Optimal load shedding planning with genetic algorithm 基于遗传算法的最优减载规划

This paper proposes a novel planning method using genetic algorithm (GA) to achieve minimization of load shedding. The frequency of a power system declines rapidly when generator outage occurs. The general solution is to install sufficient under-frequency relays to pull frequency back to normal range. In this study, a single machine infinite bus (SMIB) is utilized to simulate system load with genetic algorithm for estimating the optimal load shedding and shedding ratio in each stage. Simulated results indicate that the proposed GA-based method is both feasible and effective to facilitate optimal load shedding planning.

A simple space vector PWM scheme with neutral point balancing for three-level neutral point clamped inverter 一个简单的空间矢量PWM方案与中性点平衡三电平中性点箝位逆变器

Three-level neutral-point diode-clamped (NPC) multi-level inverter has been known as a superior topology of inverters. However, this topology method has an inherent problem of the neutral point potential variation. In this paper, a simple control scheme based on the unified voltage modulation technique has been proposed to balance the neutral-point voltage of three-level NPC inverter. The proposed scheme has been achieved by the calculated off-set voltage including the neutral point balancing factor. The neutral point fluctuation can be simply compensated without additional efforts and easily applied to the unified voltage modulation. The validity of the proposed scheme has been proven through the simulation and experiments results.

Lighting is responsible for the consumption of more than 2650 TWh of energy per year, corresponding to about 20% of the global electricity consumption. All the strategies and international policies pushing for the adoption of more efficient light sources are assuming a real important role for energy saving and for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

IEC61850 protocol - practical applications in industrial facilities IEC61850协议-在工业设施中的实际应用

A new standard, defining protocols has been evolving since 1997, called IEC61850. This standard enables several industrial benefits when using an Ethernet network, such as high speed device-to-device communications (i.e. peer-to-peer communications both digital and analog values) within cycles and between different vendors, high-speed processing of analog signals and a common database naming format and structure. This paper will review the fundamentals of IEC61850 protocol including network requirements. It will also discuss three practical applications of IEC61850 protocol such as zone interlocking protection scheme, main-tie-main bus transfer scheme and load shedding scheme. Bus zone interlocking scheme, is an efficient application of IEC61850 GOOSE messaging. In this scheme, the main relay will use definite time overcurrent element and the feeder relay will use time overcurrent element. The main relay selectively is allowed to trip or block depending on location of faults as identified from feeder relays. Main-Tie-Main bus transfer is a common application in industrial facilities. Voltage Main-Tie-Main bus transfer is a very common transfer scheme within industrial facilities. Main-tie-main automatic bus transfer can be applied using two protective relays and IEC61850 GOOSE messaging. A fast load shedding (FLS) scheme rapidly sheds load in a large industrial facility in response to loss of one or more incoming sources in order to avoid complete system collapse while maintaining supply to as much of the process as practical. Unlike undervoltage, underfrequency, or rate of frequency decay load shedding schemes, the fast load shedding scheme can initiate load shedding before the system frequency/voltage declines, which in many cases is essential for maintaining system stability. The fast load shed scheme uses IEC61850 GOOSE communications to collect load and incoming source power information from a very large number of end units at very high speed.

Effect of the voltage waveforms and power on hydrogen and hydrogen peroxide formation in water-spray gliding arc reactor 电压波形和功率对水雾滑动电弧反应器中氢和过氧化氢形成的影响

The present work deals with the formation of molecular hydrogen (H2) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) from liquid water sprayed into a non-thermal plasma formed by a gliding arc discharge. Previous work has demonstrated enhanced efficiency, as measured by specific energy yield, for the production of these species using a low power-pulsed plasma-gliding arc formed in a reactor with two divergent electrodes, water sprayed through a two way nozzle, and power generated by an ignition coil driven by a pulse generator. In the present work, H2 in the gas phase and H2O2 in the liquid water are determined for different values of the power injected into the reactor, as well for different waveforms (pulsed and alternating current AC), with Ar carrier. A comparison of the pulsed and AC waveforms of the voltage, for the same power injected into plasma (6 W), on the efficiency of the H2 and H2O2 production was made.

A novel control strategy for stand-alone operation of a wind dominated RAPS system 一种新的风控RAPS系统单机运行控制策略

This paper presents a novel control strategy for a high penetrated wind based hybrid Remote Area Power Supply (RAPS) system. The proposed RAPS system consists of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) based variable speed wind turbine and a battery energy storage system with a dump load for DC bus voltage control and a diesel generator as a back-up supply. An integrated control approach based on active and reactive power balance of the proposed RAPS system has been proposed and developed with a view to regulate the voltage and frequency within an acceptable bandwidth. The proposed integrated control algorithm is implemented by developing controller for the individual system components in the RAPS system including wind energy conversion system, diesel generator, battery storage and dump load while coordinating their responses to achieve optimal operation. The optimised operation for the proposed RAPS system is realised by operating the wind turbine generator on its maximum power extraction mode while restricting the operation of diesel generating system at low-load conditions. In addition to the detailed model, which associated with non-linear high order characteristic of each system components, a linearlised model of the RAPS system is presented with a view to compare the active power sharing among the system components. The suitability of the proposed control strategy has been tested under varying system conditions including fluctuating wind and variable load.

This paper presents a microprocessor based controller for High Temperature Proton Exchange Membrane (HTPEM) fuel cells. The controller manages start-up, control, protection, shut-down, and monitoring functions. This portable unit controls HTPEM fuel cell components to ensure secure and reliable operation in both normal and transient operation modes. The proposed controller monitors critical fuel cell parameters such as cell voltages, air/hydrogen inlet temperatures, air/hydrogen inlet pressures, stack temperature, and stack current. The controller software has several concurrent control loop tasks, which send proper commands to the fuel cell system. The hardware consists of a development microchip board and a novel interface I/O board including a LCD and a keyboard.

This paper presents a high performance interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drive system based on a hybrid intelligent speed controller. Closed loop vector control technique is applied to model the drive system and the hybrid speed controller is designed as a combination of a PI controller with fuzzy inference system. The speed controller is designed in such a way that satisfactory speed and torque responses can be attained in both steady state and dynamic conditions. A flux controller is also incorporated so that both torque and flux of the motor can be controlled while maintaining current and voltage constraints. Thus the proposed drive widens the operating speed limits for the motor and enables the use of the reluctance torque. To investigate the performances in both transient and steady state conditions, the results of the proposed IPMSM drive system are compared with those of the conventional PI controller based drive in simulation. The proposed IPMSM drive is also implemented in real-time using DSP board DS1104 for a laboratory 5 HP motor. Both simulation and experimental results demonstrate the better responses in terms of torque and speed for the proposed drive over a wide speed range.

Introducing surecontact ®: A design concept to improve energy efficiency in copper electrowinning processes 介绍surecontact®:一种提高铜电积过程能源效率的设计理念

To improve energy efficiency in copper Electrowinning different technologies have been developed. These include electrode positioning capping boards and 3D grids, electrode spacers, and, segmented intercell bars. This paper introduces a design concept to avoid electrode open circuits and reduce contact resistances. The design is based on a female teeth shape for the contacts on the intercell bar. This leads to improved electrode alignment, reduced contact resistances, easier contact cleaning and ensured electrical contact for the electrodes. It results in lower operational temperature for the electrodes, reduced plant housekeeping, increased lifespan for capping boards and higher rate of grade A copper production. Comparative results presented should be a useful guideline for any type of intercell bar. Improvements in production levels and energy efficiency should reach 2% and 3% respectively. A 3-D finite-element based analysis and industrial measurements are used to verify.

Hardware/software implementation of PI/PD-like fuzzy controller for high performance motor drives 用于高性能电机驱动的PI/ pd类模糊控制器的硬件/软件实现

PI/PD-like fuzzy controller is proposed for control of high performance motor drives. The system utilizes two fuzzy logic (FL) structures to generate a control signal. The first FL mimics PD control and generates an explicit output. The second FL acts in parallel to mimic PI control and generates an incremental output which adds to a previous PI control signal to create an updated PI control signal. The fuzzy PI- and PD-type controllers are combined to cope with different operating conditions. Saturation protection exists before passing the control to the motor drive. A filter creates a reduced noise feedback error signal, and a difference creates a delta error signal between the present filtered error and that of the previous time step. These two inputs feed both FL structures. The rules for both the PI and PD FL structures are given with explanation of the physical meaning. The PI/PD-like fuzzy controller is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink and loaded onto a dSPACE DSP. A suite of tests examines robust control performance under various operating conditions. Experimental results have shown that the fuzzy PI- and PD-Type controllers robustly respond to a wide range of operating conditions.
