The aim of this study is to develop a method for controlling an LED lighting system without feedback, in which the spectral characteristics of the luminous flux mimic the daily changes of summer sunshine. At the same time, the spectral composition of the radiation and the magnitude of the luminous flux can be adjusted depending on the desire of the users, their age peculiarities, and possibilities for therapeutic influence to prevent the development of depressive states, etc.

The study is focused on a non-contact and non-destructive ultrasound method for characterisation of surfactant foams. The results were analyzed by Discrete Wavelet Transformation (DWT) of Haar implemented with fast conversion. The results by the ultrasound method were compared and validated with image analysis of the resulting foam microstructure. Identical results were obtained after comparison of the two methods.

This paper presents an inexpensive photocatalytic reactor for rapid screening of supported photocatalyst activity. The photocatalytic activity is measured in liquid-phase, based on the removal rate of Methylene blue dye. Three reaction cells are combined for simultaneous triplicate runs and Methylene blue dye concentration is monitored in situ via laser colorimetry. 3D-printed and off-the-shelf optical and electronic components were used in the device construction. The photocatalytic reactor may find applications in photocatalyst research for water decontamination.

This paper proposes a generalized switched function model for a bidirectional DC-DC converters. Typical application for such converters is as a part of an electric vehicle power topology, where different architectures are available when more than one energy source is available. For this reason the model is general enough to incorporate a cascade or a parallel power architecture. The model includes switching and conduction losses of the semiconductor devices and ESR loss of the power inductor. The load of the model is based on the load requirements for a vehicle driving a standard Cycle WLTC.

In the paper we present the results from the pilot experiment with PhD students within the scientific project „Engineering Education and Science for the Benefit of Business in the Design of Heat Transfer of Electronic Equipment” at the University of Plovdiv. A company in the field of electronics gave three PhD students a project on the topic: “Thermal design and simulations of heat transfer on a desktop-based computer system”. During the pilot experiment, doctoral students developed a thermal model of a desktop-based computer.

The paper represents the smart measurement and communication system for the in-vehicle environment monitoring. It measures and sends to the base station different type of environment parameters such as the internal temperature and humidity, the external temperature and humidity, the vehicle dynamics via MEMS inertial sensor and air quality by digital gas sensor. Additionally, the driver seat is continuously weighed on a weighing scale and all measurement data are transmitted to the smart phones or Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). The system activity is controlled by the RTC or inertial sensor alarms preliminary configured by the microcontroller.

Image classification neural networks tend to give high probabilities to images they in fact do not recognize. This paper compares three approaches to detect such out-of-distribution data: One-Class Support Vector Machine, Isolation Forest and Local Outlier Factor. The experiments show that Isolation Forest outperforms the other two approaches. However, when combining the three algorithms using a majority voter, the results show that this ensemble is better at detecting out-of-distribution data than using the Isolation Forest algorithm solely.

The time mutability method allows estimation of drift velocity of stochastic objects basing on sequences of their images. A procedure for constructing and selecting rotational radial-sections from two-dimensional images through which a velocity field can be constructed is proposed. The constructed sections are applied to determine the velocity field of a cloud field based on a series of its two-dimensional images. Numerical examples, illustrated by graphic material, have been shown.

FPGA programmable logic devices make it possible to implement known and synthesize new architectures with many applications. Increasingly, these implementations are based on systolic array that combine very good capabilities and features. The article discusses a method for shortening additional resource for change of a specific parametric value in a given computing element of the systolic architecture by embedding a small single-register module in each cell.
