Abdulla Kadiri’s novel, “The Days Gone By” reveals a wide range of universal themes and problems. Therefore, it is very difficult to define its all features unambiguously. Nevertheless, it can be argued that, having laid the foundation of the work for a beautiful love story, the author was able to touch upon the complex problem of the confrontation between God and the devil, light and darkness in the density of mankind. The novel reflects the social and political life of the power and trade strata of the then feudal society. The writer, based on his own progressive views, reveals a number of problems that caused democratically inclined people of that time serious concern: old customs and prejudices, national isolation and narrow-mindedness, the place and role of women in society, and the rights of the working poor. The historical situation described in the novel is characterized by the beginning of the struggle, albeit still timid, weak, but already emerging democratic ideology of respect for the rights of any person and enlightenment in all sectors of the Uzbek people, against the very strong with its state institutions, social attitudes, religious relations and family homebuilding, stupidly childish inquisitorial feudal order. In fact, the writer gives in the novel a comprehensive picture of the khan's power system, destroying any dissent and permeating all segments of the population and, under these conditions, a picture of the enslaving existence of simple people, bright and pure in their lives and endeavors.

This article discusses the linguistic aspect of address. The syntactic category of address attracted the attention of Russian linguists for a long time. The object of their study was address, the natural condition for the existence of which was oral and written forms of dialogical speech. A multilateral analysis of the essence and functioning of circulation in the Russian language was first presented in the works of A.A. Shakhmatova and A.M. Peshkovsky. In modern syntactic works and academic grammars, the methods of expression and distribution of addresses in oral and written dialogical speech, their bridges in the utterance, the nature of their intonation, depending on the lexical expression, the degree of prevalence, placement in the sentence are described. There are various approaches to the study of messages. Important are the analysis of the syntactic status of addresses (A.A. Shakhmatov, A.M. Peshkovsky), consideration of the functional aspect of the address (V.K. Kuzmicheva, O.A. Mizin), the study of address as a unit of speech etiquette (L.A. Vvedenskaya, N.I. Formanovskaya). Addressing is studied in linguistics by using a variety of approaches, each of which reveals the essence of the linguistic unit under study in a special way. A special aspect is the study of the semantic and functional features of addresses in poetic speech. Much less attention was paid to the study of conversions in poetic speech. In the writings of such scientists as L.Yu. Maksimov, Yu.I. Levin, I.I. Kovtunov contains observations concerning the ways of expression, dissemination and functioning of references in Russian lyric poetry of the 19th - 20th centuries. This article also examines the specifics of the use of addressing in the poetic works of M. Tsvetaeva. Address to people in general represents a great variety and each type has its own syntactic, semantic and functional features. This type of address is widely used in the poet's lyrics. So, in the poetic language of M. Tsvetaeva, addresses that are expressed by common nouns in the singular can name people according to various characteristics.

The article deals with the problem of verb classifications in the English and Uzbek languages, as well as reveals the isomorphic and allomorphic features of these verbs. In addition, explained some ideas about the comparison of verb types taking into account the relationship between grammar and vocabulary, and the theory of optimal scientific classification of verbs is proved. However, the grammatically significant classification of the verbs, according to their lexica-grammatical meaning, formation, relation to the object, obligatory valance; whether they require prepositional object or not, the limit of the action in the time, the intransitive verbs which can be used in the passive voice and the verbs which are used with a formal subject have been worked out. When it comes to the objective of the comparative study of verb types, it is crucial to mention that the similarities of the grammatically relevant types of the verbs such as notional, monovalent, bivalent, trivalent verbs and the differences of the non-finite forms of the verbs like infinitive, gerund, participle and adverbial participle have been revealed in the languages compared. In addition to the transitive and intransitive verbs, bifunctional verbs have been identified in the English language.

The article discusses distinguishing features of the American humor and satire. National peculiarities of American satirical short stories are analyzed via examples of the works of American short-story writers. The main attributes of satire, its history, genres as well as the specifics of the genre are considered. The phenomena of satirical short story popularity in America is analyzed. Stylistic devices, comic creation means, implemented in the works of the XX century American writers are distinguished. The artistic means used by the masters of American satire are diverse. Here we find notorious cartoon, and psychological analysis with a satirical tint, and grotesque, and elements of "wild humor". Writers use hyperbole, satire, and parody to express their negative attitude towards capitalist America. In satirical short stories, all aspects of American life are mercilessly ridiculed: politics, law, religion, journalism, and literature. The article shows that for American authors of the twentieth century, the use of comic at the plot, character and sentence levels is most characteristic, while the expression of the comic at the level of collocation is less involved. A typical feature of American short stories is the construction of the story, where a sharpened plot is necessarily present, leading to a paradoxical, unexpected ending. The paper examines the specifics of satirical short stories, which is based on the original concept of the writer reflected in his satirical works. The article demonstrates that exposure is the main attribute of satire, and the basis of satire is reproof and laughter, with the help of laughter authors expose shortcomings, human vices. Thus, the article develops and introduces a characteristic feature of satire, which is a negative attitude to the images and object, at the same time, the presence of a positive ideal, against which negative features of images are revealed. Thus, the author states that comic as an aesthetic category manifests itself at different levels of the text and is a determining factor in text formation in satirical-humorous works of American authors of the early XX century.

The article attempts to analyze the correlative relationships of language and culture. Language can be considered as an instrument of culture, as one of its components and, on this basis, described through features common to all cultural phenomena. On the other hand, language and culture can be compared as an independent, autonomous semiotic system. The interaction of languages and cultures - this is an objective law of social and historical development of mankind. Any text in the conditions of real communication bears traces of the culture of the people speaking this language. The isolation from the real conditions of the discourse in the text more or less preserves the footprints. The need for linguistic and cultural studies has become a universally recognized fact, since in social reality language has the ability to influence the formation and development of a people's culture.

The formation of stylistic trend in cognitive linguistics is determined by common theoretical postulates and some notions (interpretation, conceptual information, foregrounding and so on), and it is also due to the possibility of using and creative refraction of some notions and methods of analysis developed in cognitive linguistics, as applied to stylistic investigations. The main attention is paid to the cognitive principles of distributing information in the text, cognitive basis of stylistic devices, also great attention is paid to the theory of cognitive metaphor, mental spaces and conceptual integration.
