Calotropis procera Leaves and Fruits Phytochemical and GCMS Analysis and Evaluation of their Methanolic Extracts Antimicrobial effect on Isolated Bacteria 牛角豆叶和果实的植物化学和gc - cms对分离菌抑菌效果的分析与评价

This study was conducted to investigate the bioactive and chemical components, ethnobotany and pharmacological activities of Calotropis procera leaves and fruits with a focus on its antimicrobial effect on isolated bacteria. To prepare the plant extract, methanol was used as the solvent, for evaluation of the bioactive compounds and their concentration in the plant extracts hence, qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis was conducted respectively. The GCMS analysis was conducted for further determination of the chemical composition of the plant parts. The antimicrobial impacts of the plant leaves and fruits methanolic extracts were carried out against assay organisms which were bacterial group and they include Standard and clinical strains of Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, Bacillus subtilis clinical, Staphylococcus aureus β-haemolytic strain and clinical, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi clinical, Klebsiella pneumonia clinical, Escherichia coli and Proteus sp. Clinical strain. This study showed the presences of some phytochemical compounds such as tannin, alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid etc. in C. procera leaves and fruits at varying concentration. The GCMS analysis revealed that Pentadecanoic acid and n-Hexadecanoic acid were detected in both leaves and fruits of C. procera extracts. Furthermore, methanolic extract of the plant leaves had antibacterial effect potency towards Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, while the fruit extract had no antibacterial effect against the assay organism.

Prevalence of Erythrophleum suaveolens (Brenan Plant) Usage in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja – Nigeria 尼日利亚阿布贾联邦首都地区(FCT) suaveolens (Brenan Plant)的流行情况

Erythrophleum suaveolens is locally described as a poisonous plant, but still been used in the control of pest of cereals. It exhibits antifungal, medicinal properties and the seeds have essential oil. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence, and usage of this plant in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nigeria. Questionnaires were used in gathering information to study the plant with respect to its uses, parts used, preparation and prevalence. Regional survey studies show an abundance of plants in parts of Abuja. The study also shows that the leave part of the plant is largely used for pesticidal purpose. The correlation between the perceptions of the respondents on the use of the plant were statistically significant, (χ2 [2; n = 100] = 25.93; p< 0.05), with a strong strength of association (Phi=0.509, Cramer’s V=0.509, p<0.05). The correlation of the perceptions of the respondents on the plant prevalence were also found to be statistically significant, (χ2 [2; n = 100] = 44.444; p< 0.05), and the strength of relationship between the variables were strong (Phi=0.667, Cramer’s V=0.667, p<0.05). This study conclusively shows the plants prevalence in FCT as a plant for pest management

Crop Biosafety: Evaluation of Erythrophleum suaveolens (Brenan) Leaves Extracts Phytotoxicity on the Germination and Growth Characteristics of Maize (Zea mays L.) 作物生物安全性:苏威红叶提取物对玉米发芽和生长特性的植物毒性评价

This study aims to evaluate the phytotoxicity effect in Erythrophleum suaveolens leaves extracts on germination and growth of Oba 98, Oba super 6, Samaz 52 and Sanaz 37 maize seeds varieties obtained from Abuja, Nigeria. The maize seeds were subjected to treatment with exposure to methanol and water extract of E. suaveolens in different concentrations of 100, 10 and 1% respectively. A control group was set up without treatment. Both treated and untreated seeds were planted in petri-dish in the laboratory and their germination and growth were monitored for 8 days. Germination was only experienced with the 1% methanol of the E. Suaveolens with a mean germination percentage of 33.33±28.87, mean radical length (mm) of 24.67±24.03 and mean plumule length (mm) of 13.33±12.22 treated Oba98 seeds. All other maize seeds germination was inhibited by the extracts used for the treatment. The control group germination and growth were not inhibited. The extract treatment shows a significant relationship with the three (3) parameters; germination percentage, radical and plumule length with F(6, 84) =7.833, 9.688 and 8.567 respectively at p<0.05. E. suaveolens extract demonstrated allelopathic and phytotoxicity characteristics by inhibiting the germination and growth of maize seeds after 8 days of planting. This study clearly shows that E. suaveolens demonstrated allelopathic characteristics by inhibiting the germination and growth of maize seeds after 8 days of planting. Therefore, it could be said to have a phytotoxic effect on Zea mays.

Clonal Structure and Genetic Diversity of Natural Syringa pinnatifolia var. alanshanica Assessed by ISSR 天然山楂紫丁香克隆结构及遗传多样性的ISSR分析

Clonal diversity,growth structure,and genetic diversity of 8 natural Syringa pinnatifolia var.alanshanica populations were assessed by ISSR molecular markers.Results showed that 16 ramets of 3 individual genets shared the same genotype,whereas 136 genotypes were differentiated among the other 239 samples from 7 populations.Clonal diversity revealed that S.pinnatifolia var.alanshanica was a phalanx clonal species and each population was composed of several clones.Most genets contained one ramet and the highest quantity of one genet consisted of 8 ramets.A relatively high clonal diversity of genotype Simpson's index(D=0.994) and distributional uniformity of genotype Fager's index(E= 0.985) was detected.Individuals per genotype(NC) and mean genotype proportion(PD) were 1.729 and 0.578,respectively,at the species level.In addition,high genetic diversity was detected at both population and species level.The coefficient gene differentiation(GST) was 0.320,indicating less differentiation among populations than within populations.

Inter-Specific Correlations among Dominant Populations of Woody Syringa reticulata Communities in Wulu Mountain Nature Reserve,Shanxi Province of China 山西五鹿山自然保护区木本丁香群落优势种群的种间相关性

We selected 34 dominant species according to frequency and studied interspecific associations and correlations using variance ratio(VR) analysis of the overall association and χ2-test,Pearson correlation coefficient and Spearman rank correlation coefficient based on 2 ×2 contingency tables of species presence/absence data.No significant negative correlations were observed among the 34 dominant species,which suggested that the forest was not stable.Interspecific correlations among 561species-pairs of the 34 dominant species showed that 216,149 and 206 species-pairs were positively correlated,345,412 and 365 species-pairs were negatively correlated,and the positive and negative correlation ratios were 0.626,0.362 and 0.564,based on χ2-test for 2 ×2 contingency table.Spearman rank correlation was more sensitive than the Pearson correlation.

Content of Endogenous Phytohormones and Isoenzymes of Peroxidase in Male and Female Pistacia chinensis Plants Bunge Leaves 黄连木雌雄叶片内源激素及过氧化物酶同工酶含量的研究

To reveal the physiology differences in male and female plants of Pistacia chinensis Bunge,the contents of gibberellin(GA3),abscisic acid(ABA),indole-3-aceticacid(IAA),spermidine(Spd),spermine(Spm),putrescine(Put) and peroxidase isoenzyme in the leaves and petioles of male and female plants were determined.The contents of GA3 in female and male plants reached maximum values of 100.9 μg/g FW and 92.9 μg/g FW,respectively,on October 8,and showed very significant differences from June to September.The leaf ABA contents in male plants were higher than that in female plants,and showed very significant differences on May 21 and July 8,and reached minimum values of 222.0 ng/g FW and 340.1 ng/g FW,respectively,on May 21.The leaf IAA contents in male plants were higher than that in female plants,with the contents in female and male maximum values of 984.8 ng/g FW and 1000.6 ng/g FW,respectively,reached on September 8,and very significant differences exhibited on August 8.The ratios of leaf GA3/ABA in female plants were very significantly higher than that in male plants from July to September,and reached a maximum difference value of 42.8 on September 8.The maximum difference value of leaf IAA/ABA in male and female plants was 0.54 on May 21.The contents of Spd in female and male plants reached maximum values of 47.9 μg/g FW and 42.8 μg/g FW,respectively,in July,and there existed significant or very significant differences.The leaf Spm contents in male plants were higher than that in female plants,showing very significant differences on October 8 and reaching maximum values of 24.3 μg/g FW and 34.5 μg/g FW,respectively.The leaf Put contents in male plants were lower than that in female plants,with significant or very significant differences observed(except on May 21),and maximum values of 156.0 μg/g FW and 135.1 μg/g FW,respectively,on September 8.Significant differences were observed in peroxidase isoenzymes among male and female leaves and petioles.The peroxidase isoenzyme bands in female plant leaves were POD-1,POD-2,POD-3,POD-4,and POD-5,but the male plants bands were POD-2,POD-3,POD-4,and POD-5.The peroxidase isoenzyme bands in female plant petioles were POD-1',POD-3',POD-4',and POD-5',but the male plant bands were POD-2',POD-4',and POD-5'.The POD-1 was the endemic band in female plants leaves;POD-1' and POD-3' were the endemic bands in female plant petioles,and POD-2' was the endemic band in male plant petioles.From the above trial,we obtained the conclusions that the leaf ABA,IAA,Spd,Spm and Put contents were related to P.chinensis Bunge sex,and the peroxidase isoenzyme bands in leaves and petioles were the efficiency index to identify sex of P.chinensis Bunge.

Molecular Evolution ofpsbD Gene in Ferns:Selection Pressure and Co-evolutionary Analysis 蕨类植物psbd基因的分子进化:选择压力与协同进化分析

The D2 protein of the PhotosystemII(PSII) reaction center complex is encoded by the chloroplast gene psbD. To gain a better understanding of the adaptive radiation of core leptosporangiate ferns in low ̄light environmentsꎬ we sequenced psbD in twelve species and collected eight published sequences to represent extant ferns in order level. We then evaluated the selection pressure of D2 protein based on ω values ( nonsynonymous synonymous substitution ratio). The results of statistical tests based on different models indicated that most sites and branches were under strong negative selectionꎬ but tree ferns exhibited a slower evolutionary rate and higher ω value compared with other ferns. Co ̄evolution analysis based on different approaches showed that the D2 ̄R168ꎬ D2 ̄H245 and D2 ̄M272 of tree ferns were involved in the same co ̄evolution network.
