The article reports on the identification of the inventory of the water towers in Western Poland, the territory consisting of nine main administrative units called voivodeships. It presents the inventory of water towers both in statistical and locational terms, diagnosing architectural typologies and examining the quantitative parameters of the resource as well as its distribution in particular voivodeships. An attempt has been made here to show the resource by postulating the introduction of the concept of historic networked architectural resource (HiNAR). In this particular case, the element of historic heritage must be considered in the context of the network of buildings, as its component, so that it should be possible to read its meaning and the historical values accumulated in particular structures. This approach enables us to look more precisely at the changes in the formation of architectural form in subsequent decades.

This paper discusses the planning and spatial transformation of the municipality of Ogrodzieniec in the context of the idea of ‘a village in a park space’. The rural area of the Ogrodzieniec municipality has undergone significant landscape transitions over the past several decades. The dynamic development of single-family housing has generated the greatest amount of functio-spatial and compositional and landscape problems. The idea of ‘a village in a park space’ is to counter these negative development trajectories. It defines general perspectives of rural area development in a spirit of sustainable development.

This article aims at discussing the issue of relation between an existing historic building and modern technology, which may lead to upgrading the historic building to parameters of a nearly zeroenergy building. It focuses on the possibility to adjust the facility to contemporary forms of using without considerable prejudice to its historic substance and identity, on contrary, with due respect for the old tissue in the context of NZEB parametrisation. The adjustment refers to innovative solutions allowing upgrade of the building by using the most effective technologies based on renewable energy, improved power efficiency of the structure, technical equipment, exterior and interior cladding and meeting requirements connected with minimum global cost in the life cycle assessment of the building.

The public spaces of small towns play an important role in the lives of residents. They have commercial, service, recreational and social functions. They should be adapted to the needs of residents. In recent years there have been transformations within the public spaces of many towns of Subcarpathian region. The study includes the results of questionnaire research of residents regarding their opinion on the changes made. The essence of social participation based on dialogue between citizens and local authorities as well as benefits resulting from its application were also indicated. Spatial observation, juxtaposed with public opinion, allowed for the identification of significant issues affecting the perception and use of urban spaces.

It is important for sustainability to reduce the energy demand of both existing and planned buildings. The requirements for workspace lighting clearly define the minimum light intensity that must be provided. The aim of the study was to verify if the selected office layouts independently fulfill the requirements of the Polish Norm for lighting of workplaces without the use of artificial light sources. The analysis took into consideration standard working hours of office buildings, that is from January to December, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Interpretation of the obtained data allowed to select the layouts that maintain the most stable efficiency of natural daylight.

Almost all over the world, archaeological museums present collections of prehistoric small houses made of clay, bronze and wood. These artefacts were part of tombs equipment, some of high artistic level. Models discussed in the article represent five different cultures from distant geographic regions: Egypt, Italy, Northern Poland, Western Mexico, and Honshu in Japan. Since these cultures were additionally separated on a timeline this excluded interaction between them. A number of articles published contains information about such artefacts. However, according to the best knowledge of the author none has tried to juxtapose and compare the oldest architectural models.

The article provides a preliminary analysis of selected factors that influence city visual perception, in particular tall buildings, in the cityscape. The research area includes selected European cities of a diverse urban structures and cityscape types. The cities also represent various strategies for the development of tall buildings. The article discusses tall building observation parameters, perception conditions and urban composition and geometry. It also describes techniques of digital cityscape analysis used by the author in her planning practice.

This article deals with the issues regarding the accommodation of catering establishments in a residential area and to ensure pedestrian accessibility to them to save time and reduce the load on the city's transport system. It is based on a three-stage service system and the average walking speed of the economically active population. To solve the unsatisfactory location of catering establishments in a residential area, a formula for calculating the service radius for each type of catering establishment, and classify catering establishments into fast, leisure, and mixed types are proposed. To conclude, with the implementation of the attached calculations in urban planning, the location of types of catering establishments in the residential area could solve the set goals.

The article outlines how views on residential architecture have changed in recent years. Sustainable development, ecology and balance are recently trendy concepts that have also been reflected in architecture. They manifested themselves through a new approach to designing the living space. It began to be approached more practically, inventively and creatively. Initially in the United States, and then in other countries, the architectural trend known as Tiny Houses began to appear. It referred to minimalism, savings and anti-consumerism. In Poland, this designing trend is still relatively new, but it is a challenge for the future in architecture.
