In the present article we examine the application of e-learning in the education system in the conditions of social isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The possibilities and challenges in the implementation of e-learning have been researched. Some of the most used platforms for e-learning are discussed. It has been made an analysis of these platforms, their advantages and disadvantages have been identified. Based on the results of the study, the challenges for the future development and successful use of e-learning are defined.

The paper presents an approach of using Logisim for synthesis of finite-state machines, such as counters and frequency dividers. The methodology described in the paper is used in the courses “Digital Electronics” and “Pulse and Digital Devices” for Bachelors in the specialties “Computer Systems and Technologies” and “Electronics” in the University of Ruse, in their teamwork and project-based learning.

This paper describes the distance learning organizational aspects on analog electronics course based on Learning Management System (LMS) Moodle. By using the Moodle platform, the developed course provides to the students, regardless of location and time, access to all necessary learning materials, including homework, self-assessment tests, electronic circuits and communication tools. Moreover, in the learning process, the students have opportunity to access assessments and feedback messages, which increases their engagement and motivation. In the Moodle environment the teachers have a constant global view of student progress and have a variety of tools, such as video conferencing for discussions, sending feedback messages for homework, obtaining statistics and performing additional verifications of the separate academic groups. The analysis of the student evaluation results showed that the use of the distance learning course can increase the effectiveness of the training and create skills, such as using computer-aided design systems, information technologies and teamwork.

The paper proposes a digital band-pass filter designed to extract power-line interferences from ECG signals. The filter is called “reduced” because it processes samples that are distanced in a quarter of power-line period. During the extraction of the interference, an assessment of power-line frequency is performed and an appropriate adaptation of the coefficients of the reduced filter is performed. The reduced band-pass filter is suitable for mains interference rejection, as well as for its frequency measuring.

The article presents a hardware implementation of an APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) based tracker for determining the location of an object in real time. It was developed and tested in the educational process at the Faculty of Physics and Engineering Technologies of University of Plovdiv “Paisii Hilendarski”. Students acquire lasting knowledge and develop skills for working with APRS trackers connected between GPS and radio stations that transmit data in the global APRS network. Combining modern microcontrollers with appropriate software and APRS technology, a device with many current applications is obtained.
