A technique which accounts for the hardware reliability of devices and systems of protective relay of power systems is described. The model developed by the authors to account for reliability takes into account the work of functional and test diagnostic devices, and also checks of the serviceability of devices of protection after their refusal to function. It is remarked that the introduction of automatic and automated diagnostic devices has resulted in the necessity for an estimation of parameters of reliability of protection in "transitional" modes between regular checks of serviceability. Algorithms of simulating modeling of protective relays with the purpose of accounting its parameters of reliability are described.

New method of strength account of the rational projects is offered. Method includes algorithm of weight optimum projection of multilayer plates (continuous and with holes) with the given variants of exterior loads and approach to construction of initial failure condition for the found optimum projects. For considered plates the numerical results are obtained and the comparative analysis of strength conditions of the various rational projects is carried out.

A nontraditional stator current limitation technique in a high-performance induction motor drive is proposed. The advantage of the method is the ability to control the phase of the stator current vector under the current limitation condition of the drive. Using this technique, it is possible to increase the quick-action of the drive in transient processes with significant changes in the magnitude of the motor flux. Experimental results and functional diagrams of the technique's implementation are discussed.

Spark plasma sintering (SPS) is a new process for sintering of various kinds of materials. The SPS method was tested in the fabrication of porous materials having high strength and porosity. 316L stainless steel powders classified (44-63 /spl mu/m and 63-75 /spl mu/m) were used as raw materials. After inserting and tapping of powder in a cylindrical graphite mold with inner diameter of 15 mm, SPS was performed in the temperature range of 600-1000/spl deg/C for 1 min with heating rate of 100/spl deg/C/min in vacuum atmosphere and applied pressure of 15 MPa. The apparent porosity of specimens decreased from about 55% to 31% with increase of sintering temperature from 600 to 1000/spl deg/C. Deep dimple traces of ductile fracture were observed on fracture surfaces of sintered bodies with high sintering temperature (900-1000/spl deg/C) due to the strong neck formation and growth. Using alumina supporter and through control of punch length, porosity could be controlled from about 53% to 40% at a sintering temperature of 900/spl deg/C, and the hardness value was increased.

Nusselt heat exchange problem for steady state laminar fluid flow in a round tube was solved exactly as a row of eigenfunctions with decomposition coefficients being depended of initial temperature profile on tube inlet. These eigenfunctions in turn was found to be exponential row of radius coordinate with coefficients to be a function of eigenvalues. Analytical expression for eigenvalues was also found out. All analytical results including exact Nusselt criterion was checked up numerically using finite difference method.

Surface morphologies of thin dielectric films are studied with atomic force microscopy. It is shown that the deposition temperature greatly affects the structure and the surface roughness of the films. Films deposited at room temperature are found to be amorphous and smooth. Films grown at 200/spl deg/C are amorphous, but also contain single inclusions of crystallites. Finally, fine grain films with quasiperiodic wave-like surface topography are grown at 300-500/spl deg/C. The introduction of S and Se atoms is observed to suppress 3D island growth and to decrease the surface roughness of the films. Both root-mean-square roughness and fractal dimension are proposed to characterize film surfaces.

Capsaicin(CAP : 8-methyl-N-vanillyl-6-noneamide) is a major pungent component of hot peppers. The vanilloid compounds, capsaicin is a quinone analogue that inhibit the NADH-plasma membrane electron transport system. We previously reported that CAP induces apoptosis in Korean stomach cancer cell line, SNU-1. In the present study, the mechanism of CAP-induced apoptotic cell death was investigated. Because disruption of the mitochondrial transmembrane potential(A U' m) is a common metabolic alteration in all apoptotic processes, we have evaluated the role of mitochondrial permeability transition in CAP-induced apoptosis. Using a cytofluorimetric approach, we have determined that DNA nuclear loss is proceeded by an increase of the production of reactive oxygen species(R0S) and by a subsequent A U' m dissipation in stomach cell line. We suggest that ROS generation by inhibition of the NADH-dependent plasma membrane electron transport system resulted in the oxidation of mitochondrial megachannel pores that allows for the disruption of A U' m.

The mathematical model of non-aqueous liquid migration in aquifer is presented. The model includes description of the two-phase flow in porousmedia, dynamics of temperature field and transport in the system: aqueous phase organic phase porous material. Stochasticdeterministic approach has been used for numerical realization of the model. Deterministic methods were used for description of the pressure field in the porous media, mass transport between the liquid phases and porous material, heat conduction. The two phase filtration of the liquids and the convective heat and mass transport were described stochastically with wandering stream lines. Analysis of non-aqueous pollutants migration feathers is presented. Two-phase flow hydrodynamic instability development due to unsteady heat and mass transfer has been simulated.
