize basic information on urinalysis. We collected elemental information about routine urine examination, which includes assessment of physical properties, chemical properties and sediment composition. This knowledge is useful in the daily practice of a primary care doctor.Material and methods:Literature available in the PubMed database, ScienceDirect and ClinicalKey was reviewed using the following keywords: “Urinalysis”;  “Urine sediment”, “Urinary tract infection”Conclusions:The ability of proper urine analysis is crucial in clinical practice. Performing the test is technically simple and widely available. It is important to be aware of the limitations of urine analysis. Therefore if results of urinalysis is unusual, it is necessary to require more testing to find the source of the medical issue.

Introduction and objective: Obesity has become an important public health issue in Poland. Furthermore, it is one of the most common preventable causes of diseases and mortality. Pharmacological methods of treating obesity have been developing significantly in recent years.Tirzepatide is a new dual incretin receptor agonist that activates both GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptors. The aim of this review is to assess the effectiveness of this medication in reducing body weight. Current state of knowledge: According to data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) in Poland, 65% of men and 49% of women are struggling with the issue of excessive body weight [1]. Obesity in Polish society is steadily increasing in every age group. However, it affects most significantly children aged 7-13 years and adolescents. In 2022, the novel dual GLP and GIP-1 agonist has been registered for the treatment of type 2 diabetes which is not satisfactorily controlled. It can be also used together with diet and physical activity in patients diagnosed with obesity (BMI of 30 kg/m2 or more) or who are overweight (BMI 27-30 kg/m2) and have weight-related health problems such as hypertension, metabolic syndrome, dislipidaemia and diabetes mellitus [2]. Summary: The increasing prevalence of obesity leads to a dynamic search for the most effective pharmacological methods of treating obesity. The combined activation of GLP-1 and GIP receptors by Tirzepatide has been shown to have additional benefits beyond satisfying glucose control. The biological mechanism of action of this medication additionally causes decreased food intake, slowed gastric emptying and enhanced insulin secretion, all of which can contribute to weight reduction.

Pharmacological methods of treating obesity have been developing significantly in recent years.Tirzepatide is a new dual incretin receptor agonist that activates both GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptors. The aim of this review is to assess the effectiveness of this medication in reducing body weight. \u0000Current state of knowledge: According to data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) in Poland, 65% of men and 49% of women are struggling with the issue of excessive body weight [1]. Obesity in Polish society is steadily increasing in every age group. However, it affects most significantly children aged 7-13 years and adolescents. In 2022, the novel dual GLP and GIP-1 agonist has been registered for the treatment of type 2 diabetes which is not satisfactorily controlled. It can be also used together with diet and physical activity in patients diagnosed with obesity (BMI of 30 kg/m2 or more) or who are overweight (BMI 27-30 kg/m2) and have weight-related health problems such as hypertension, metabolic syndrome, dislipidaemia and diabetes mellitus [2]. \u0000Summary: The increasing prevalence of obesity leads to a dynamic search for the most effective pharmacological methods of treating obesity. The combined activation of GLP-1 and GIP receptors by Tirzepatide has been shown to have additional benefits beyond satisfying glucose control. The biological mechanism of action of this medication additionally causes decreased food intake, slowed gastric emptying and enhanced insulin secretion, all of which can contribute to weight reduction.","PeriodicalId":15567,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education, Health and Sport","volume":"57 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141121412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Infections with the human papillomavirus (HPV) are one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases and are the main cause of precancerous changes and cervical cancer development. However, mere infection does not guarantee the development of disease or carcinogenesis. For this to occur, high-risk types of HPV must integrate into the host cell genome, transitioning into a persistent form of infection. Following the discovery of risk factors for HPV infection and factors predisposing infection to a persistent form, the number of studies investigating the correlation between vaginal dysbiosis and infection has significantly increased. Numerous studies document a significant association between the state of vaginal bacterial flora and HPV infection, leading to the development of plentiful studies on infection pathogenesis, risk factors, prevention, and treatment methods using bacteria. In this paper, based on recently published studies and current state of science knowledge, we will outline the topic of vaginal microbiome, emphasize the importance of bacteria inhabiting the vagina for human health, and identify the problem of changes in vaginal microflora. We would like to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about the vaginal microbiome and general knowledge about taking care of its health. We will also summarize available treatment methods based on bacterial environment and discuss those methods for which research is currently underway or should be initiated.

Introduction and purpose: A collection of symptoms known as cerebral palsy first manifest in early childhood and result in profound physical impairment. Cerebral palsy is thought to affect 1 in 500 live births, or roughly 17 million people worldwide. The type of cerebral palsy determines the clinical symptoms. Movement coordination disorders, epilepsy, muscle weakness, and feeding difficulties are the most common symptoms. The purpose of this article is to familiarize readers with the options for nutritional therapy for cerebral palsy patients. Material and methods The following review was based on articles from the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Key search terms included cerebral palsy; nutrition; treatment; gut microbiota.. State of knowledge Early identification of malnutrition symptoms and appropriate interventions, such as the implantation of a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube in patients who are unable to swallow food, are the cornerstones of nutritional therapy for cerebral palsy patients. Dysphagia is a major problem in the population of patients with cerebral palsy, and multidisciplinary therapy is necessary for them. Patients' serum vitamin D levels are also influenced by their diet; 50% of those with cerebral palsy have a deficiency in this nutrient. Conclusions For people with cerebral palsy, nutrition is very important. Premature death may arise from malnutrition brought on by the disease's advancement. As a result, individuals with cerebral palsy need to receive specialized care

Introduction and purpose: As the elderly population grows, the risk of cognitive decline and dementia increases. Environmental toxicants, including metals, have been identified as potential contributors to these conditions. This literature review investigated the potential contribution of metals, such as aluminium, lead, zinc and copper to Alzheimer's disease development.Material and methods: The literature was conducted using "Pub Med" and "Google Scholar" databases with the keywords "metals", "Alzheimer's disease", "aluminium", "lead", "neurodegenerative diseases", "copper".Brief description of the state of knowledge: Metals can negatively affect the functionality of the central nervous system, leading to impairments in behavior, motor skills, and cognitive abilities. The development of Alzheimer's disease can be influenced by several factors, including Aβ aggregates, tau tangles, synaptic dysfunction, inflammation, and oxidative stress, which may be worsened by interactions with these metals.Results and conclusions: Extensive research has shown a link between metal exposure and neurodegeneration. Understanding the role of metals like lead, copper, aluminum, and zinc in Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis remains crucial, but further investigation is needed. A better insight into the impact of metal exposure on brain health could help find the way for effective prevention and treatment strategies for neurodegenerative diseases.
