In the context of globalization, cultural exchange between the East and West is becoming increasingly frequent, and painting serves as a unique perspective for exploring cultural differences. In particular, flower-and-bird paintings and still-life paintings, as two major traditional painting genres, share similarities in selecting the subject and pursuing realism while maintaining their artistic characteristics, which both act as effective research models for cross-cultural comparative studies. This paper selects Li Song’s “Basket of Flowers”, a representative of Yuanti flower-and-bird paintingsy, and Caravaggio’s “Basket of Fruit”, an iconic one of the 17th-century Western classical still-life paintings. Through visual interpretation and cultural tracing, it analyzes the differences between the two in terms of color application, spatial organization, modelling techniques, and artistic spirit, to reveal the heterogeneity of floral subjects in Yuanti flower-and-bird paintings and Western classical still-life paintings, and to examine the different artistic values and humanistic spirits manifested in Chinese and Western paintings.

Continuation writing is a new type of writing task introduced in the Chinese college entrance examination reform. Text cohesion is essential for a well-written continuation. As a component of the Shaanxi dialect and even the northern dialect, the Wugong dialect has its unique regional characteristics and cultural value. As Wugong County is located in the west of central Shaanxi Province, between Xi’an City and Baoji City, this geographical position makes it a major transportation route between the two places, and also makes the dialect of this place subject to multicultural influences, forming its own unique linguistic characteristics. Through an in-depth study of the vocabulary of the Wugong dialect in Xianyang City, this paper aims to explore the internal differences of the dialect and the reasons for its formation. By analyzing the lexical features in the Wugong dialect and comparing them with Putonghua, the differences in pronunciation, lexical usage habits, syntactic structure and other aspects are revealed. These differences not only reflect the influence of geographical environment and historical background on the formation of the dialect, but also the role of social change and cultural exchange on the evolution of the language. The significance of studying the Wugong dialect is that it maintains and enriches the cultural diversity of Chinese dialects, and at the same time provides new perspectives and materials for understanding the Shaanxi dialect. In addition, the study of dialects helps preserve traditional culture, promotes the excavation and utilization of language resources, and promotes the development of linguistics and related disciplines. This research attempts to reconstruct an integrated learning model of academic English “writing + critical thinking”, which is better targeted at talent cultivation in Sino-foreign Joint Education, a prominent entity in China’s higher education. This model, under the guidance of six critical thinking skills from the Delphi Report, boasts 3 vital revisions in the teaching process of academic writing: critical reading, exemplar writing methodology, and a co-constructed updated version of academic English “writing + critical thinking” marking criteria. This could enhance critical thinking dispositions and skills of students in Sino-foreign Joint Education who, with the help of these skills, can ultimately develop into critical, globally literate and competitive talents. This research could benefit the teaching reform in Sino-foreign Joint Education and its Academic English courses.

The focus of this article is the impact of the Hebrew language with its literature, philosophy, biblical exegesis, and history on the sixteenth century anonymous author of The Life of Lasiloo de Termes. I assumed the task of investigating the Jewish cultural heritage embedded in this work, as my studies in Hebrew Language and Literature could contribute towards a fuller comprehension of this masterpiece. And indeed, in addition to linguistic and biblical associations, I have detected influences that appear inspired by the monumental works of medieval Jewish Spanish theologians and philosopher Crescas, Maimonides and Nahman ides in particular. The present paper attempts to interpret Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go in the framework of Foucault’s discipline power and investigates how those clones are transformed to be docile organ donors. It is found that Hailsham, Cottage, and recovery center are all disciplinary establishments in the shape of a Panopticon, where discipline power is exercised upon the clones constantly through three instruments: hierarchical observation, normalizing judgement, and examination. These subtle disciplinary elements fill every corner of their lives, and they are effectively observed, manipulated, and trained to behave “normally” as human society expects.
