In a cashless economy, all financial dealings are conducted through the use of credit cards, debit cards, or other forms of electronic payment. There is a little amount of actual currency now in circulation. Transactions in India typically involve a disproportionately large quantity of cash. This is a significant challenge for the nation. It is essential to keep in mind that in order to achieve the transition to a cashless society, a nation requires not just high-speed internet but also solid cyber security measures. Given the country's low standing in the global cyber stakes, the primary objective of demonetization is to promote the adoption of digital transactions as an alternative to conventional ones. This is due to the fact that traditional transactions involve the exchange of physical currency. In order to ensure the safety of monetary dealings conducted online, several authorities in the area are of the opinion that the government should boost the amount of money it spends on infrastructure while simultaneously increasing the amount of oversight it exercises over the industry as a whole. At this time, India is ranked as the sixth most prolific nation for cybercrime in the world. Digital payment systems have developed, first attracting the wary interest of customers and industry professionals owing to the disruption that these systems promised to produce in the well-established e-commerce business. As its renown increased, academics started to describe it in a variety of different ways, with a focus on subjects as varied as business, information technology, accounting, and finance. According to the definition provided by Briggs and Brooks (2011), digital payment is a method of conducting electronic monetary transactions between individuals and financial institutions that is supported and facilitated by banking institutions. According to the definition provided by Peter and Babatunde (2012), an electronic method of making a payment, concluding a transaction, or moving money from one account to another is referred to as a digital payment.

The current study proposes an integrative framework for the determinants of the portfolio stock returns in the Indian stock market for the study period from 2007 to 2021 based upon the Carhart four-factor, macroeconomic and sentiment indicators using the Smart PLS methodology. The results suggest a significant relationship between the portfolio expected returns and four-factor indicators including the significant factor loadings as Rm – Rf, SMB, HML, and WML risk factors. Moreover, the momentum risk factor is reported to be negatively related to portfolio expected returns. However, an insignificant relationship was reported between the macroeconomic indicators and the portfolio's expected returns wherein inflation and the monthly change in the treasury bills hold a significant loading on the macroeconomic variables. Further, the findings document a significant relationship between the sentiment indicators and the portfolio expected returns with the significant factor loading involving Consumer Sentiment Index (CSI) and Market Turnover ratio (MTO). The findings of the study will be helpful for the various stakeholders like investors, portfolio managers, academicians, and researchers.

Today's information ecosystem, with its abundance of fake news, presents serious obstacles to accurate reporting. Several machine learning and deep learning models have been implemented to help in the detection of fake news. In this research, we evaluate the merits and weaknesses of various algorithms for spotting false news. Deep learning models LSTM and CNN are examined alongside popular machine learning models such as Gaussian Naive Bayes, Decision Tree Classifier, Random Forest Classifier, XGBoost, and LightGBM. Accuracy is the metric against which the models are measured. In terms of accuracy in classifying false news stories, the results demonstrate that the deep learning models, and in particular LSTM and CNN, perform better than the machine learning models. While CNN is good at capturing structural information and local relationships, LSTM excels at capturing long-term dependencies and language patterns. The research emphasises the superiority of deep learning models in detecting false news, providing useful insights for the creation of trustworthy detection systems. The results pave the way for more studies into false news detection methods and contribute to their development.

In the global landscape, more than one billion individuals at the bottom of the economic pyramid lack access to formal financial services. The increasing demand for a broad spectrum of financial solutions for these underserved populations has driven a market-driven revolution in microfinance. This movement has led to the development and delivery of a diverse array of financial products. Over the past three decades, the microfinance sector has experienced substantial growth and diversification, resulting in the emergence of diverse institutions and delivery models. Microfinance institutions (MFIs) play a crucial role in serving low-income customers, often extending loans without requiring collateral, in contrast to traditional financial institutions that demand security for lending to the economically disadvantaged. Furthermore, MFIs are actively engaged in providing skill-based training to enhance productivity, organizational support, and consciousness-building training to empower impoverished communities. These institutions employ innovative approaches to reach the poor, including group lending, progressive lending, regular repayment schedules, and alternatives to traditional collateral. While existing research in the microfinance sector primarily focuses on impact assessment studies, with an emphasis on understanding the effects of microfinance activities on the lives of the poor, particularly women, only a few studies have employed non-parametric linear programming-based DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) models to evaluate the efficiency of microfinance institutions globally. Notably, the studies assessing the efficiency of Indian MFIs remain limited. This study is particularly relevant given its focus on the post-crisis period, post-2010. In order to ensure the sustained operation of microfinance institutions in the long term, it is essential for MFIs to reach as many borrowers as possible while minimizing operational costs. Therefore, this research endeavours to measure the input-oriented efficiency of selected microfinance institutions in India during the period spanning from 2011 to 2017.
