When the Dutch linguist Dr. Petrus Voorhoeve was commisioned in 1942 to document and transliterate manuscripts that were kept as heirlooms by the people of Kerinci, Sumatra, he encountered more than 250 manuscripts, most in Malay language, and in three different scripts: Old Sumatran, Kerinci Incung script, and Jawi (Arab-Malay). The manuscripts were recorded and transliterated in a book entitled Tambo Kerinci (TK). TK 214 is a manuscript on tree bark in Old Sumatran scipt entitled Nitisarasamuccaya. This code of law was composed in the 14th century in Dharmasraya, West Sumatra. Written possibly during Adityawarman’s reign. In the Tanjung Tanah heirloom collection is a second code of law, TK 215, written in Arab-Malay script on paper, is essentially an 18th century re-interpretation of TK 214.

This research examined the Haqqul Islam (HI) manuscript by Kiai Hasan Dimejo. The manuscript belongs to KH. Amin Ridlo and is stored in the Manbaul Anwar Islamic Boarding School, Krasak Mojotengah Village, Wonosobo. The manuscript has been digitized and can be accessed through the website https://lektur.kemenag.go.id/ with the collection code LKK_WONOSOBO2015_MAR04. Apart from editing the text of Haqqul Islam, this research aims to explain the obligations of mukalaf Muslims according to the views of Kiai Hasan Dimejo. Apart from that, it was stated that the contents of the manuscripts were considered important because they contained a description of the flow of Islamic preaching during the pre-independence period and were the beginning of the birth of the oldest Islamic congregation in Indonesia. This research was conducted using descriptive and qualitative methods. The contents of the text were analyzed by referring to the theory of philology to describe the content of the text and combined with Abrams's pragmatic approach to reveal the values contained in the text. There are 21 points on the obligations of Muslim Mukalaf, according to Kiai Hasan Dimejo in this manuscript. Through analysis using the pragmatic approach of the Abrams model, it can be concluded that the HI manuscript contains five nuances of meaning, namely nuances of religious meaning, nuances of educational meaning, nuances of social meaning, nuances of linguistic meaning, and nuances of doctrinal meaning. The results of this research are in the form of information for the public and also make it easier for them to understand and apply the teachings contained in the HI manuscript regarding the obligations of a Muslim Mukalaf.
手稿已数字化,可通过网站 https://lektur.kemenag.go.id/ 访问,收藏代码为 LKK_WONOSOBO2015_MAR04。

Isim in the Sundanese tradition or rajah (Javanese, Malay/Indonesian) is related to the science of kanuragan arising from the use of magical objects, namely objects written with Arabic inscriptions or certain symbols for certain purposes as well. Isim is believed by its users to have supernatural powers that are beneficial to their interests. In traditional medicine, apart from medicinal plants or herbs, isim is also used as part of the treatment. Sundanese medicinal manuscripts in the collection of the Sri Baduga Museum, West Java Province, inform that there is treatment through the use of isim. In addition to describing various diseases and methods of treatment, the Sundanese medical texts are also accompanied by pictures of isim. It is this image of isim that becomes the object of the problem for understanding the form and function of isim text in its medical system. The aims of the research are (1) to know the form and function of the isim, and (2) to understand the content of the isim. The analytical descriptive method or content analysis is the choice for dissecting drug manuscripts considering the method used begins with collecting data, compiling or classifying it, analyzing and interpreting it. The research results show that there is almost no connection between occult writing and the disease itself. There is no need for reasoning or rationalization to look for a relationship between the disease being suffered and the medical terms, except for the strength to believe in what one is doing. Isim will not function without trust in the isim.

This study analyzes the meaning of the text of the interpretation of Surat Al-Fatihah contained in the Kajen Pati Manuscript Bundle. This study aims to explain the meaning or content in the interpretation of Surat Al-Fatihah in the Kajen Pati Manuscript Bundle. This study uses a philological approach and isyari interpretation. A philological approach is an approach taken to analyze ancient or handwritten texts. Meanwhile, isyari's interpretation is an interpretation that explains or explains the meaning of the content of the Qur'an, which is contrary to its zahir meaning. In this study, using a qualitative analytical descriptive method means a qualitative approach that is the descriptive analysis which means merely describing the content or purpose contained in the text of the interpretation of Surat Al-Fatihah. The author found four meanings contained in the text of the interpretation of Surat Al-Fatihah Bundle Manuscript Kajen, namely first, the meaning of the spirit of bismillah as the initial foundation in doing something in everyday life. Second, the importance of the eyes and speech in using it must be accompanied or based on affection. Third, the meaning of the teaching of totality in studying something, especially religion, means not being half measured in studying theology. Fourth, the purpose of life is to be grateful.

Archives and ancient manuscripts are actually categorized in the primary historical sources that will determine the success of Indonesian historiography products. However, this success faced new challenges with a change in perspective from Indonesia-centric which was inclined to colonial-centric because of the dominant use of colonial archives from Indonesian manuscripts. The history of Indonesia, which should have been written with original Indonesian sources, is now more dominantly written with colonial sources. This article aims to criticize which is more dominant between local archives and manuscripts in their use to reconstructing Indonesian history. This paper also aims to prove Bambang Purwanto’s theory regarding the disorientation of Indonesian Historiography which turned away from local manuscripts oral sources. Descriptive-qualitative method is used here, to analyze influential historiographical works in Indonesia in making use of local manuscripts and archives. The results of the analysis show that historians face more challenges in using local manuscripts than colonial archives. Colonial archives are considered more straightforward and comprehensive in proving historical witness, while ancient manuscripts tend to have fictional elements that must be separated from the factual elements in them.

Traces of the past can be seen in Pirasat and Taj As Salatin which show the attitude of locals towards foreign nations. This study aims to reveal the resistance of the locals as reflected in the two texts to add information about the history of the colonial period in Indonesia. This study will use a literature comparison method with a postcolonial review as the main instrument in reviewing the resistance of locals to the invaders in the Pirasat and Taj As Salatin. The form of resistance is shown by the locals by giving bad descriptions of people with the physical shape or form of the invaders, like blue eyes (embarrassing) and yellow hair (not virtuous). The mention of these body parts refers to Europeans as evidenced by the presentation of the distribution of blue eyes and yellow hair which are very common in that region. The results of the research from the two texts show that the locals have shown passive-aggressive resistance as seen from the physical mention of the invaders who although not explicitly stated as colonizers, it is certain that there can be no locals with that physical description.

As a note written directly by the copyist/owner of the manuscript outside the text of the manuscript, the colophon can serve as a source of information about the history of its manuscript. Not only that, colophons can also function as a source of past knowledge outside the manuscript’s tradition. This is as shown by the colophons contained in the Malay manuscripts collection of A.B. Cohen Stuart stored in the National Library of Indonesia. This research on colophon manuscripts was carried out using descriptive methods and philological work steps to analyze data sources in the form of colophons. The results of the analysis, it can be concluded that 38 Malay manuscripts from the collection of Cohen Stuart are estimated to have been collected during his duty as conservator at Bataviaasch Genootschap, Batavia (Jakarta) in 1862-1871. These manuscripts were copied and/or owned by as many as 22 copyists/owners who lived in 16 villages in Jakarta in the period 1863-1869, except for two manuscripts which are estimated to be dated to the 1840s. Most of the manuscripts were copied for commercial purposes, i.e. for rent or sale. In addition, this colophon analysis also reveals some of the history of the city of Jakarta in the 19th century, including the structure of government, the villages in Batavia, as well as the formation of the Betawi ethnicity and the livelihoods of its people.
