The objective of this study is to investigate the correlation between the sense of touch when gripping a blow dryer and the emotional response based on the Kansei engineering theory. The relevant studies of the perception by hand grip are reviewed for the understanding of the consumers' emotional responses to a product. Meanwhile, this type of perception is also the key factor that determines whether they are going to buy or not. Various adjective vocabularies are reviewed in order to determine the emotional adjectives that are related to the sense of touch. A total of 35 vocabularies of this type are kept for the experiment of screening out the dryer handle specimens. After that, these emotional vocabularies are analyzed by the method of semantic differential. The resulting parameters that are obtained from real measurement serve as a reference for the design of new blow dryer styles. Furthermore, they are compared with the blow dryers that are commercially available. The correlation between the sense of touch by hand grip and the resulting emotions is a useful resource for determining the optimal blow dryer handle design. A new type of dryer handle with the unique sense of touch is created. It provides users with a new approach of interactions between the scenarios with the sense of touch by hand grip and the resulting emotions. For the past decade, user experience (UX) has developed into the core concept of human-computer interaction (HCI). It is an approach of describing the resulting emotions and responses that are generated by a user when using a product under particular operating conditions. 20 males and 20 females participated in the experiment and they are asked to carry out the tasks that are selected for the experiment in this study. The results indicated that for the one-handed operation of the new blow dryer design, its reachable range of operation is more average and it includes more types of sense of touch within its most comfortable range. It performs better than those commercially available products from the aspect of the sense of touch. By comparing the rate of improvement, a designer can perform detailed modifications on a product or obtain a better reference when making a design decisions.

Different from other events, the photography festival is more representative of aesthetics of ordinary people, and more relative to the history of a certain place. Therefore, the Photography Festival can always get positive feedback. Compared to the other more globalized cities in Taiwan, Kaohsiung still keeps most of its cultures and traditions, and is also full of natural resources and stunning landscapes. Most important, people in Kaohsiung gracefully mix the traditional and the modern lifestyle together, creating a beautiful balance of both forms. In conclusion, there are numerous ingredients for photography, such as nature, art, weddings, memorials, families, even people, and the list goes on. The research questions are: How will the Kaohsiung Photography Festival inspire the cultural and creative industries, and communicate with the international society? The study will analyze the advantages and limits of Kaohsiung city to conduct a photography festival.

Recently, low cost of the printing devices and broader availability of the stock materials makes fused deposition modeling (FDM) of 3D printing prevailing in the industries. FDM methodology is still facing many engineering challenges as a result of process induced parameters such as material composition, the appropriate temperature, raster angle, specimen size and others. In this study, tensile test specimens using polylactic acid (PLA) material were printed on a RepRap 3D printer. The tensile test conducted herein complies with ASTM-D638-02a standards. The number of perimeter, raster angle, and specimen size are studied to assess their effects on tensile strength of the specimen. The results show that the tensile strength of the specimen built with 45° is greater than those built with 0°. Smaller specimens have greater strength than their counterpart of full size specimens. Results also reveal that the specimen with the 3 layers of perimeter has the lowest tensile strength.

Invention not only comes from inspiration but also from methodology. Facing the competition of global economics, to earn a place in industries, invention and improvement are needed. The invention of service or products also called as creation means to improve or design a new look, structure or color of products. Since the need for invention is so urgent, how a company invents new products becomes a significant factor in long-term development. This paper applies TRIZ to improving heat-proof paint used on colored roof plates and also builds up boxes to test heat insulation of the paint. These tests efficiently demonstrate improvement of solar reflectance and heat resistance of the paint and proved total heat insulation of paint on roof plates are ungraded, which decreases indoor temperature and avoids the overload of air conditioning. This product achieves the goal of saving energy by decreasing amount of carbon dioxide released from air conditioning.

A new positioning scheme, which is called as Device-Free tracking, has been recently introduced. In the tracking scheme, a target can be tracked by using radio frequency tomography (RFT), even if it does not hold any transceiver deceives. In this paper, we propose an area estimation scheme based on the RFT, for the enhanced performance of indoor Device-Free tracking systems. The proposed scheme exploits cell surrounded by line-of-sight links, as well as cross point (CP) of triggered LOSLs between position-known wireless access points (APs) and wireless mobile devices (MDs), while the conventional scheme just maintains the links between APs and wireless MDs of the networks. The performance of the proposed scheme has been evaluated with computer simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can provide the enhanced performance in tracking accuracy without higher computational complexity, compared to the conventional scheme.

As an experimental research carried out to document, discuss and reflect on the problem-based learning (PBL) in emerging “Maker” courses, this study investigates a case study of “Escape the Room” Puzzle Design in a University of Technology in Taiwan. Twenty-six first-year university students have participated in this experimental research. The paper discusses the practice of PBL and related obstacles in interactive-design-learning. This study suggests the co-relation between PBL's outcomes with the number of group members, students' skill of collaboration and difficulty of tasks.

In general, an 8x8 vehicle steers with only the front two axles. In order to shorten the turning radius of the vehicle for better maneuverability, an assisted steering system could be implemented at the fourth axle. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the assisted steering systems for improving the maneuverability of 8x8 4-axle vehicles. Firstly, a steady-state mathematical steering model was established for analyzing the steering performance and driving tracks of this 8x8 vehicle with a fourth axle assisted steering system. Then, the study applied a computer-aided-design model of ADAMS to simulate the driving tracks of this vehicle. Finally, we verified these models by comparing the actual driving tracks with the simulated results of the models. This study constructed the 8x8 vehicle models with different features and evaluated the models by actual experiments. The appropriate model could be applied for the 8x8 4-axle vehicle assisted steering system design.

In this paper, we introduce a new methodology based on Complex Network Theory aimed at the prompt identification of leakages occurring in a water distribution system. The underlying idea is a data mining algorithm which, starting from real-time measurements of pressure gages installed in the system, builds a virtual complex network in which the nodes are represented by the locations of instrumentation and links are created if the correlation coefficient between pressure signals is above a given threshold. For the system analyzed in the paper, we show that the node in which the leak forms is always characterized by the lowest degree centrality with respect to all the others, thus giving the possibility of its early identification.

The super-resolution technologies can be roughly categorized into the sparse coding based methods and learning-based methods. In the sparse coding based methods, the image patches or wavelets coefficients are often utilized to establish the image patch database. However, the time-consuming searching process makes the real-time applications difficult. In the learning-based methods, the DFT or DWT coefficients are used to train the machine learning system. In this paper, we propose a novel learning-based super-resolution method with wavelet coefficients prediction scheme to rebuild the high-resolution images with high PSNR and SSIM scores. The license plate and ecological duck images are used to analyze the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the reconstructed high-resolution license plate images can have PSNR 48 dB and SSIM 0.99 and the reconstructed high-resolution ecological duck images (with high texture distribution) can have PSNR 33 dB and SSIM 0.98. The proposed method outperforms the conventional methods in terms of PSNR and SSIM. Furthermore, the efficiency of the proposed method is fast enough for the real-time applications.
