A method of extracting fuzzy control rules from sample data is proposed in this paper, which is based on the FCM algorithm. The sample data is gathered in the process of structural vibration control. Firstly, the input and output spaces of the given sample data are divided into several suitable fuzzy regions using FCM algorithm. Secondly, in order to extract the fuzzy control rules automatically, a special network is designed based on the fuzzy region divisions. Finally, the extracted rules are applied to the structural vibration control and the validity of the rules is verified.

This study focuses on the development of a direct adaptive fuzzy-neural-network control (DAFNNC) for an n-link robot manipulator to achieve high-precision position tracking. In general, it is difficult to adopt a model-based design to achieve this control objective due to the uncertainties in practical applications, such as friction forces, external disturbances and parameter variations. In order to cope with this problem, a DAFNNC strategy is investigated without the requirement of prior system information. In this model-free control topology, a FNN controller is directly designed to imitate a predetermined model-based stabilizing control law, and then the stable control performance can be achieved by only using joint position information. The DAFNNC law and the adaptive tuning algorithms for FNN weights are established in the sense of Lyapunov stability analyses to ensure the stable control performance. Numerical simulations of a two-link robot manipulator actuated by DC servomotors are given to verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed methodology. In addition, the superiority of the proposed control scheme is indicated in comparison with proportional-differential control (PDC), fuzzy-model-based control (FMBC), T-S type fuzzy-neural-network control (T-FNNC), and robust-neural-fuzzy-network control (RNFNC) systems.

This paper describes a design effort in a smart tracking prototype, in an attempt to provide real-time, mobile and seamlessly indoor/outdoor location tracking for medical staff, patient or instruments in hospital environment, by integrating GPS (Global Position System) with UWB (Ultra Wideband). Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology can locate a person or asset to the accuracy of centimeters. While UWB technology is becoming popular for indoor position tracking, GPS technology has been around for some time for use in outdoor position tracking with an accuracy of 1 to 100 meters depending on the type of equipment used. It is envisaged that it is possible to combine GPS with UWB to give accurate position regardless of where the person or object is in indoor or outdoor. In view of the strong need for indoor-outdoor tracking in many environments such as hospitals, we looked into the possibility of integrating UWB and GPS to provide the target with seamless indoor-outdoor navigation capability and have developed a prototype. The system structure and experimental results will be illustrated in this paper. To our knowledge, no same system is reported yet.

This paper explores a numerical approach of a mixed H2 sensitivity optimization technique to re-design a robust controller for the Grumman F-14 aircraft, one of the IEEE Control Systems Society's benchmark control problems. By operating in the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) domain, we convert the H2 control problem into a constrained vector minimization problem in the l2-space. A two-stage solution approach is detailed and the controller is then constructed. The advantage of using the proposed method is that the l2-space solution can be analytically expressed and efficiently calculated via existing multichannel algorithms due to the partially block circular structure of the matrices involved in the DFT domain. The approximation can be made arbitrarily close to the original H2 control problem if the number of the DFT points is large. The simulation results are presented to demonstrate the proposed method.

This paper proposes a simple dynamic threshold based method to detect abrupt scene changes for the coding of a video sequence. The detected frames are then encoded as keyframes aiming at improving the coding efficiency of the video sequence. The proposed detection method first replies on the number of INTRA macroblocks that are available during encoding process. The dynamic threshold, which is updated at the frame level, not only utilizes the statistical properties of video sequence but also takes the resolution and QP value into consideration. The detection process is fast and robust. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves PSNR improvement.

For parallel inverters, the sinusoidal output ac voltages in the same-phase should be ensured. This paper presents a power weighted synchronous control method, which is suitable for parallel inverters of different power capabilities. The key concept of the proposed strategy is that the sinusoidal reference signal is decided by the common synchronous pulse signal, which is determined by the majority of the inverters, and the power weighting factor is taken into account. By doing so, the sinusoidal reference signal cannot be interrupted even though one of the modules is fault or dropout. Firstly, the operation principle is described by comparing the conventional method and the proposed method in this paper. Secondly, the hardware implementation is given. Then a detailed reliability failure analysis of synchronous regulation is presented, which shows that higher precision of the control system is obtained compared with the existing methods. At last, the experimental results prove that the control strategy can be well achieved by the designed circuit, and the synchronization of each module is realized.

In this paper, a new approach is proposed that increases the power efficiency in braking process for linear induction motor (LIM) drive. Based on the steady-state performance equations of the LIM, the establishment of equations to quantify the power loss in braking process can be deduced. In order to reduce the pump promotes voltage in regenerative braking and decrease the energy loss of linear metro system at the same time, a complex braking control algorithm based on regenerative braking and DC energy-consuming braking, combined with vector control strategy to drive the LIM, is proposed. This algorithm allows the pump promotes voltage in braking process of LIM drive to be restrained without braking resistor while keeping a good dynamic response. The simulated results presented show the validity of the proposed complex braking control method.

The paper develops a Multi-swarm particle swarm optimization (MPSO) to overcome the premature convergence problem. MPSO takes advantage of multiple sub-swarms with mixed search behavior to maintain the swarm diversity, and introduces cooperative mechanism to prompt the information exchange among sub-swarms. Moreover, MPSO adopts an adaptive reinitializing strategy guided by swarm diversity, which can contribute to the global convergence of the algorithm. Through the mixed local search behavior modes, the cooperative search and the reinitializing strategy guided by swarm diversity, MPSO can maintain appropriate diversity and keep the balance of local search and global search validly. The proposed MPSO was applied to some well-known benchmarks. The experimental results show MPSO is a robust global optimization technique for the complex multimodal functions.

In this paper, a new design for efficiency enhance switching-capacitor DC-DC voltage converter based on combination of traditional charge-transfer-switch charge pump and cross-coupled output stage. In order to get a high output power and pump-efficiency. By using multi-phase technique, its can increase both of pump-efficiency and power-efficiency. The propose multi-phase mixed-structure charge pump can operate at 1 MHz switching-frequency on the 0.1µF pump-capacitors. After the simulation by using HSPICE 0.35µm TSMC process, our work can converter the input low DC-voltage (VDD=1.5V) up near to 5 times of it (VOUT= 7.4688), the pump-efficiency can reaches to 99.58%, and the output power can be increased. The new proposed charge pump circuit is suitable for low-voltage applications in CMOS process because there is no threshold voltage drop in every stage even at the output stage. A great achievement has been obtained.

As the iterations are much, and the adjustment speed is slow, the improvements are made to the standard BP neural network algorithm. The momentum term of the weight adjustment rule is improved, make the weight adjustment speed more quicker and the weight adjustment process more smoother. The simulation of a concrete example shows that the iterations of the improved BP neural network algorithm can be calculated and compared. Finally, choosing a certain type of airplane as the controlled object, the improved BP neural network algorithm is used to design the control law for control command tracking, the simulation results show that the improved BP neural network algorithm can realize quicker convergence rate and better tracking accuracy.
