As an environmentally friendly refrigerant, CO2 is seen as one of the best fluids for a heat pump water heater application system. To investigate the relationships between optimum heat rejection pressure and other related operating parameters, an experimental research has been conducted for a transcritical CO2 heat pump water heater with two throttling valves. It proved that it is relatively reliable to control the heat rejection pressure of the CO2 system with two throttling valves; there exists an optimal heat rejection pressure, under which the system can reach the maximum heating coefficient of performance. Meanwhile, the research also reveals that the optimal heat rejection pressure chiefly depends on the outlet refrigerant temperature of the gas cooler, and in the next place, the evaporating temperature; on the other hand, the superheat degree of CO2 at the inlet of the compressor was found to have little to do with the optimum heat rejection pressure.

Distributed Generation source are widely used because of their remarkable advantages. Photovoltaic (PV) cells which produce DC voltage in their output belong to these sources and should be connected to the network through a power electronic interface. At the other hand, considering PV characteristics show that maximum power can be extracted at the optimal operating point which depends on the solar radiation as well as ambient temperature. So, a DC-DC converter is usually used between PV module and inverter to keep PV module at its optimal operating point. In this paper, PV module is connected to the DC side of STATCOM that leads to elimination of DC-DC converter. A modified current-based MPPT method and also, a developed STATCOM controller are introduced. Using this system, PV module always works in its optimal operating point and moreover, STATCOM does its expected tasks such as load voltage regulation and reactive power compensation. The components of proposed system with their function are explained well in the present paper and finally, a sample system is simulated by MATLAB/Simulink software to verify the advantages of proposed integrated system.

Cellular Manufacturing is one of the major applications of group technology. It requires an effective part clustering approach to execute preliminary manufacturing cell design. One of famous approaches is the cluster analysis method, which uses similarity coefficients and clustering methods to group similarity parts into part families. Clustering methods are divided into two categories: hierarchical and nonhierarchical methods. Hierarchical methods often suffer from chaining effects, while nonhierarchical methods need a predetermined cluster number. The research proposes a part clustering algorithm that is based on an artificial ant clustering model. The algorithm utilizes the characteristics of ants, congregation and randomness, to prevent grouping results from being fixed during clustering processes and to reduce the effects of noisy data.

Higher dv/dt and neutral point voltage floating often occur at the common three-level inverter, therefore, the modified modulate strategy is first studied for an induction motor system (IM) fed by a three-level inverter to implement direct torque control (DTC), and then the SIMULINK model is set up for the direct torque controlled induction motor system fed by the modified three-level inverter's modulate strategy. Simulation results show that the modified modulate strategy can not only overcome the shortage of neutral point voltage floating and higher dv/dt in the common three-level inverter, but also reduce the torque ripple, therefore, improve the dynamic performance of a direct torque controlled IM system markedly.

In this paper, image processing techniques are applied to the analysis of near-infrared videos. The goal is to detect human activities in the videos. For detecting human activities, we implement the Gaussian mixture modeling (GMM) to construct background model and to perform foreground detection. Additionally, we pay attention to commonly use sensing lighting equipments used in nighttime environment because of its illumination and shadowing phenomena. Accordingly, a two-mode GMM is proposed which separately constructs background GMM for different lighting conditions and switches GMM modes by event detection. In order to cope with excessive shadowing phenomenon, an efficient way of searching footholds by using scan-lines is proposed to remove human shadow. The proposed approach will provide reasonable bounding boxes information of human regions as detection results which will be very helpful for a nighttime surveillance system.

A soft switching active-clamp dual series-resonant converter is proposed in this paper. Two small transformers are used at the proposed topology to provide more load power. An active-clamp circuit is used to absorb the energy stored in the leakage inductor of transformer, to clamp voltage stresses across switches, and to realize the ZVS turn-on of switches in order to alleviate the switching losses. In order to remove the reverse-recovery problem on output diodes, the ZCS turn-off is realized by choosing the properly angle frequency on the secondary side. Analysis of mode operation, design considerations and experimental results of the proposed ZVZCS converter are described in detail. Finally, a 200W ZVZCS prototype treated under Vin=48V, Vo=200V is implemented to verify the practicability of the proposed converter.

In this paper, genetic algorithm is used to optimize the bus dispatching problem, which coordinates with the arrival of the passengers and improves service level by reducing the average passenger waiting time. The arrival distribution of the transfer passenger associates with the former transport modes in hub, and the discrete stochastic arrival distribution can be depicted by simulation. Firstly, the initial scheme should be chosen considering the bus operational schedule and search speed to seek an optimal solution. Then reasonable fitness function is build to select the fitter solution and ameliorated genetic operators—crossover and mutation are used to generate a second generation population of solution from those selected. Finally, the optimized schedule can be generated by these procedures and an example will be used to analyze the effectiveness of GAs.

This paper presents the use of camera, sonar sensor, and localization system on a wheeled mobile robot (WMR) for obstacle avoidance and parking control. The camera provides image of the surrounding. Distance between the WMR and object or obstacle can be obtained by image process and distance computation algorithm. Fuzzy system and genetic algorithm are integrated in the control scheme that can effectively drive the WMR without complicated mathematical equations. Sonar sensors detect safety distance for the WMR. The localization system provides coordinate position of the WMR. The WMR can perform obstacle avoidance and garage parking successfully.

Prediction, including intra prediction and inter prediction, is the most critical issue in H.264 decoding in terms of processing cycles and computation complexity. These two predictions demand a huge number of memory accesses and the total decoding cycles. In this paper, an efficient hardware architecture for real-time implementation of intra and inter predictions algorithm used in H.264 video coding standard is adopted. Compared with conventional architecture, the predict efficiency is enhanced. Under different prediction modes, our design is able to decode each macroblock (MB) within 500 cycles. The Verilog RTL of intra prediction is verified to work at 103 MHz and the inter prediction is verified to work at 81 MHz in a Xilinx II FPGA.

Exact estimation of battery state of charge (SOC) is important for a monitoring system, which is the basis of a energy management system(EMS) in electric vehicles. This paper presents a combined method for estimating the battery SOC for electric vehicles. Diagonal recurrent neural network (DRNN) and Kalman filter (KF) were used to estimate battery SOC respectively. Then the two methods were combined to apply alternately. The combined method synthetized the advantages of the neural network and the Kalman filter, so the it can not only estimate SOC accurately, but also reduce computation amount.
