Social arithmetic is material that is directly related to the application of mathematics in everyday life. But the facts show that students find it difficult to learn the material. This study was conducted with the aim of describing the identification of the difficulties of junior high school students in working on social arithmetic problems. In this research using a qualitative descriptive method. The data taken using the technique of giving test questions in the form of descriptions to students with indicators that have been set as instruments consisting of 6 questions, then further analyzing student answers. Data analysis was carried out, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The analysis aims to determine the students' difficulties in social arithmetic lessons. The object of research is 25 students in one of the Cililin State Junior High Schools. The instrument is a test question regarding social arithmetic with different levels of questions. The results showed that there were 3 types of difficulties, namely: (1) difficulties in language aspects, such as students having difficulty understanding and translating questions and even difficulty in retelling in their own language; (2) Difficulty in the prerequisite aspects, the sequence from the language aspect makes students unable to copy back what is known and what is asked, students also understand a little about the concept of determining formulas; (3) difficulties in applied aspects, for example, students have difficulty carrying out counting methods, making it difficult for students to determine the common thread from these answers. This difficulty is caused because students do not fully understand the social arithmetic material.

This study aims to analyze the mathematical problem solving ability of class VIII students in solving problems regarding the Two Variable Linear Equation System (SPLDV). The basis of this research is the weak mathematical problem solving ability of junior high school students. The subjects of this study were 5 students of class VIII SMP from Bogor Regency. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. This study uses a test tool to see the students' ability to solve mathematical problems in story problems using the Two Variable Linear Equation System (SPLDV) material. The data analysis technique used in this research is qualitative data analysis. Judging from the results of the analysis, some students still cannot solve the questions according to Polya's steps. From the results of research on 5 students, it can be seen that students' mathematical solving abilities when solving SPLDV story problems are still weak. Story questions about solving mathematical problems can help students think at a high level and be able to solve problems by following the steps given. Therefore, students still need exercises to understand the material and be able to solve problems related to solving these mathematical problems.

This research is based on the low level of students completing PISA questions. One of the factors that influence the low number of students in PISA questions is that they are not used to working on problems in real context. The purpose of this study is to describe students' mistakes in solving PISA questions on Space and Shape content based on Newman's Theory, namely: reading errors, misunderstanding, transformation errors, process skill errors and notation errors or writing answers. This study uses descriptive qualitative data collection in the form of images and sentences described. The subjects in this study were eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 9 in Cimahi City. Data collection techniques in this study are by giving a test in the form of PISA questions on Space and Shape content in 2012. Based on the results of the study, showed that students experience errors in process skills caused by the lack of PISA practice exercises which are international assessments, as well as students' weakness in skills mathematics in the form of real contexts.
