This study examines the hadith about the failure of a nation when led by women. Textually, the meaning of the hadith is contrary to social reality that exhibits the number of women to become leaders in the political sphere. Using the contextual approach of double movement hermeneutics, Fazlur Rahman, this study compares textualist and contextualist methods in interpreting the hadith based on the meaning of the text and the historical, social and political context that underlie the emergence of the hadith. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the cause of a person's inability to be a leader was not because of his gender but because of lacking the capacity to be a leader. It can be found leaders who fail because they do not have leadership capacity, only with popularity, money, and political dynasties, and less capable in leadership. Lastly, this type of leader is addressed by the hadith, not the focus on gender

This article examines the interpretation of QS. al-Araf [7]: 11-25 by dialoguing the story of the Success of Adam and social reality. Dialogue that discusses the issue of the history of hoax, the strategy of making hoax, the impact, and handling of hoax issues. This research uses qualitative with hermeneutics ma'na-cum-maghza theory. This interpretation shows that hoax are phenomena that have existed since the beginning of human kind (Prophet Adam). The unfair contestation and an inability to accept differences caused the policy tendency. This hoax strategy is carried out through logical agreement and approving of oaths that seem right. How to handle habits can only be done through internalizing the nature of sincerity and waiting as a form of grace to accept all forms of diversity, and to cultivate a critical nature of all information received. Besides, the government also needs to take and resolve not only to provide punishment to the victims but also need to get rehabilitation to avoid prolonged depression

This article aims to explain the understanding of K.H. Sholeh Darat in the Majmū'ah al-Syarī'ah al-Kaifiyah lil Awwām book by looking at the social context that occurred in the past when the hadith was delivered. This paper uses a descriptive-analytical method with a sociological-historical approach and syarh hadith. The findings show that K.H. Sholeh Darat is an ulama from Java who was present in the midst of a society is closely related with the traditions of a plural society both santri, priyai and abangan. He tends to understand the hadith textually under certain conditions, but on the other hand it tends to be contextual depending on the situation and environmental conditions he experiences or ṣāliḥun li kulli zamānin wa makānin. Besides, it is undeniable that the understanding is less from the methodology of hadith understanding that was initiated by contemporary hadith experts such as textual understanding of tasyabbuh hadith and hadith of pilgrimage to the Prophet's tomb. However, he understands the hadith about intercession contextually

This study aims to explore probability as one of the new methods of understanding the hadith about the majority of women who inhabit hell by integrating the ratio of male and female hadith at the end of time as the counting scale. The use of the thematic-multidimensionality method, this study construed and elaborated the related hadith (al-jam'u bain al-adillah). The results of the study revealed that the more women than men in the world, affecting the majority of women as residents of heaven and hell, and vice versa, affecting the minority of men as residents of heaven and hell. It proves the misogyny assumed in the hadith was not essential. Thus, it is not appropriate if this hadith used as a tool to discredit women have a bad character so that they become the most occupants of hell than men, or conversely reject the hadith that is authentic only because of reasons contrary to reason

This article aims to examine the prospects and problems of developing Sufism in the multicultural and globalization era. This research is a library research. In the era of multiculturalism and globalization that civilization, science and technology have influenced all aspects of life, including the touch of spiritual values. In this case, ideally, science and technology in Islam must be able to deliver someone to further increase the faith and piety to Allah. The advancement of science in this multicultural and global era must be useful to recognize the creation, majesty and greatness of God, so that it can encourage people to get closer to Him. But in reality, modernization only satisfies the outer needs, even though humans will remain nervous as long as their inner and divine needs are not fulfilled. It is hoped that the values of Sufism, which is spiritual conditioning, can fill the emptiness of the human soul so that the obedience of the people in carrying out the rules of Shari’a and the appreciation of religion at the level of essence and Sufism does not slip into the abyss of shirk and khurafat

Many scholars, both Muslim and Western, modern and contemporary, draw erroneous conclusions about the differences in theological flow in the context of the narration of hadith. One of the most crucial wrong conclusions is that the validity of the hadith is questioned because of ideological bias and political interest bias in the narration of the hadith. Whereas, a narrator widely labeled “Shafi’ah Rafi’ah”, an ideology that is claimed to be “extreme bid’ah” (al-ghuluw fi al-bid‘ah) by the Sunnis, namely ʻAbbâd b. Ya’qûb (w. 250 H), adorns many books of Sunni’s main hadith book. By applying the descriptive-analytical method and jarḥ wa ta‘dîl approach, the author is interested in exposing evidence that ‘Abbâd b. Ya‘qûb is a Shî’ah-Râfiḍah. The author is also interested in exploring the existence of ʻAbbâd in the Sunni main hadith books and analyzing the value of the hadith narrated by ‘Abbâd and the substance of the hadith narrated by ʻAbbâd in the books of the Sunni main hadith. This study proves that ‘Abbâd b. Ya‘qûb was a Hadith narrator of Syiah-Râfiḍah ideological. However, the existence of the ‘Abbâd as narrators calculated in the compilation Sunni’s Hadith main books (ummahât kutub al-ḥadîth) cannot be negated

This study aims to examine responses and receptions of Indonesian Muslim scholars on Western non-Muslims scholarship in the study of al-Qur’ān and tafsīr. Generally, the reception of their works can be divided into two responses: positive and negative. Yet, this study focuses on negative responses. The findings indicate that the responses are theological and polemical. The main sources of this study are works - printed and online - written by the opponents of Western scholarship in Indonesia. These works are analyzed chronologically to see the reasons behind their rejection. This study shows that Indonesian Muslim scholars responded negatively to Western scholarship on Qur’ānic studies because Western scholars have a hidden agenda in their works. This attitude, the article argues, is very polemical because it essentially generalizes the whole Western scholars have an ulterior motive for destroying Islam and al-Qur’ān. Basically, the research findings state that Western non-Muslim scholars are very diverse, and sometimes even contradictory. Thus, Muslim scholars are expected to participate in enriching Qur’ānic studies by supporting or refuting their findings, or providing new findings
