The research on stability of the plates was conducted by a Ritz method on the basis of the Alfootov-Balabooh functional. A number of problems of stability of ring plates were solved with thermal loading influence. For the case of simultaneous action of external pressure and temperature fields, the mutual influence of loading and heating on the stability of plates was considered. The problem of stability of a square isotropic plate with central circular hole was solved.

Molybdeum disulfide (MoS/sub 2/) is a widely used solid lubricant material for space and bearing applications. In this study, the deposition of MoS/sub 2/ thin films by RF magnetron sputtering was studied with regard to the microstructural change and mechanical properties. The coating parameters, such as working pressure, RF power, substrate temperature, and bias voltage, were varied to determine how these parameters affected the film morphology and mechanical properties of the deposited films. The best wear properties and critical load were observed with the film deposited at 70/spl deg/C. The critical load increased with increase of sputter etching time.

A new step-integration method for thermal diffusivity measurements in thin sheet materials by the converging thermal wave technique is considered. This method is based on an integration of the temperature evolution curve with respect to the current time during two consecutive intervals of time, the duration of the first one being set beforehand and the completion time of the second one being obtained from the equality of the first and the second integrals. The use of the integrating operations with the following equalization of the integrals minimizes errors caused by heat loss and signal noise while the error due to the pulse duration is negligible, since a part of the experimental temperature evolution curve is properly taken. This method is of importance to develop an automated system for thermal diffusivity measurement.

The possibility of automated man-machine systems (or ergotechnical systems-ETS) design based on probability and fuzzy modeling is discussed. Object-oriented kind structural designing technology is observed. Integration methods of the effectivity indices for the probability and fuzzy models are inspected. Quality and reliability of ETS functioning is analyzed. A common scheme of the serial ETS optimization on the object-oriented functional nets (OOFN) is described. Required and sufficient optimality conditions are inspected. A method of the direct variant selection with the help of the metaproduction system and the logical conclusion mechanism is presented.

This paper considers methods of experimental design for discriminating between two rival stochastic dynamic models. Maximum likelihood estimator of unknown system parameters along with discriminating algorithm based on likelihood ratio criterion are discussed. One approach to the optimal input design leading to the sequential scheme of discriminating experiment is established. The sequential input design procedure is illustrated by numerical example.

The real interpolation method (RIM) of the low-order robust controllers design is proposed. It is based on the use of the linear real transformation. The RIM based controller parametric design includes the use of interpolation conditions to approximate the designed system transfer function to the reference system. The method allows one to design optimal systems for fast transient response and robustness. The robustness is estimated by system's overshoot. The proposed method allows one to increase the robustness due to the decrease in systems' response speed. The advantages of the proposed method include: 1) the design is performed on the basis of quality direct indices; and 2) it includes the transfer functions with irrational and transcendental parts. In this paper the numerical example of the given order controller design is demonstrated.

Iron disilicide is a prospective thermoelectric material for generators, available for mass production. It has low efficiency (ZT/spl sim/0.2-0.4). There are ways to increase the efficiency: particle size decrease (to nanoscale), unconventional alloying elements and multicomponent doping, heterophase additives, 2D (3D) superlattice production. The aim of this work is to synthesise mechanochemically the nanocomposite based on doped /spl beta/-FeSi/sub 2/ and to investigate the influence of multicomponent doping on the thermoelectric properties. The mechanical alloying of elements was carried out in an intensive planetary ball mill with ball acceleration of 600 m/sec/sup 2/. The intensity factor was varied by different ball diameters (3-15 mm). The powder samples were analyzed by the X-ray diffractometry. After mechanical alloying, the phase content was mixtures of FeSi, /spl beta/-FeSi/sub 2/ and Fe(Si). The average particle sizes were 200-1000 nm. The reaction sintering leads to nanocomposites with 20-100 nm grains. After compacting and low temperature annealing, the phase content was the thermoelectric beta-iron disilicide. The dopants status and electrical characteristics were investigated.

Chordal rings are commonly used as a network structures for distributed computing systems. The overall robustness of the given system depends on a network structure and two general parameters qualifying the availability of system components namely the availability of nodes (Sn) and availability of links (Sl). We use the Monte Carlo method to compute the value of structural fault tolerance function for the given network structure defined by a corresponding chordal ring and particular values of parameters Sn and Sl.
