Finding one’s way around various methods and guidelines for doing rigorous qualitative research: A comparison of four epistemological frameworks 在进行严格的定性研究的各种方法和指导方针中寻找出路:四种认识论框架的比较

The expanding popularity of qualitative research, and more particularly case study research, in the field of Information Systems, Organization and Management research, seems to have been accompanied by an increasing divergence in the forms that this research takes, and by recurrent criticisms concerning its rigor. This paper develops a heuristic framework for guiding the design of a rigorous case study depending on the research’s goal and epistemological framework, as well as for guiding its evaluation. It also highlights the fundamental reasons – namely the epistemological ones – for differences in the guidelines offered in the literature for conducting high quality case studies. In agreement with numerous authors, we argue for contingent evaluation criteria. We supplement these authors’ works in two ways: (1) we consider various epistemological frameworks that do not appear in the classifications that they use, especially including critical realism and pragmatic constructivism; (2) we propose a set of contingent criteria to be used as a heuristic device for critically and knowledgeably building rigorous case studies within different epistemological traditions.

Astérix and the Knowledge Management 2.0: An exploration of KMS 2.0 appropriation by the myth of Gallic Village astimrix与知识管理2.0:高卢村神话对知识管理2.0的占用探讨

KM processes in companies have profoundly changed in recent years. They became 2.0 KM processes that aim to transform the firm and are driven by a new approach of knowledge in line within 2.0 organisations. These 2.0 knowledge management systems involved oraganisational modes that disrupt with those that previously guided firms’ performance. This can sometimes lead to paradoxical organizational dysfunctions as witnessed by the difficulties faced by some traditionally hierarchical French companies. Through a case study of Constructor and a theoretical background on Information Systems appropriation in organizations and myths in management, we show how the Asterix myth contributes to understand how 2.0. KMS are appropriated in such companies. We find evidence of similarities regarding knowledge and Knowledge Management between the Asterix’ myth and the behaviours and practices concerning knowledge management within Constructor . As a result, the Asterix’ myth may be a relevant perspective for understanding the obstacles, advantages and appropriations of 2.0. KMS within French organizations. This paper contributes to research papers dealing with the impact of symbolism in IS appropriation.

Innovation and IT in an International Context est un ouvrage collectif recueillant les resultats de plusieurs recherches dont l’ambition est d’analyser les pratiques actuelles d’innovation a la lumiere du role tenu par Technologies de l’Information (TI). De plus, ces recherches mettent l’accent sur la dimension internationale des activites de Recherche & Developpement (R&D) et de Developpement de Nouveaux Produits ( NPD ), element de contexte essentiel du fonctionnement economique contemporain. Adoptant une approche multidisciplinaire, ces travaux font apparaitre plusieurs thematiques tout au long de l’ouvrage, telles que les questions de design , de gestion des connaissances, de distance ou de diversite des acteurs et des comportements. Vingt-cinq contributeurs ont participe a la redaction de ce livre, sous la coordination de Franz Rowe (Universite de Nantes) et Dov Te’eni (Tel Aviv University). Les redacteurs sont majoritairement en poste dans des etablissements europeens, mais aussi nord-americains et du Moyen-Orient. Certaines contributions ont ete ecrites avec le concours d’acteurs du monde du conseil ou de la gestion de projet. Le chapitre introductif redige par les deux coordinateurs propose une analyse de ce qu’est l’innovation aujourd’hui, dans une approche systemique relevant de l’economie, de la strategie, du management operationnel ainsi que des systemes d'information. Ce chapitre precise differentes definitions et terminologies associees a l’innovation, utiles pour la lecture de la suite de l’ouvrage. L’accent est mis sur l’innovation permise par les TI ( IT-enabled innovation ) dans un contexte international et d’innovation ouverte. Ce chapitre introductif est l’occasion de presenter et relier les chapitres qui suivent, classes en trois parties distinctes. La premiere partie intitulee Strategizing the R&D Function traite des questions d’organisation strategique des activites de R&D et NPD . Cette partie developpe notamment les questions d’ouverture, de distance et de specialisation dans des approches strategiques et economiques. Le theme de la performance de l’innovation y est analyse selon plusieurs angles : en termes de brevets, de fusions & acquisition, ainsi que d’exportations. Les lecteurs particulierement interesses par le domaine de l’ open innovation pourront se reporter au chapitre 1 qui reprend les enjeux actuels en etudiant notamment les facteurs et les mecanismes de transfert de connaissance qui y sont associes. Le chapitre 2 poursuit ces questions de connaissance en etudiant statistiquement le lien entre les bases de connaissances d’une firme et sa capacite a creer de la connaissance nouvelle sous forme de brevets. Enfin, le chapitre 3 etudie la maniere dont les firmes beneficient de retombees de connaissances dans des clusters industriels. La contribution des différents types d’agents à un usage performant d’un PLMS 不同类型的代理对有效使用PLMS的贡献

La maniere dont un utilisateur fait usage du systeme d’entreprise mis a sa disposition peut generer des contreperformances du systeme d’information. Cet article s’interesse au role des managers et de la direction des systemes d’information dans le controle de l’usage des systemes d’entreprise.Avec une approche qualitative, nous etudions l’usage d’un systeme PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) chez un constructeur automobile. Ce type de systeme est generalement installe pour ameliorer l’integration informationnelle lors du processus de developpement de nouveaux produits (DNP). Nous analysons les contributions des utilisateurs, des managers et des systemes logiciels dans l’activation, puis dans le maintien du potentiel informationnel du systeme PLM.Nos resultats sur les usages des systemes PLM sont autant de recommandations concretes pour les managers responsables de l’usage performant de ces systemes. Ils permettent notamment de distinguer les aspects de l’usage d’un systeme logiciel qui necessitent une intervention manageriale posant des regles strictes communes aux differents utilisateurs de ceux qui semblent necessiter des marges de manœuvre laissees aux utilisateurs, sous peine d’inhiber leur appropriation du systeme logiciel. Cependant, l’apport principal de cet article est sa modelisation des situations d’usage et du role que peuvent, et devraient, y jouer les managers et la DSI, tout au long de la vie du systeme. Ces resultats ouvrent la voie a des comparaisons entre systemes d’entreprise sur le besoin de controle de leurs usages. Enfin, d’un point de vue methodologique, nous operationnalisons d’une maniere inedite le modele de l’integration informationnelle de Grieves (2006).

Characterizing the Serious Game and Assessing Learning Goals 严肃游戏的特征与学习目标评估

Serious games (SGs) are video or computer games designed for training or educational purposes. Thanks to the wide variety of opportunities they provide, e.g. interactivity, immersion, simulation, etc they have become universally embraced in both academic and non-academic fields alike. However, the selection of the most suitable SG with regard to a given learning goal seems to be less well addressed in the literature. This paper tries to bridge this research gap by building a new Characterizing and Assessing Serious Games Grid (CASGG). The research was based on a design science method. The CASGG was built during a series of meetings (i.e. working group with professionals (education experts), brainstorming with students and teachers) and pilot tests with students. Subsequently, it was tested in the higher education field with 41 graduate students to assess their learning performance according to leaning goals using a specific SG. The tested SG was StarBank the Game and the learning goal was to understand the principal mechanisms of banking. The findings revealed that there is no difference in terms of learning performance between students who have used the SG and those who have followed the theoretical course. With reference to learning satisfaction, the first category of students expressed much more enthusiasm and motivation for learning. Using the SG was for them more enjoyable and engaging. The game play succeeded in capturing their attention, challenging their curiosity and enhancing their interest in the theoretical knowledge. Moreover, owing to this research the design science approach proved most suitable for the building and application of the CASGG by demonstrating its practical feasibility and use. Regarding the context of SGs, the CASGG is actually not only an empirical elaboration of an SG assessment instrument, but also a starting point for further research in this area.

Serious games and human resources management: a mapping in the CAC 40 companies 严肃游戏与人力资源管理:一个在CAC 40公司中的映射

Since almost ten years, serious games have become more and more popular in large French companies, especially with human resource managers who use them to recruit, integrate, train, support, develop, communicate and sensitize. However, few research papers are dedicated to them in the academic literature in management science. The purpose of this paper is to build a typology of serious games based on their use in human resource management. To construct this typology, an inventory of all serious games used by CAC40 companies was made. 114 serious games have been listed for the 43 listed companies since December 2011. These games have been classified into three categories and 11 sub-categories based on their uses by destination. Each of these categories is further studied and characterized more accurately from examples. Gathering information will be done in four successive steps from four different types of sources which will link data and improve reliability. This is the first study to demonstrate that all CAC40 companies use serious games and seven of them have adopted at least five. This research is also the first to offer a detailed typology of serious games based on their use in human resource management. The discussion will show how this typology helps to operationalize the concept of serious games and better understand and choose their specific HR uses.

From serious gaming to full flight simulator: a proposal for a shared conceptual framework for training simulation trainers 从严肃的游戏到完整的飞行模拟器:一个用于训练模拟训练员的共享概念框架的建议

These days, almost 40% of flights in the French Army Light Aviation (FALA) are done on simulators. Military helicopter pilots train for the qualification instrument flight rules with Microsoft Flight Simulator ; they practise team building techniques thanks to the distributed simulation system EDITH and they revise their check-lists in a full flight simulator. Yet, the multiplicity of simulation technologies, being always changing, causes some negative effects. As a consequence, instructors only get the technical knowledge of the tools instead of really thinking about their teaching methods. Consequently, the purpose of our research as insider is twofold. First, we have planned to conceive a normative guide, intended for instructors of the FALA and, more generally, for all skateholders of simulation in order to improve communication within training, industrial and research projects about simulation. Then, our work provide new elements for a better understanding of the issues and the restrictions of the training through simulation.
